Just waiting on the edit with Dumb Stupids face plastered on the other guy now :v:
while I was talking to a few people yesterday, I was dinking around in free flight and decided to try and drift my ship towards a target with some spin on it. I started here-

and nudged myself toward that landing pad at 10m/s, tapped E to roll just slightly, and hit 6 to cut my engines. I was only expecting to MAYBE smack the pad in the end
In the process, I discovered the giant station is very slowly rotating, and I almost hit one of those large panels at the end of the armatures, then nearly scraped past the armature after that, and again just kinda slipped under the giant panel thing on the next armature.

a bit over 6 minutes later, my nose has slowly aimed out so I'm more 'flopping' than 'rolling', but I could see that I was perfectly in line with the pads. Due to my rotation it felt like I was going to land upside down, but I was at least excited to reach the target. As I approached my tilt was JUST enough that, when the pad's gravity hit, I fell and smacked my wing and tilted down onto the pad. After scraping up the bottom of the ship, my landing gear finally activated and propped me gently into place

in other news, it's pretty fun to toy with the landing gear like that (especially now that the avenger doesn't go lowrider). Hover your ship like this with the tail just over the pad-

then cut the engines. You'll tip forward, slam into the pad, and the gear popping out is just fun to watch
(also how do you screenshot in 1.3 I can't seem to get it to work, need to alt-tab out of it in windowed mode then use my screencap program)

That's the kind of thing I've always wanted to see in a space game. So glad it's finally happening.

It's really impressive how well that local physics grid is working. It'll be really fun to mess around when it's released to the main client.
Retaliator looks good flying around.

on my quest to understand what the star citizen speech could improve upon I stumbled upon a blog that labels the face rigging under rigporn.

Goddamn the star map is cool.

And check out Min. This is all the system is: A rogue gas giant pulling 4 moons along through space - one of the moons even has core thermal activity and a small group of settlers living on it.
Man, the Sabre looks so cool, and it's finally the sort of heavy fighter I can get without needing to worry about finding a copilot
but damn even with the fact I'm upgrading my existing package that's a lot of money
I'd love to support this game more but I honestly am so bad at justifying the expense to myself, even though I can afford it

You can always get it in-game later. Unless you're completely comfortable with spending that money, don't do it.

Personally I think that acquiring the stuff I want later on is more satisfying. Feels more like it belongs to me than if I just threw a bunch of money at the screen.

Where's the RCS thrusters? Does it have magic invisible strafing thrusters?
Where's the RCS thrusters? Does it have magic invisible strafing thrusters?
the ship is:
> 2-4x the size of most of the ships we can fly in AC so the thrusters may be hard to spot when the dude is zoomed out so far
> not fully scripted for AC at all right now, the main engines barely produce a glow effect right now cool off

Logically for the ship to handle like that the thrusters should be either far more numerous or far more massive than those seen on smaller craft, which should be visible unless it has some hardcore LODs. :v:
I don't see them on any of the concept art or renders (unless the vents are thrusters) so my guess is that it's still using magic invisible thrusters until they rig them up, or just decide that bigships like it and the Constellation don't need 'em.
I'd be curious to see if the giant VTOL thrusters mounted all over it will swivel to their extents similar to the cutlass. Hopefully by the time that happens they move heavy and with more direct intent, rather than the cut's super sensitive whirly engines

worse comes to worse we can technobabble about the ships being so big that their gravity generators can manipulate the ship's smaller motions as efficiently as a huge array of thrusters ever could

Great. The ball turret moves at a snail's pace, the shields now protect against absolutely nothing, maneuverability and armor takes a hit and now it's power anemic as well. At this point I'd be more likely to win a fight flying an Aurora. "Space superiority fighter" my ass.
This is the downside to listening too much to the community.

curious to know where the devs are that they're listening to integral feedback on energy systems, I rarely if ever see dev commentary on ships in general until they're totally confident that they're working on it right that instant, and come out to the forum to say "hey we're totally overhauling this! Post feedback in the next 20 minutes before we close this thread to suggestions!"
also I'm not sure we're at a state where it's really viable to do power control and weapons group setups because the junk resets every time you die and is a general hassle

I'm referring more to the large portion of the community that is constantly pushing for the Hornet/Super Hornet to be nerfed to basically nothing, no matter how many nerfs it's already had. It's all but useless now.
If the hornet nerfs keep up I might just switch to the Sabre, pretty ridiculous.
switch to the sabre anyway
aegis master race
If they nerf it then they change s42 gameplay.
If they nerf it then they change s42 gameplay.
I thought that the SQ42 Hornets are the super-duty military-grade Hornets with OP as shit equipment, while the ones we can use in the multiplayer are stripped-down, re-engineered civilian versions.
If they nerf it then they change s42 gameplay.
All the stuff we've seen of S42 has them using the Gladius instead.
gladius is the trainer ship we start with, but it's to be expected we move up through bigger ships as we progress and require mission-specific things. Definitely flying a retaliator at one point, what with the hallways being designed as a mini FPS map, with a big name designer (alien isolation dude) behind it.

Woah. Does he work on other aspects of the game?

not going to comment on the general balance of the hornet because I can't download a FUCKING 30GB DOWNLOAD right now, but this is a good thing imo
it really needs to feel like there's limited power to be drained, like back in 0.8 where you could kill your thrusters by shooting too much. atm power is completely irrelevant in typical gameplay

Considering everything else they've done to the Hornet thus far, it needed any advantage it could get. Its power plant was the very last one. Now it's the most expensive piece of trash in my hangar.
