i'm getting more of a p61 vibe from it than anything else
What role does the Vanguard have? Bomber?
Long-range strike fighter.
$250? Fuck, I was considering melting my SH for it if I liked it.
Considering it isn't going to be a hull-limited ship, I'd suggest everyone wait until the stats are published before making decisions about the Vanguard. Also, an Aurora LX with four Badgers and Rattlers ought to be more than enough fun against Vanduul. Anyone up for more spacepunching tonight? Yes this means you, if you're around, Jono. Same time as before, 6pm PST/9pm EST, for me.
She's pretty, but sure as hell not costs-as-much-as-a-retaliator pretty. That said, I'm starting to thing Aegis is my preferred manufacturer.

That is, if there's still room of course.
Usually takes us another 15 minutes to get organized and into a lobby anyway, so we can leave room for you unless somehow more than 8 people show up. Rate this post artistic if you intend on showing up, again to save the thread from spammy roll call. Also, on today's RtV, it was mentioned that the current rate of earning REC is probably too high and it'll be scaled back some soon, so enjoy it while it lasts. I say we go for it. Be easy to earn 30k REC by the end of the week, if they don't tweak the rate before then (1.1a is impending).

I'm pretty sure it isn't hull-limited -- which is to say, there will be (say) 50 in the store and that's it, Javelin-style. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure the concept sale is only lasting the traditional 10 days (two weekends). The MISC Reliant will have an LTI concept sale, and they're going to be fast-tracking it through hangar and flight readiness because they want to add it to the Fly Now! landing page to give people three options (one of which is two-seater xi'an tech hotness). Once they get it to hangar sale, it'll be permanently added to the store.

All of them sound more interesting, save maybe the Anvil hurricane.
drake space-bike was best
It's the two seats and the Xi'An tech. I personally voted for the Reliant because of the two seats. They're looking at fps-pass-only packages for people who just want to play the shooty and don't care about ships as much. Those people could be perfect crew. CR likes the Drake Dragonfly, and said "don't count out" the other starter ship concepts. The voting was to decide which ships were priority in the ship pipeline. I imagine we'll see the Dragonfly, but possibly not before the PU goes live and the pledge store shutters.
Freelancer made space interesting by having a scaled down world with comic book proportions and celestial objects. People love to give it crap for that, but that's also what made the game work so well. It has an unmatched atmosphere for an open world space sim. Each star system had a distinct personality with its own planets, fields, and "landmarks." Everything was on a relateable scale. You could, simply by looking around, know exactly where you were in a system because "that nebula is over there, that asteroid field is over there, this planet is right here, and the sun is right there." You could see it all with the naked eye and flying into and out of these things was a regular and common thing to do. None of it made physical sense but I didn't care, it felt great! I don't know what Star Citizen will do. It will have a much larger scale than Freelancer for sure, but the question is by how much, and how will its celestial objects look and be arranged? It's part of why I liked traveling around so much and exploring in Freelancer. There was so much interesting scenery to look at while flying around. If they can pull off the same atmosphere that Freelancer did, then that would be sweet, but it's something that gets increasingly difficult with a larger scale.
Nonissue for some people. [editline]26th March 2015[/editline]
[vid]http://a.pomf.se/bgzjqb.webm[/vid]
Which manufacturer is this by? I actually like how it looks. [editline]26th March 2015[/editline] Oh, Aegis ofc.
Here's the Vanguard. [t]http://i.imgur.com/VfT3YDh.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/5XQHGE3.png[/t] The only thing I don't really like is the way those rear fins are attached. They look really flimsy.
wings should not unfold in space, would need more force to roll.
My meeting was an hour longer than expected, anyone on?
My meeting was an hour longer than expected, anyone on?
I can always get on. What does FP usually do anyway? You use Teamspeak 3, right?
My meeting was an hour longer than expected, anyone on?
Sorry man, We all dispersed a bit ago. Brits needing sleep and all that. Elix was planning on doing a few over the weekend though
Sorry man, We all dispersed a bit ago. Brits needing sleep and all that. Elix was planning on doing a few over the weekend though
That works.
So in other words, the Super Hornet is a P39 Airacobra and the Vanguard is a P38 Lightning. Heck, the Vanguard even looks like a P38 :v:
The Hornet isn't really like the P-39. Mostly, because the P-39 was a piece of shit. A more apt comparison to the Vanguard would be the BF-110.

