It was not TOO long ago when, after a game was built, finalized and shipped, the source would be deleted when the time came to do the next project because had drive space was at a premium and big enough hard-drives were fukken expensive. Either that or games back then get lost because the companies change hads a few times, assets are bought and sold and things get lost. [editline]9th March 2015[/editline]
Fighting inside ships is risky, too, as you might shoot something important or breach the hull.
If I could REALLY customize my ship all the Hallways would be %90 bulkheads, they are open normally and if anyone gets on board I crush them using the bulkheads.
The thing about ArmA is that it looks natural from a third person perspective. There is absolutely no way to make an FPS that shares a first and third person view model that is NOT clunky, because that's how humans move. There's still a huge - and I mean HUGE - following for the ArmA series because it's considered one of the highest fidelity infantry simulations in the world. If that's what Chris Roberts is going for, I'm behind him one hundred percent. STALKER is an arcade game by comparison. Besides, Chris isn't looking to ArmA for controls. He's drawing inspiration from ArmA 3 for animations, the controls themselves will be much simplified by comparison.
It's not just the animations, it's the physics. The player movement physics looks like it'll be even more clumsy and floaty than the movement in the hangars, and the hipfire aiming seems to have some inertia to it but in a badly implemented way causing it to be jittery. I'll wait for final judgement after a few updates after the FPS release - because, after all, the initial Arena Commander controls were fucking awful, but it's great fun now - but as is, it looks highly mediocre. [editline]9th March 2015[/editline] If they can get movement, cover, and aiming as awesome as Red Orchestra 2, it'll be great.
I wouldn't say IXM's is rubbish, per se... just that it completely lacks personality. But nothing was quite as awful as 3Dingo's model. [editline]9th March 2015[/editline] They've actually revised the design quite a bit and given it a bit of a tail now, and also redesigned the weird folding ramp so it slides out instead. Check the thread on the RSI forums! [t]http://i.imgur.com/AID5f5f.jpg[/t]
Even though I like IXM's more, I do want to see that in the PU I think people don't want to acknowledge is that different tastes dose not mean hierarchical in quality (expect with things like 3dingo) and at the moment the ship fits, but not everyone liking it is also to a benefit to having variety in the game. It's like driving on the highway and seeing sexy cars and ugly cars to you, one person's ugliness is another's sexy, however if everything was as sexy then everything would be dull (In the context of cars).
That sounds amazing. Is it still playable in any form?
Nah, it wen't down the end of 2011 I believe, and while emulations of the game exist they aren't very robust in their content, and it really shows its age (came out in 2003 I believe). I have so many amazing memories from the game before the CU and NGE, and just about given up on ever finding another game that can provide that same level of immersion and openness, but Star Citizen looks like the closest that's come to reviving such a long forgotten concept.

My main problem with the Scimitar is how bad the exterior looks. It's bland, textures look lacklustre, the thrusters are huge and blocky... I guess I could say that it simply didn't fit with the art style for any other ship manufacturer in the game, and least of all Anvil. Hell, 3Dingo's pile of junk looked more like an Anvil Aerospace ship than the Scimitar does.
Nah, it wen't down the end of 2011 I believe, and while emulations of the game exist they aren't very robust in their content, and it really shows its age (came out in 2003 I believe). I know a lot of people don't like the game because of the changes they made to it with the CU and NGE updates, but it was still an amazing game in pretty much every other way after that happened. The combat system was changed a lot and that seems to be the only thing people seem to think matters, they say it's a bad game because of the changes to that even though there was so much more to the game. They seem to ignore all the other amazing things that weren't changed/'ruined' and only got better, like the space combat and housing system. The housing system where you could place a house pretty much anywhere and then place almost any item in the game inside it, move them around and rotate them was amazing and it's the thing i miss the most, really. This was my house, every item other than the silver-ish black metal walls/floor was something i'd placed, moved and rotated to how i wanted it: I never managed to finish it which is why there are some things floating. Having no item collision in houses meant you could be very, very creative and use things as something they weren't meant to be, like how in that video i've used bases for large statues (the yellow stone) to make extra walls all around the house. Most players didn't do things like that and would just drop normal furniture items (chairs, tables, paintings etc) all over the place instead of coming up with their own creative uses for things, but you could pretty much do whatever you wanted, so i tried to make mine feel more like a house instead of just a collection of furniture in a large mostly-empty space (to the point where i had a 'purpose' for each section). This was what the house looked like without any items in: If Star Citizen allows anything like that with Hangar customization, it will be great. I really want to be able to decorate ships and Hangars to be my own, rather than being identical to everyone elses except for a few items in certain places. Obviously i don't except we'll be able to be as creative as SWG allowed with items in house/ships (as objects had no collision, you can place them over/inside each other) but just being able to decorate in a way that doesn't involve pre-determined places for objects would be great.

