Damn that's a fine ass cabin.
It annoys me how the 300i - a luxury grand tourer - has such a shitty interior compared to the cheapo babby fighter.
beta is overrated, more money for exactly the same stats except 0 cargo space
not having cargo is extremely limiting for a starter ship, you're basically stuck with either sub-par exploration (no scanner suites or anything) or sub-par combat (small guns, no missiles)
I still haven't figured out what the Beta is for from a gameplay perspective. I think it looks great, but you're throwing away your cargo room for something that has no function.

exactly
they need to give it some kind of gimmick, maybe reduced weight (better top speed and fuel economy) and a sensor suite/jump scanner
that way it can focus on long range exploration, scanning shit and selling the location of stuff it can't deal with eg salvage

3xx series interiors are getting a complete rework, but said rework is on the back burner.
I really like the Beta's cabin, but I'm hoping there's a gameplay reason for it. If it's strictly roleplay, my Beta's turning into a Delta.
I like how CIG is doing free weekends on ships, and now the big one where all AC ready ships are available to be played. You don't necessarily have to spend money to try ships that are locked by a paywall. So kudos CIG.
While I agree with that, I'd much rather the 1.1 patch dropped earlier this week than later. Ah well.

A reminder of how quickly things have improved.

Lol, the jab at EA/origin integrated with the lore.

A hate watching these presentation videos, not because of the content but because the kinds of people who go to these must be the worst fucking people.
It's like every loudmouth cunt on Earth just gets thrown into one room and told to spout as many fucking memes as they think they can handle.

It's what happens when they're boozed up and the hype train's already been rolling for hours with all the other developer content they've seen.
I'm really excited for the Connie touch-up, I love the role of the ship but find the current interior a bit off-putting.

Ugh, that's putting it mildly. It's like it was assembled from parts found at a junkyard and then every surface was smeared with shit.
The connie rework is the only thing that may convince me to keep mine at this point. Otherwise I may upgrade to a Retaliator.

every time they release a new ship the old ones are going to look like shit
I just know SOOO many people are going to melt their connies when the tali goes on sale, and I bet most of them will flop right back once it gets reworked
retaliator is kind of niche too, you need a lot of people to make it effective and when set up for cargo it will only hold a fraction of what the connie can

The prospect of doing torpedo runs on ships makes the retaliator sound tempting, but the lack of general purpose use, especially if I don't have other people available, has made me stick with my Constellation.

No, that's not why. I mean, have you seen the interior of a Constellation lately? The textures are in their 'old and worn' PBR state. Everything's grimy and rusted and overall shitty-looking. It's depressing to have that thing in my hangar. Yeah, I get they'll fix it *eventually*, but right now walking around in your hangar is half the game, and what would otherwise be my favorite ship is not exactly inspiring any pride of ownership in me at the moment. It's been this way since the Connie variants came out last year.
Right now, the Connie's geometry and textures look terrible, the Retaliator looks great, and I still don't know how good the reworked Connie is going to be.

well people were jizzing their pants over it when they reworked the layout with the new variants, that wasn't that long ago

They liked the change at first. IF the Tali is made available permanently until the game's release and not put on sale only for a limited time (Limited sales are such bullshit) I might hold on to my Connie. You do have a point, it's worth holding on to because of the multirole capabilities.
I hope they balance the game's personal and ship maintenance activities (food, water, rest, refuelling and using the toilet) so that even a short range ship like the Hornet can make a few jumps between systems and spend a few hours in flight before the pilot needs to make a rest stop to gas up and buy a snack/drink. The benefit to "exploration" oriented ships, of course, is that their extended fuel capacity and living amenities generally let one stay out in the black far longer, making them more suitable for excursions into unknown systems where relief may not be available.
I realize this is a silly question to ask in the thread about the game but I've been casually following this for a bit and I'm super interested, should I pick this up right now? Or should I wait until later.
Also I'm looking at ships(?) and I'm not sure which would be the best to pick up.

