oh, and dai's back fell off

Possibly the most FPCorp ships safely landed on one pad yet. (Me=Delta, Dai=325a, Capgun=315p)

Turns out you can toggle self-destruct and then get up...but not fast enough to get out.

Capgun gets all the ladies with his moves
And then we played a co-op VS and all went great until dai's computer exploded again around wave 7 or 8 and he had no control. His ship for like 5 waves before a Vanduul went and killed it. I recorded some of it (until OBS crashed after 9 minutes) and will edit footage eventually.
Alright, how do I get in on this fun and shenanigans?
[editline]7th April 2015[/editline]
Oh I'm smart.
I need to figure out a better way to record because I'm stylin all over these Hornets and Mustangs in Vanduul Swarm Coop in my shitty Aurora and want to make a video of it. I ended last game with 60k points and the second place guy (Mustang) had like 20k.
A lot of it comes down to loadouts though. I notice most people are using really crappy loadouts and can never seem to hit anything. I think the best pilot I've seen in VS Coop was a Mustang guy who kept up with me the entire game. He had at least 50 m/s on me (150 vs 200) so I would usually lose a kill or two simply because he gets there first.
I'm going to be sad when the Aurora gets nerfed next patch.
I use OBS with Intel Quick Sync using my CPU's integrated graphics with 15Mb/s bitrate. The quality isn't that great, but there's early no overhead, similar to Nvidia Shadowplay.
I use Dxtory for really good quality stuff, but the CPU overhead for encoding's too heavy for dogfighting on my machine.
S1 isn't a huge nerf down from S2, anyway. My S2 K&W laser repeaters will become S1 repeaters and be almost as effective.
My Freelancer LTI sold. It paid for a good chunk of a weekend trip with the girlfriend. Also, archangel125, stop shitting on ED all the damn time, especially in the ED thread, and when a person picks one over the other. Generally, that goes for everyone, but I had to say it.
My shitty mic broke, I'm on prfn.se, but it seems I just can't get my mic working. When I press the button, the blue dot doesn't even light up that I'm actually using it. Oh well. Anyone up for some fun games?
I was going to say that the SU-27 has a distinct downwards curve like the Avenger and it flies just fine, but then I remembered that when you turn off the flight assist in DCS it has an alarmingly lethal tendency to pitch downwards into an inverted flat spin.
Flight assist in DCS? You mean the automatic rudder trim?

I'm a bit surprised to hear people are actually doing that here.
ED isn't a bad game, and Star Citizen isn't for everyone. And the fact ED is already in a released state, is enough to convince most.
Also, I really wish they'd get that merlin put in already. Really liked to fly it soon. It was one of the main reasons I wanted a Connie, because it's like a flashy escape pod.

The Su-27 got its flight model updated to the PFM (professional flight model) recently that brought it up to the standards of the F-15C and the rest of the standalone DCS modules. It replaced the crappy, over 10 year old, SFM (standard flight model) that originates from Lock On.
With the new flight model, they properly modeled the fly by wire computer that keeps the jet under control, and the button to bypass it that pilots use to do Cobras and other fancy tricks at airshows.
Doing a Cobra is a lot harder than it looks though because if you're not careful the plane will enter an inverted flat spin any time it pitches down, and it will pitch down at anything higher than like 300 km/h if you ease up on the stick for even a split second.

anybody in the know on eventual ship customization? Will we be able to place custom graphics in dedicated flare spots? I'd love to display a personal emblem or even give individual ships their own designs

Easy, Sei. I was making a joke at your expense, that's all. I had major problems with Elite when it was released, but in case you hadn't noticed, I agreed they were moving in the right direction and haven't complained since the Wings update. I backed Elite to the tune of over a hundred dollars, so I'm sure you'll agree that I have a right to complain when a 1.0 feels devoid of content.
This isn't some childish 'hurt durr game A is better than game B' crap. Elite disappointed me, and I was saying that you'd probably find it no more fulfilling in the long run. Not like SC has any more content, mind you. But then SC isn't nearly done.

(The disagree rating was an accidental click.)
I've just only seen you in the ED thread shitting on it in ways that are hardly constructive, that's all. I haven't done any extensive research into your situation, just going off what I've seen. Got it?

Yeah, got it. Anyway, that was months ago.
Ship paint customization: Eventually, but probably not so extensive to be like a Forza or APB layer/shape editor. AFAIK no word from CIG on uploading custom graphics. I could see problems with this, because someone's Freelancer's gonna have explicit zoophile porn next to the busiest jump point into the Terra system on day 1 of the feature working.
But subscriber perks and probably stretch goals mention custom decals, so there'll be some kind of way of plastering stuff to your ship.
The Hull series (at least the C) seems to be being designed to have billboard space for advertisements by orgs and corps, both NPC and player-owned, in the way that trucks could use their side panels for ad spaces. The idea is that you'd take on a mission to display the client's advertisement for X period of time, so you'd take it while doing a three-system jump on your cargo haul route or whatever. Don't know how customizable the billboards will be, but that'll probably set the bar for all external ship customization flexibility if it's a shape editor. Maybe we'll eventually be able to upload images wholesale, maybe it'll only ever be simple shapes and text overlays, who knows.