You can't stop on a dime when running IRL, and it's even worse when you're weighed down by combat gear. A little of that, but not too much, is A-okay. It makes the shooter more tactical and encourages economy of movement. What I hope they don't do is what ArmA 2's aiming was like, with negative mouse acceleration. If they model themselves after ArmA 3, good; that fixed the issue.

On the long term, they want to give the community the ability to configure their hangars the way they want.
From the BHVR panel at IDGA, via INN's liveblog. That's pretty much a direct paraphrase of what the BHVR guy said. "The way they want." What that means, who knows. However, immediately prior to that, and not mentioned in the liveblog, is that they're hoping that, as they get social working,
...say, five months from now, we'll be able to do mission debrief for your next mission with your friend in your hangar.
[editline]9th March 2015[/editline] And the devs have mentioned Rainbow Six more than Arma in relation to the FPS being a more tactical, slower-paced affair, IIRC.
The important thing about Anvil Aerospace ships is their lines. They're not as blocky as the IXM scimitar at all, even if they do use hard angles. Look at these: [t]http://i.imgur.com/t3mBJ1Y.jpg[/t] [t]http://jolstatic.fr/www/captures/1895/2/86132.jpg[/t] There's a little bit of a 'star' motif going on, Sort of a Gundam-esque feel. [t]http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/gundam/images/6/64/Gundam_X_Flash_System.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20130420173745[/t] Even the Carrack has its angles and spiky bits: [t]http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/starcitizen/images/6/67/Knipsel_4.JPG/revision/latest?cb=20141129032612[/t] The IXM Anvil Aerospace Scimitar doesn't. It's just a very blocky ship, and it doesn't seem like an Anvil ship at all. [t]http://i.imgur.com/sr10lQb.png[/t] It would have fit in Wing Commander or Battlestar Galactica, but Star Citizen? Naaah. And as much as I hate 3Dingo's ship, it's Anvil through and through, I have to admit. [t]http://i62.tinypic.com/2n741w9.jpg[/t] It still sucks.
[t]https://i.imgur.com/wbMX7IC.jpg[/t] God I love alpha bugs. Frustrating to experience, but unbelievably hilarious to read about and watch. Less-potato PAX East zero-g fps demo footage: From a different guy in the Reddit thread for this vid,
I played the FPS today at the Logitech booth, And meet Chris. Currently you have to hold the space bar to grab with your hands. Then while holding onto the surface with the space bar held you use WASD to move around. I only got to play about `5minutes because the line started to get long. I cannot wait to get more time playing it. The best part was changing direction mid fight by pulling on the cubes with the gun.
Hm. Not sure how I feel about the grapple gun. It's a nice mechanic, but I hope it'll be replaced by pressure suit jetpacks. The push/pull mechanic seems pretty cool.
The grapple gun is for the Ender's Game-style gamemode, although I imagine you'd be able to get it fitted to a real gun in the PU eventually. You'll also have EVA jets (but not always) and push-pull. The battle arena is about a particular kind of zero-g motion, so having EVA jets would make it too easy. You're relying on tactical decisions on how to move to avoid getting hit, and you don't have complete freedom of movement all the time. On the other hand, the PAX Australia zero-g fps demo clearly showed the marines and outlaws jetpacking around. The battle sphere is an in-universe sport, so arbitrary limitations like that make sense.