If you're looking at ship starter packages, I'd suggest the Mustang. It's a better dogfighter than the Aurora, and still allows you to carry cargo, so it'll serve you well when starting off in the 'Verse. If you're looking to buy any additional ships that are more expensive than that one, the Aegis Dynamics avenger (Which can also be bought with a game package) is relatively cheap, comes with a bed (which I think doubles as an escape pod) and good cargo space, holding cells for prisoners (If you're interested in bounty hunting) and is a capable dogfighter as well.
As for whether to buy the game now or wait... I'll leave that up to you. There's a lot of content that hasn't yet been completed, but a lot of that content is coming this year.
Now is a good time to get in if you want; updates go out every 2-3 weeks, the game is still in heavy development and at the exact moment there's nothing but a dogfighting simulator, but fps and planetside/social are dropping this month and next.
Buy in as long as you're okay with the idea of buying in about two years from launch, like buying in during Minecraft alpha and getting the alpha/beta development progression. If that's not worth your money, wait.
As for ships, there is no "best" ship for all situations. It comes down to what your budget is and what roles you want to be capable of.
I would suggest one of the two packages in the "fly now" page linked by that big button on the front. From either ship, you can always pay the difference in cost between it and the ship you want if you decide to upgrade. For example, if you decided to get an Aurora MR and decided you wanted a more combat-oriented Aurora, $10 will convert the ship into an Aurora LN, and everything else in your package remains the same.
Upgrades are possible for any flyable ship, but (with a few specific exceptions) upgrades must always go to a more expensive ship. So, if you start low, you have tons of upgrade flexibility later. There's also a way of exchanging the package for store credit so you can buy a different package, and this can be used to "reset" your upgrading, but don't worry about it for now.
This is a good time to get in with a basic package, actually, because starting Friday there will be a test drive week where you can fly ALL of the flyable ships, so you'll have a good idea on what ship you want from then.
Note that the dogfighting module prioritizes combat, but the full game will be so much more than that; Auroras are disadvantaged in combat but have superior capabilities in other aspects (like cargo transport) over dedicated fighters. There will be additional scenarios that are more focused on cargo and non-dogfighting over time.
I tried launching the game but it freezes in the middle of loading up. I already redownloaded and reinstalled it.
Halp!

By freezes, do you mean it just takes a long time to load, or does it actually cork out and die?
Two steps: How much RAM do you have, and what's your graphics driver version? (xx.xx for AMD, xxx.xx for Nvidia, don't need the complete version numbers, just the short ones)

There's no rush to getting into Star Citizen. The game isn't all that fun to play right now if that's what you're hoping to get out of it, but it is interesting to boot up once in a while to see the progress. It's all very rough around the edges, making it pretty aggravating to play if you treat it like a released game, even if the core gameplay and concepts are pretty cool. There's really no rush though, and the longer you put off buying the game the more you'll be impressed and the more fun you'll have.
If you want to buy in now, get one of the starter ships. Mustang for combat, Aurora for trading.
Do keep in mind that if you wait longer to buy in, the game, when it comes out, will be more expensive.
Well I'm trying to go for the Mustang pack, but I think I fucked up the account creation since I haven't received a confirmation email.

Scratch that I JUST got it, it just took a little bit.
Eric 'wingman' peterson started a new studio with some RSI people to reboot decent.

Huh, well what do you know.
Descent is one of my favorite games of all time, and I've been wondering when Interplay would either do something with the license, or let somebody do something with the license. They're sitting on a few licenses with really dedicated fanbases, namely Descent and Freespace, but have done nothing aside from just repackage and re-release on Steam.
I'm not a big fan of the ship designs they have there, mostly because the original Pyro GX was such an iconic design, but color me intrigued. A Descent game shouldn't be too difficult to put together so I'll be keeping my eye on it.

Though, I'm a bit disappointed with the super heavy multiplayer focus. I know multiplayer was one of the biggest draws of the original game, but I loved the singleplayer levels and memorable enemy robot design. It was a ton of fun and where my fondest memories of the game come from.
Quick question here since I haven't gotten any answers on this in the SC website, if you upgrade from a package to another ship, do you get the same amount of insurance? I'm switching from my LN to the Avenger and I haven't gotten ly 1k UEC either. I really wanna buy myself a fish.
