alt-look while flying is dangerous, the newly introduced snap-to-dashboard-screen function is way too sensitive on some ships (especially the P52 and connie) and you end up locked to a screen with zero control over your ship's movement til you get out of it also regarding the door bug, you CAN crouch-jump through the windows from the staircase if every door is locked up. Usually if I encounter it it's just the one door at the base of the stairs that's frozen while others work on the plus side, look what came in from china [t]http://i.imgur.com/gey7KCV.png[/t]
Without the custom user.cfg, I get unplayable framerate hitching that locks up my entire computer for several seconds every 15-20 seconds. With the custom user.cfg, my framerate never goes above what feels like 20 which is borderline unplayable to me, but at least it runs. Supposedly, optimizing the framerate is what CIG is working on next now that the game doesn't crash every 2 minutes. They changed who gets what loaner ships and I'm annoyed by that because I've gone from a Hornet to a Constellation. I have no interest in flying the Constellation as to me it's just a huge ass target, but ironically it's more maneuverable and turns quicker than the Hornet which, really shouldn't be the case for a ship that's like 3 times bigger. Some more random screenshots from last night. There is no acceptable reason that a ship as small as the Hornet, which has no living space and is barely larger than a modern fighter jet, should be as unwieldy as it is, especially since it's designed to be a superiority fighter.

It's really silly to me how maneuverable the Constellation is when it's supposed to have people inside it.
At 9pm EST the Game Awards will be happening, and Sandi tweeted that CR and a special guest will be there to release a new trailer. The trailer is proooobably going to be a 2.0 trailer, but it could also be SQ42-related. The guest is unknown. However, consider the following coincidences: - Mark Hamill will be there due to being nominated for his performance as the Joker - Palmer Lucky has a big announcement prepared and it isn't a starting of CV1 preorders I'm pretty sure the Connie's maneuverability is not final; this is the first time it's been made properly flyable for players. Think of the first time a player climbed into a Hornet compared to how it flies now (and its flight model isn't finished now either).

Sadly fucking everything else flies like it's got a rocket strapped to a paper plane and the Hornet is a complete sitting duck. Fuck that shit.
Been out of the loop for 7 months, can i get a summary of what's happened and what the current state of the game is?
In short: They are currently in testing for the 'public test universe 2.0', basically the sandbox multiplayer, albeit currently contained to a single solar system. They've been periodically sending waves of invites based on your citizen number; currently up to 110,000. It's a barely playable buggy mess right now, so I'd hold off on downloading it for a while if you've been invited. They showed off the FPS module, Star Marine, a while back. Plays like Arma with a dash of Red Orchestra (aiming).
Been out of the loop for 7 months, can i get a summary of what's happened and what the current state of the game is?
- Arena Commander's still the same - You can now visit ArcCorp Area 18 and it looks way better than it did at CitizenCon 2014; there is now a buggy demolition derby arena in the under-construction (in-game, not literally dev WIP) zone - The latest live patch, 1.3, is running on the "real" codebase, with the 64bit conversion complete and local physics grids mostly working (in prep for 2.0 where they are working) - Alpha 2.0, aka the baby PU, with multicrew ships and working local grids and Quantum Drive around the gas giant Crusader and its various stations and other points of interest, is on the PTU (test server) for ~166,000 backers, 16k randos and then the first 150k Citizens by number. Scroll back the last 6 pages or so for plenty of video and screenshots. 2.0 is on PTU because it's been unstable as fuck; most of the instability's been kind of fixed and the effort now is fixing the terrible performance in the builds. It's not ready for live release to all 800,000+ backers yet, but that day's coming closer and closer with every patch the PTU gets. 2.0 adds the Connie Andromeda and Tali as flyable multicrew ships and augments the Cutlass Black into being 'truly' a multicrew ship instead of the nailed-to-the-cockpit-seat experience it's been so far. arch, how often do you fly your SH in PVP? Also, today's AtV apparently has some Freelancer stuff.

One, I think it's going to be a loooong time before Star Citizen sees VR support. Partially because the game does so much crazy stuff with its camera that it's going to be very difficult to hack that apart for VR support, and partially because the game runs like crap on pretty much everything on a single screen. It's going to be very difficult to render the game twice and still run at 90+ FPS. The ancient "but will it run Crysis" joke is eventually going to be replaced by "will it run Star Citizen." The other, is that I'm thinking the Stanton system might end up being the most complex and dense system in the game because it's the testing bed for how everything works. It's the New York system of Star Citizen, to make a Freelancer analogy. New York was very obviously the first system they built because there's so much going on in it and it very obviously had the most time spent. It's probably a good thing considering it's the system everybody in Freelancer started out in and therefore spent a lot of time in. It was also the demo system, which meant you had a hell of a lot to explore in just the demo of the game.