So I goofed on Friday and accidentally melted my Aurora LX when I was trying to melt my Aurora MR. I submitted a support ticket.
Hi there, No worries, I can help you with that! I've restored the LX to your account and removed $30 from your store credit balance. If you need any other assistance, just let me know. :) Best, Alexis
That was easy. She even added back my anniversary sale 24-month insurance. These guys rule.
Look me in the eye and tell me you DON'T want to use that thing on the back of a passing spaceship and go space jet skiing.
I... I can't.
Look me in the eye and tell me you DON'T want to use that thing on the back of a passing spaceship and go space jet skiing.
We should make this a sport, and have the ship you are skiing off of flying like wild through an asteroid field. Whoever makes it to the finish with their ski-er still attached wins.
Man, I love CiG, but they're bad at video games.
We should make this a sport, and have the ship you are skiing off of flying like wild through an asteroid field. Whoever makes it to the finish with their ski-er still attached wins.
Unsanctioned Murray Cup event, hello! Rodeo mode. :v:

But those are pretty minor gripes :P
Look me in the eye and tell me you DON'T want to use that thing on the back of a passing spaceship and go space jet skiing.
Using the grappling hook in Tribes: Vengeance was fucking awesome because you could grapple onto enemy fighter pods and then murder it to death with your exploding blue frisbee launcher. It's an interesting system, and I really hope it's a planet we can (eventually) fly around on the surface. Atmospheric dogfights would be fun, especially playing chicken around 1km-high waves.
You know, the Spinfusor was such a fun weapon to use. Imagine if, not an explosive disk launcher per se but some kind of "kinetic impact disk" that shunts things around in zero-g with a satisfying THHWANG as it's fired and a BOOOSH as it strikes.
This week's schedule: My pants Also, the Helios lore post's a good one. And I didn't ask for it off, I'm getting fired aren't I D=[/sp], guess I know what I'm doing. Anyone up for some free-flight fuckery [sp]AC 1.1 will be out by then... right, RIGHT?!?[/sp]
So after mostly turning a blind eye to this game I finally really looked into it today. I've spent hours watching the ship commercials and reading about all of the plans for development, I guess I'm going to board the hype train with everybody else now. :v: Come April when I have the money I'm definitely going to pick up a starter package.
Just remember that buying ships can turn into an addiction; remember that you can always get all the ships in the game. :v: If you have any questions, feel free to ask. If the answer isn't "we don't know yet, it hasn't been coded yet", we probably know the answer. And, 1.1 could drop by Friday, although they just might hold the patch back (while keeping it running on the PTU for people who want to play with the sexy new Gladius damage states) until the PAX East free-flight week is over so that they don't expose tons of non-backers with the joy of a CIG patch day. On the other hand, the PAX East week seems to end at midnight Friday morning, so a Friday patch drop during CIG LA business hours would make sense. Also, during the all-ships free-fly week, FPCorp should arrange private matches where we all fly the same kind of ship. It'd be interesting to see how the K:Ds looked if everyone was in, say, Aurora LNs only.

Having my own ship for personal stuff sounds fine but I get giddy at the thought of being in a crew with my friends and working together for missions.
Have you seen this? (Featuring my favourite SC music so far at the beginning; you'll also hear it in the Constellation commercial when the Connie comes out of jump.)

beta is overrated, more money for exactly the same stats except 0 cargo space not having cargo is extremely limiting for a starter ship, you're basically stuck with either sub-par exploration (no scanner suites or anything) or sub-par combat (small guns, no missiles)
