1.1. I've heard estimates of mid march-april. So, factor in standard CIG time....october?
You can swap it for a Mustang Alpha (and back) for free, you know.
Yeah, I know. I figured I'd rather start PU with something more versatile and stick with the Aurora in Arena Commander so I can master it's flight mechanics. Ideally I'll upgrade to something better than both for combat relatively quickly.

Have a little faith, they've gotten much better with their deadlines since a couple of years ago. Certainly better than Rockstar North is now, anyway.

The thing I'm most worried about in the future of Star Citizen's development is double precision and instance sizes. These are complex ships, and double precision is known to put extremely heavy strain on hardware. I hope they know what they're doing and they won't have to scale their promises back to the point of mediocrity.
According to the roster, I'm the only one with a Reclaimer. Heh. I AM THE SALVAGE KING.
According to the roster, I'm the only one with a Reclaimer. Is that actually accurate?
In the org? Possible!
[editline]26th February 2015[/editline]
Wait, what roster is this? I want to update my info.

But you're apparently gonna need to PM krail9 about it, as he said earlier:

Thanks for that. I'll shoot him a tell.
So, on today's RtV, it was mentioned that the next concept sale is going to be the Vanguard (formerly the Bulldog), the deep-space twin-engined fighter. The Hull C concept would've been next, but they're developing out the whole line and they want to put the concepts all up at once.
The Hull A is going to be a bit larger than an Aurora and is the equivalent of a delivery truck. This scales upwards to the Hull D being akin to a supertanker-scale hauling beast. There could also be Hull Es, but they'd be gigantic and likely not player-flyable. In Ben's words, they'd be "something special".
I'm hoping that the Hull A and B are reasonably affordable. I'd love to score an LTI hauler where I can fly it solo with NPCs without being too huge and fat a target, but not if it means having to melt a bunch for it. For me, pretty much any ship over $150 can be earned in-game, and over $75 it better be something unique.

uh
CIG's terrible with naming and choosing the same name for multiple things, so maybe I'll turn out to be right after all. At least I picked a ship with a V in it. The Vanguard sale isn't coming next week or the week after, but it's coming.
Also, there's no PTU or minor patch this weekend/week, because they're in crunch mode for 1.1.
On one hand, the Hull "x" line is the only other ship that I want, so a concept sale would be nice, but on the other hand, I kinda hope there isn't LTI, solely because that's literally the only reason why I buy the concept sale ships. >_< What can I say? I love permanent safety nets.
Our wallets hull's collapsing in on itself, I just can't push her any further!
So I finally was brave enough to hop into PVP for the first time since version 0.9. To my surprise, in all of the six matches I've played so far, five of which had 6+ combatants, I ended up as MVP by a HUGE margin. I wonder how much of that means that I'm a good pilot and how much is thanks to my Super Hornet.

sorry to say this but... yeah, it's the SH :v:
balance is really out of whack atm, I mean the hornet should definitely be the best dogfighter, but not to this degree
6 gimbaled weapons? it's a bit ridiculous

Agreed, I've gone into PvP for a while now, the balance is ridicilously off the charts. An Aurora LN (which I have) has NO chance against hornets. Even with every single missile/direct hits with the lasers, it just doesn't work out. Hopefully they fix it soon.
I was mostly going up against other hornets in the PVP, though...
Part of the problem is that right now the Hornet can mount four size 2 weapons on the ball and canard, and two size 3 guns on the wings. Those size 3 guns? Something you'd be more likely to find on a Connie. Three hits will drop a shield on another hornet, and the rest will turn the ship to slag in seconds.
The six gimballed weapons were the whole reason I bought the Hornet in the first place. I hope they find a way to balance it without removing the gimbals.
One thing I noticed the Hornet has a very hard time killing is faster ships - Like the 300 series and the M50. The lag pip reticle goes practically off screen if one of those is flying laterally to you.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but with two tiny fixed guns and a shitty top speed the Aurora is pretty trash. Grab a Mustang and slap a set of four Badgers on (Or two badgers and two tarantula cannons), and you'll find the playing field MUCH leveled. My mustang alpha can take them on, which the Aurora just isn't designed to do. Plus, it's as fast as the Hornet and far more agile.