Most of the time I get one or two-shotted by players using the Tarantula cannon meta, because my ship can no longer change directions fast enough to dodge them. If I'm lucky enough to get into a match that does not have a player with the broken weapon meta, then I do fairly well most of the time, but still get chewed up by more agile ships, and their missiles. There is virtually no way to dodge missiles well in a Hornet.
Anyone else eager to see the new trailer that will be shown on the Game Awards tonight? http://thegameawards.com/watch-live/
4.5 hours til showtime, plus whatever timeframe between start and SC. (also hype for oculus's announcement)

We've got a build right now that will go into testing, and as has been the case with this 2.0 PTU test, we'll know from QA's internal testing whether or not it's good to go to PTU late in the day USA time. To be ready to publish 2.0 to Live, we want to nail down all of the below (please note this is a partial list of what we’ll fix): • The previously mentioned framerate and game server bottleneck issues. • Multiple GIM disconnects plus assorted dedicated game server and client crashes. • Party system improvements. • Error message overlay does not go away. • Client flickering when SLI is enabled. • Chat UI is too small. • Destroying small ships with a physics grid will sometimes get the character stuck in an unplayable state on respawning. • Damage states in multiplayer games are not consistently working. • Players in the seat or turret of a multicrew ship when it is destroyed can get stuck in their bedrooms on respawning. • Various fixes for spawn points, including wrong locations and being stuck after dying in multicrew turret. • Implementing EMP distortion damage (currently has no discernable effect). • When transitioning from zero g to gravity zones from above, the player character will fall – sometimes taking damage, or suffering lost functionality. • Players can’t use automated landing in Andromeda. • Main thrusters missing on 350R. • Main menu fixes, particularly infinite load screen for Arena Commander. • Top speeds fluctuating in IFCS/SCM modes. • Repairing ships do not reset the ship’s mass. This 2.0 PTU test has been an absolute success because of your involvement and assistance in finding these issues.
I have to say I greatly admire the Dev team's insane pace of fixing and improving stuff. They really seem like they have their shit together and solve problems best they can. I can only imagine how hard alpha-stage development must be when changing even stupid little things can break a whole bunch of others (If programming's taught me anything though that's the norm).

It's the New York system of Star Citizen, to make a Freelancer analogy. New York was very obviously the first system they built because there's so much going on in it and it very obviously had the most time spent.
I'd be inclined to disagree with it being a major home system (nor the most complex), though it does host both ArcCorp and Microtech's home planets. As far as the starmap is concerned (and as far as I can spot things manually), it's definitely the richest- Stanton is the only system at 100% on the economy scale, with Ellis and its racing driven economy coming in at second-ish but still only like, 65-70%, then Sol at 60ish%. Everything else is 50 or below. However, given it has two major space corps, those riches don't mean the area is the best for your average player. A few corps being worth a lot isn't exactly a surprise, and two of them in one place kind of skews the scale hard compared to anything without any corps "The most time spent" too, isn't exactly the best metric to claim at the moment- besides the AC maps, it's the only PU location they've worked on we can experience right now, but we've also seen a planetary landing video from Nyx, though I wonder if that'll be involved in the campaign. The diversity of what's being packed in this one system is probably a result of just wanting to test small, it'd make sense that they'll introduce more of the game's functions at different locations around Stanton, and at some point allow us to do major jumps from planet to planet, planetary landing at key locations, travel and dock at a sataball arena, prove their visual pallette swapping between Arccorp (wet, hot, industrial environment with lots of construction [development jokes aside] and overall utilitarian) and Microtech (ice/snow everywhere, clean and efficient, medical facility feel) is good by the masses, and so on. The natural progression has been to go from isolated instances (planetside, AC maps) to exploring a planet's immediate orbit, to system, then maybe a local group of systems at the same time they start digging into trading/transport mechanics I'm hoping that, like in the instance of Ellis clearly being attractive to racers and those wanting to produce performance parts, there will be areas that are complex for certain players' needs. I hope there won't be too many super-polarizing locations where it becomes a hard meta that X ship pilots should always be around systems/planets X, Y and Z because it's 100% the best money to make and other places are too boring/infrequent with the jobs they want. I'm sure the system will overall maintain a nice dynamic of hotspots being useful and interesting, but not worth gluing yourself to them for long periods
Worth noting for the record that Stanton is pretty much entirely corporate-owned; each of the four main planets is owned by a gigacorp: MicroTech, Crusader Industries, ArcCorp, and Hurston Dynamics. However, that wealth's held entirely by the corporations, so Stanton's indicator really isn't reliable. I'm looking forward to Crusader the most, floating platforms in the breathable and habitable upper layers of the gas giant. It may not be economical to haul in/out of Stanton with anything less than my Hull B and probably a Hull C, though, so I may not choose Crusader as my starting location. I would assume that anyone wanting to do science should first-thing at post-wipe launch haul ass to, and find the Jump Point coordinates for (and then sneak past the UEE if it's still on lockdown) Tamsa, the star system with a black hole in the center, in case they can manage to get some exclusivity on science results on the info market. Min might also provide for some good science opportunities, being a rogue planet as a "system"; or it may be one of the most science-barren systems since you wouldn't expect it to also have six asteroid belts like an ordinary star system.

Quick and stupid question here: I got the game around a week ago, but because the game is rather large and updating every once and a while, I never bothered to download it. If I do decide to download it, what can I currently do as of today? Is it just that wave survival thing and that large hanger to walk around in? It's been a while since I last followed the game's development, so I'm unfamiliar with the current short term road-map.