Freelancer's comically small scale and unrealistic planets was really one of the worst things about an otherwise good game because of how it completely trashed immersion. The fact that stuff was packed so closely together was exactly what a space sim shouldn't do, in my opinion. What good is the feeling of exploration and covering vast distances if you've got planets two kilometers across and about thirty kilometers from each other? I could walk that distance daily.
That new MISC starter sounds fun and it'll be my first pledge back into the game since selling my Constellation.
We do disagree on this, but we've had this discussion before. What good is the feeling of exploration and covering vast distances if you've got planets two kilometers across and about thirty kilometers from each other? I could walk that distance daily.
For the record, planets were usually 60-130km away from each other depending on the system size and layout. The largest systems like New Berlin were about 200km across, while the very smallest systems were more like 50km across. Those really small systems rarely had planets in them and were typically fields, nebula, or weird stuff like neutron stars, instead. Another thing that is really important about those distances is the time that it took to cross those distances and how it played into the gameplay. It felt like covering large distances, especially in systems without trade lanes to guide you and most traffic along a secure path. It took time and effort to travel off the beaten path and explore. With the way trade lanes worked, it really did feel like you were going off and suddenly you were alone flying somewhere most people don't. It's like driving up and down a highway for years, but then one day deciding to go off the highway, off the road, and into a forest. I'm not saying Star Citizen needs trade lanes, just talking about why I think Freelancer worked so well. [sp]Freelancer is like my favorite game ever so I'm super biased.[/sp]
Freelancer was what got me into games like this in the first place, and trade lanes did make it more convenient to get from one place to another, but was also a great way to get jumped by a large group of Pirates, at least in my experiences. I don't think Star Citizen is going to have much trouble in the way of a PU or making it feel big.
That new MISC starter sounds fun and it'll be my first pledge back into the game since selling my Constellation.
There's going to be a concept LTI sale too. I'd get rid of my mustang and aurora for one no question judging by what it sounds like. Not to mention if it was a cheap LTI (talking sub 80-100) it would crash the used ship market.
Will Leverett posting on MP stability status, 45min ago on Reddit:
Wanted to update you that we discovered a major culprit in our multiplayer matchmaking system: the party service module. As a test, we're recommending that players avoid using the party system to join matches with friend for this weekend. The party system is a part of the larger party service. We've got a lot of investigation to do in order to fix this; it isn't work that will happen over the weekend. When the party service module is overloaded, it doesn't speak to the other modules nor back to the client, and as it is a required component of keeping multiplayer online (currently all multiplayer traffic flows at some point through it), it's not a module that we can simply disable. It touches several different systems, all of which will also need to be investigated. As we continue our investigations, we'll know more about the scope of work that will be required to address this and when we can institute a fix. For now, the below previous update holds true, and throughout this weekend, multiplayer AC will be very unstable and unpredictable throughout the weekend.
So, looks like significant organized events are kind of a waste of time this weekend, but it does work. I guess we could experiment with everyone going into public VS/race match search and all searching for the same exact type of match at the same time in hopes of being sorted together, but this becomes more complex for 4v4 PVP modes or free flight. Best I can suggest is ad-hoc attempts at shit with whoever's online and interested at the time; best way to gauge this is by popping into the TS3 server (prfn.se; FP SC channel) or poking people you know. I'm going to be around tonight, just to see how broken the party system is, because it might not be too bad or it might be a repeat of last night where the server just flatly hated me for several hours but would match everyone else together. If nobody's around, I'll probably just idle in the TS while playing with random pubs in either my angry Aurora (4x S2 Badgers, 4x Taskforce I missiles) or as a Hornet with 2x S2 Badgers and any of the S1 laser/neutron guns (I got them all on REC to try them out) on a REC'd nose turret. Reminder to anyone with a base Hornet that feels gimped with it without the nose turret, it's in the REC store for 2k and takes size 1 guns. It just might be broken, as someone (I think Jono) got it and the gimbal locked and wouldn't move. Still, more guns, and I'm used to fixed guns from the Aurora so it's a bug that doesn't affect me too much. If the MISC Reliant is priced at around $40, I'll probably buy 3 if I can afford them at concept; not so much as LTI upgrade fodder (though I'd probably use one to get a LTI Hornet or 3xx or something, if I had the funds) but as gifts to people as packages. Especially because it's the perfect newbie starter because you, the backer with presumable AC experience, can ride shotgun with them while they get their feet wet in the PU. At the very least I want one LTI'd Reliant for myself to keep (and not upgrade), everything else comes down to if I can afford to be stupid with ship purchases when the concept sale happens.