Yeah, that's when you ban them. I only saw one badly drawn dick in Forza 4 and I played that game a shitload.

kind of hoping for something along the lines of what archeage did, where you can work up some money and buy a 'stamp' thing to then apply to your ships or a cape. This way you could have a guild emblem (by sharing around the stamp template) or use your own personal stuff. It was pretty heavily enforced though you could have a picture up and flying immediately. Avoiding a feature because someone can do something that'll lose their right to play the game seems a bit moot/redundant.

I mentioned this last time it came up that perhaps it could be set like sprays in Source; it's a client-side option on whether they display or not. I don't know if CIG wants to take on monitoring the stream of designs/deal with reports, but obviously I can't make that decision for them either so we'll just have to see.
I want customization for ships as well, I'm just saying that anytime you give the Internet content creation tools, all sorts of bullshit instantly spills out the other end, and I don't know what CIG intends to do about that.
I think it'd be pretty smart to release a packet of new decals and such weekly which are sent in by the community or something. Over a long time I'm sure everyone would find a decal they'd want. I'd assume that you can only place decals on certain points and such as well as color the ship to prevent any type of way to draw dick's or someshit like that.

Nah, not too fond of that idea. That's hardly any customization at all. I want to be able to give my ship some actual personality.

I'm talking with the inability of being able to do anything offensive/sexual in your customization. Imagine decals = stickers and the paint = skins, like in CS:GO. That's how I think of it.
Nah, perhaps allow people to blacklist obnoxious stuff but you're not going to be able to make such a system satisfying enough.
Not to mention that people would find a way to draw dicks with community-approved stickers or stamps anyway.

As far as in game customization goes I think it would be best if they just go with the largest amount they can comfortably implement and then deal with offenders as they come. This is the internet after all so the dicks are inescapable. Why hinder yourself trying to avoid something that's going to happen anyway?

I still want post-it notes for my dashboard and every other surface
I think I got a very important question about Star Citizen that no one has asked yet:
Will there be capes for characters?

So, there's been some confusion about what is actually happening with Squadron 42 ever since CR rambled ambiguously about it in 10FTC. Ben clears it up. TL;DR Squadron 42, as promised all the way back to the Kickstarter, hasn't changed at all and hasn't been split up into three separate paid parts. The first "mission disk", Behind Enemy Lines, which was promised to backers who got in before $6 million, is now a full-fledged sequel title, basically Squadron 42 II: BEL, instead of a small expansion to SQ42. Also, SQ42 III: No Title Yet is also in the works and is its own full game worth of content.
Every backer gets I for free (unless you only have the second-gen AMD Omega package), early backers get II for free, and presumably everyone pays for III.
So, that means that anyone who read the spoiler titles from the JIRA leak can now guess at the entire plot of Squadron 42 (I), because those 21 missions are the entire story arc. Bit of speculation: [sp]I think the Idris you start on gets blown the fuck up during the storyline.[/sp]
It appears that Squadron 42 (I) is intended to be finished by the end of this year, instead of the first content drop coming in the summer (as mentioned in the 4-hour holiday 2014 livestream) with episodic releases every 3 months. However, maybe back then CIG was already internally thinking of the SQ42 release as the whole storyline at once; if that's the case, no wonder it slipped from summer to end-of-year! If they did, summer was insanely optimistic given how long it's taken to get the cinematic mocap sessions prepared; CR only just arrived to start directing things and it's already April. No fucking way CIG was going to finish and polish all of the content by the end of July. :v:

Also, according to Reddit, turning off your lights (default keybind: O) turns off your interior lighting as well as your outside lights. Makes asteroids harder to see but also makes you harder to spot visually, and also apparently makes the radar ball that much easier to see by darkening around it.

the radar ball thing is vital when flying the 300 series, theres a white plate right behind the radar ball which makes half the ball impossible to discern.
I think winter for Squadron 42 to be a polished and "finished" feeling game given the current state of the game is really optimistic, but I hope I'm wrong. Star Citizen doesn't really inspire confidence.

The Su-33 is still using the crappy on rails SFM, so yeah you can still do that. At this point, the terribly unloved MiG-29 (which still has its ancient 12 year old LOMAC cockpit) and Su-33 are the only planes in DCS with the old SFMs.
I expect both the PU alpha and SQ42 launches to slide into January or February (and then add 2-4 weeks of patches to fix the biggest headaches and longer to patch the bugs introduced in the previous patches), and I'm okay with that. I'm just going on the deadlines they've given, and if CIG Manchester is basically 98% dedicated to SQ42, I could see them making it in time, but it'd be an AC1.0 situation where shit's a little broken over winter holidays until they get back into the office.
All of this hinges on the cinematic mocap shoots going as planned. For all we know three weeks from now there could be a giant clusterfuck as a huge flaw in their mocap tech suddenly reveals itself and progress stalls for two months while they unfuck the mocap. But it could also go flawlessly, too.
I don't fly 300-series ships that often, but looking back at my LX/325a dogfighting video (to show hitsounds), I totally see it in the 325a's dash. At least we know it's all temporary, and Zane's already working longer hours than anyone in the CIG LA offices.