Is it worth sacrificing all the cargo for that as a loner? I'm not too educated on the game, all I really know is the gameplay mechanics. I just thought, "Hey, this game looks cool, lets just go for a combat role without thinking about it :v:"
(edit) Should I just wait for the game to come out and then buy better weapons for the Aurora? I mean, I genuinely doubt it's a smart idea. Sure, it's smaller, and faster, but is it really worth it?

I think the Mustang has a decent bit of cargo space as well. Besides, until the Persistent Universe launches, you can trade in your Aurora for a mustang and trade it back for free.
[editline]27th February 2015[/editline]
And honestly, the best policy is to wait until REC (rental equipment credits or whatever) is implemented.
That way you can earn credits to try equipment by playing Arena Commander. Save your money.

Also, I'm looking at the store, apparently there's no way to go from LN to an Alpha.
EDIT:
I just found Alpha to LN, but not the other way around. Besides, it costs 5 euro's as well. No free stuff.
The Alpha has a cargo sled, and the Beta's interior cabin is superior to the Aurora cabin. Here's your upgrade path between Auroras and Mustangs.

I assumed you had a MR, but no free swaps for the LN. The CL is the option that doesn't make sense unless the stats change to something more compelling than an MR with a bigger cargo box attached stock.
It has a jump scanner but no jump drive, what :v:
It has a jump scanner but no jump drive, what :v:
Where'd you find that? Do you mean the Mustang or the Aurora?
Look at the Aurora CL's stats, it doesn't make sense.
Also, that brings up a good lesson: during development stats will change and won't be updated on the website very often. Never buy on stats, buy on role. The stats currently list the Mustang Omega as a two-seater and I can confirm that my Omega has no room or need for a second seat.
The equipment system is going to have a major overhaul, though, and I imagine ship loadouts will get updated and rejiggered then.

The Mustang Alpha has space for a freight container, but it's listed as 0 freight units, because it doesn't come with one. Keep in mind that the Alpha is the only variant with room for container as the rest use the space for missiles/engine/living space.
Hey, Elix, picked winners from your thread yet?
Check this stuff out.

Starting to look like the Cutlass commercial may not have been THAT much of a dramatization after all.
No, I'm dumb and gay and lazy; the day I was going to spend an hour or two going through all the entries began with Jace taking off the mask and so that shit happened all day, and then real life's done its thing. But it's on my plate for today because I need to get that shit done.
And, yeah, the Cutlass's thrust vectoring is on another level now that they've gotten a bunch of the handling issues fixed.
This makes me even more excited for the Xi'An Scout and its all-gymbaled-thrusters-all-the-time approach to flying.
Agreed, the Scout's going to be some next-level shit.

you can go back and fourth between the alpha and aurora for free. Friend did it just the other day. Look harder.

He had the Aurora LN. Different model.

the gimbaled weapons will always be too strong, every other ship has to contend with a mix of gimbaled and fixed weapons, which actually tones back the power of multiple guns because they are much harder to use, eg:
hornet - 6 guns (6 gimbal)
gladius - 3 guns (1 gimbal)
325a - 3 guns (1 gimbal)
avenger - 3 guns (1 gimbal)
mustang D - 4 guns (2 gimbal)
gladiator - 4 guns (2 gimbal)
aurora LN - 4 guns (0 gimbal)
these are all ships that are focused on COMBAT, yet they don't even come close to the hornet in terms of firepower.
you have to go all the way up to the cutlass to even get close (5 guns, 3 gimbal), a large multicrew ship with significantly worse handling and speed, and even then only 3 guns are gimballed
possible nerfs for the hornet:
-massive powerplant nerf: only way i can forsee the hornet keeping 6 guns, is if it can only fire say 4 small ones or two large ones at a time. trying to fire more should be like the old 0.8 days where it starts draining your shield and disabling thrusters
-only 4 guns: this would be the easiest solution, just completely remove the canard turret, or make it incompatible with the ball turret (so you can use canard turret + cargo box as an alternative)
-less gimballed guns: making the wing guns fixed, so bringing your largest guns to bare is a lot harder
with any of these the hornet is still going to be king of the sandbox, but hopefully it will stop SH's from melting lesser ships in a matter of seconds
