Considering everything else they've done to the Hornet thus far, it needed any advantage it could get. Its power plant was the very last one. Now it's the most expensive piece of trash in my hangar.
6 out of the top 10 of battle royale atm are hornets, that sounds to me like it's starting to become balanced

It shouldn't even be competing against the other low level ships that aren't dedicated fighters.
I'll refrain judgement until I actually have something to play though because a 30gb patch isn't really possible.
Reduced power so it's something you have to manage to avoid burning out seems okay though. All this will probably go out the window anyway later on when you can upgrade and tune all your hardware.
I find a it a bit funny that some people call SC fans as a cult, yet every time the game is in an article, they just have to say something.
Makes you wonder who is the obsessive people are.
I thought that the SQ42 Hornets are the super-duty military-grade Hornets with OP as shit equipment, while the ones we can use in the multiplayer are stripped-down, re-engineered civilian versions.
super hornet is supposed to be close to a military one.
Also the vanduul what about rebalancing them?

Both sides. Star Citizen's definitely pretty cult-like on some areas and honestly I've met a lot of people critical about the game that are also early backers that see every new update as, "feature creep".

Yea, but plenty of people that claim no interest in the game will jump at every chance to say the same thing each time.
Even Elix with his wall posts, isn't that obsessive.

I'm in the same boat there, since I haven't flown the hornet since the free-flight from a while ago
but this is my constant problem with perception of the gameworld/balance from archangel and others, just because the hornet is a dedicated combat ship it shouldn't automatically win fights!
the other ships in ac aren't 'low level ships'. the hornet may be one of the most expensive single-seaters, but this is the tier of ships we are comparing to. the question is about, if I'm on my own, what ship do I take?
firstly, the hornet is multipurpose itself. it can carry cargo or do electronic warfare, and even in combat configuration it's useful for things in the PU outside of 'warzone' gameplay, such as pirating and bounty hunting. additionally, nearly every job you find yourself in the PU will involve combat in some way, at least any job that isn't boring as fuck. whether you're salvaging, trading, mining etc - pirates and vanduul will be a threat, so most ships should be viable in combat - and that means standing up to the ships that pirates are going to come at you with (pure combat ships)
take this as an example. why would I use the avenger for bounty hunting? it's been stated that you can strap up a prisoner and put him in the super hornet's RIO seat, and the SH is a straight upgrade from the avenger in combat
why would I use the 300i for dangerous courier work (or anything at all), when the hornet's box can hold more cargo while still having significantly more firepower and double the durability?
tl;dr I just wish the common perception wasn't that the hornet should be way better because it's 'space superiority' and more expensive
[editline]edit[/editline]
The Hornet is a space superiority fighter. Why should it be on par with non-fighter spaceships?
because having one ship that's better than everything else is fucking retarded for gameplay??

I disagree. I'm going to use Elite: Dangerous as an example here. In E:D Ships can be outfitted to fulfil a specific role. Some ships are designed for combat and don't have a whole lot of other utility, but can still be outfitted to do other stuff. That outfitting decreases its combat utility - You have to use power and module space that you could be using for weapons or defensive upgrades for other stuff instead.
A Super Hornet with a ball turret, a canard turret, and what is essentially a full weapon loadout should be very, very, very good at the one thing it's supposed to be good at - kicking the shit out of other ships. Instead, the full combat loadout is garbage, medicore at best - And other loadouts are going to be even worse.
A Hornet with an ECM package, a cargo container, or any other mount sacrifices firepower and power draw to allow itself to fulfil other roles. That means it lowers its combat capability if you want to do anything at all with it other than fight. And that's the way it should be.
The Super Hornet with a combat loadout should be the baddest thing in the valley, period. That's what it's ostensibly designed to do. It's not 'fucking retarded for gameplay' if a ship designed first and foremost to be a heavy fighter is good at fighting.
Let's not forget that the Hornet, Super Hornet, etc, won't be able to operate in nulsec without a refuelling escort - They're designed as short-range fighters that need a refueling outpost.

Then there's just stuff like this that I can't decipher.
Sure are butthurt about a game that could've had a lot more money spent elsewhere to actual games that need it then here. But ok, rant about a game that needs more clarification about why its so bad.
First sentence seems to imply there's some ruling body that decides where all the crowdfunding goes and this guy is complaining Star Citizen is getting too much. "games that need it then here." what does that even mean?
Second sentence seems to be saying that he doesn't understand people who mindlessly shit upon the game.
Where does this guy stand?