Worth noting, Gladius free fly week just started
that could also be part of the function if you think about it, stabilization so you don't spin ridiculously fast when trying to make more controlled maneuvers also I've been away for a good while, and had to re-install due to some weird patches. How's Oculus support looking these days
1.1 required a full reinstall because of the major changes it brings. Unofficially, VR kinda-works in SC if you mod it in, but it doesn't have head-tracking as an independent camera target, it basically maps the Rift to the mouse, last I saw, and that makes for bad VR experience as well as gameplay (but all-gimbal mounts would work great if you didn't mind a bit of neck strain--look at things to make them die!). However, this was a dude who modded it in and was using his DK2, and I don't know if he's gotten it to work properly since then or if it's totally broken again in the recent updates or what. It was rough enough to prove that the Rift works in Star Citizen but it's not playable-working yet. VR is currently not officially supported, because they updated Cryengine internally and that broke all their VR stuff, so they just decided to wait until Crytek implemented VR in Cryengine, because then they'll get automatic Oculus support for free with minimal custom coding to have the Rift's head-look mapped to looking around from the player model's eyes. This was slated for Cryengine 3.7, which is the version CIG would like to standardize on for PU launch ("the last version" in CR's words) so they have a fixed target to hack to pieces without worrying about having to merge their massive modded codebase into a new engine trunk again. However, Crytek won't be including the VR shit in the initial release of 3.7:
The date should hopefully be sooner than a lot of people think. And no, Segmented Worlds and new VR features are not in 3.7. For the latter, our VR team (the one that created the Dinosaur Island demo for GDC) is still working on it.

That doesn't automatically mean we throw every single WIP tech into the one branch and cross our fingers. As David Bowman mentioned in one of the GDC interviews, we will be pushing the VR updates to the main branch once we're happy with the implementation. We have many WIP streams that are children of the "main" stream, so the path to integration is now simpler and closer than it ever has been. The "integrate everything" notion was meant to be taken generally, not explicitly, but it still holds true in the sense that all main projects are working under the one main stream now and that our teams are more integrated and interconnected than they've ever been. Hopefully we'll have more info to share on 3.7 soon and as soon as we can, you'll find it in the news :)
Deeper in the forum thread (page 3, linked in the Reddit post),
Its been stated several times already that the first initial release 3.7.0 wont have VR support just yet, its coming in a later build (so 3.7.x). This was stated in a video at GDC and on the forums several times.
Lavizh is in the "News Posters" usergroup, not sure what that is but it's got a flair similar to Crytek community staff so I'm guessing a trusted community member or community mod kind of thing. Lavizh on page 5, responding to someone trolling about Cryengine support for Rift a year or so back (likely what SC was using in the hangar):
...that build had Oculus SDK v0.1.5 implemented and was a semi working build. Not fully implemented. The log file from that build clearly said : Oculus SDK v0.1.5. They also included HMD cvars with that build.

Yeah seems some expect miracles and god like features with 3.7. Its a cleanup release with a new sound system called SDL Mixer, this is an awesome solution by Crytek for those with less advanced audio needs with CRYENGINE. It's also alot easier to use. Then there is the Character Tool. Which looks very nice. i also expect 3.7 will remove deprecated features which is no longer used. ... Hopefully Super Sampling is working in the launcher now, along with SMAA 4x. Last there is a huge release notes with tons of fixes and optimizations added to the engine. My two cents.
There, I've read the thread for you, that is everything worth reading. Literally everything. Basically, CIG's going to be leaving their engine freeze wait until 3.7.x when Crytek gets VR polished and other necessities are rolled in. Also, fuck yeah, Gladius, I'm sure I'll be taking that for a few pubbie runs (like EVERYONE ELSE).
Just RECed a gladius, now I have 2 gladius yay! Sigh..