ChloeBlackSythe can't seem to grasp that since Star Citizen is crowdfunded, it makes so much money because more people want the game to be made than whatever other games he or she would prefer the money go to. It also implies that they're not willing to spend money backing those games themselves - They'd rather everyone else did instead.

"Stop funding things I don't like!"
The complaints have been collected and forwarded to the Crowdfunding Budget Control Board for review in the next 6-9 months. If the Board believes the request has merit, up to 2% of the crowdfunding budget will be allocated to some other game with a less-competent marketing strategy.
Crowdfunding Socialism, can you feel it?
I'd be curious to see if the giant VTOL thrusters mounted all over it will swivel to their extents similar to the cutlass. Hopefully by the time that happens they move heavy and with more direct intent, rather than the cut's super sensitive whirly engines

worse comes to worse we can technobabble about the ships being so big that their gravity generators can manipulate the ship's smaller motions as efficiently as a huge array of thrusters ever could
update on the conversation regarding thrusters, noticed this in PTU

"Hermes" thrusters (mouse is down toward cockpit on one of them, it's all those long rectangles), the big VTOLs things are "Hercules", so I know I'm not accidentally hovering over those

they're working on a new one, but it has been a while since they mentioned it. Here is an old screenshot of it
Screenshot or mockup?
Looks like a mock up to me. It's using a screenshot of the ancient 300i model to represent the ship, and the whole thing looks too polished.
I thought there was another mock up recently that showed how ship fitting would work using the Mobiglas, which as I understand is supposed to mostly replace the crappy holotable anyway.

Yeah, this thing.

Isn't Mobiglas intended to entirely replace the holographic imagery in-game, since holograms have been retconned?

from the look of that picture right above your post, the person is physically walking around the ship to select components. Cool concept, but maybe a little too inefficient a use of someone's time

Well you need something to do while cargo is physically loaded by NPCs :s:
fair enough, though I'd still prefer the ability to just page through a list of options while looking at the ship as a whole. Maybe the whole idea of components having relevant compartments is enough to make it easier to do this from the inside or whatever, but right now on the avenger (since it's the example there), the shield generator is a box hidden up between the two top engine scoops (it's awful with clipping too) and it makes me wonder what you'd be doing to reach components on larger ships. Ladder truck? Walking around the walkways and looking at it from a slight distance in the hangar?
my one critique of mobiglas thus far is that turning it on slightly dims your entire screen to add contrast to the holograms. Why not dynamically dim behind relevant portions instead of the entire thing

Imagine equipping a javelin like that :v:
if you could afford a javelin you'd probably be able to hire a guy just to fly you around to all of the components :v:

I'd be much happier if there was the option to do that, but there was also a menu that could be used as well.
Although CIG has a very well documented history of disregarding functionality, practicality, and good design for what they think is looks, I doubt you'll have to walk around your ship to modify it with the Mobiglas.

Putting the Retaliator in space doesn't really show how big those fucking torpedoes are
[editline]22nd October 2015[/editline]
poor scavanger
[editline]22nd October 2015[/editline]
Also it looks like they've changed how the bomb bay doors open and OMG that guy should put landing gear up before firing the torpedoes jesus imagine the !FUN! that could cause if you were unlucky
Ill be honest, I was kind of hoping for a bigger explosion from the torpedo. That looked like a normal missile detonating really.
That's probably not the final effect tho
I'm still really annoyed at how bad the missile physics and guidance are, but at least they seem to have cool trails now. You can't have interesting or fun missile play as long as those two are still around.
the rear bays have always looked like they could be hinged in the center, and the landing gear is bugged with the rest of the ship. I think the bigger issue is the missile cleared the bottom of the ship, but curved up way too fast. I'd like to see some tests where they nose down further and see if the torp actually detonates on their own ship

look at the numbers
that ship was 4 km away, the model won't even render at that distance. For the size of the blast it was probably decent looking if you were dogfighting with it at the time
mmmm buddy

why does noone use the missile cam?
or is it broken?
The Retaliator is so beautiful, should I get an Retaliator or an Constellation Andromeda?
I think the Andromeda is more useful outside of combat but I'm not sure, since you can use the retaliator for more then just blowing stuff up.
