mechwarrior 4 used this kind of zoom. it actually worked well but mechs dont move as fast as ships in sc so it might not be a good idea.
the easiest solution is to have a MFD of some sort off to the side so you can lock on to a ship pinged on your radar so you can always keep a tab on him. you know. like we do in the real world.

enemy starfighter does it perfectly. now just make it a window off to the side
in love with this ship, surprisingly zippy and the rotating back engines are entertaining to watch as they work. Apparently if you're thrusting at max speed they get mad you're trying to pass the speed and will twitch to push backward and maintain speed
also the damage is pretty cool, but if your ship explodes it's hella lag as it loads all the instances of the model to host the damage parts right now, can't wait for the more streamlined system later

all the matches I've tried to run tonight I had a partner who dc'd or just idled through it so if I died it would just never end since they don't respawn themselves

FYI, the patch will delete all your control bindings and probably your entire USER folder. So if you hadn't exported and saved your controls separately you'll need to redo the whole thing.
That has completely killed all motivation for me to play tonight.

I'm just noodling around with the default mouse/keyboard controls because I was curious about the missiles. The simple fact that missiles actually inherit your velocity makes them feel [I]so[/I] much better. They haven't actually changed in any way beyond that so most of them are still garbage, but it's still a big improvement.
how's the rec earning now? hopefully not as bad as PTU

Also, Artemis went fairly well until the server crashed when I opened the SC launcher to start patching. Doesn't take too long to get the hang of it. We went around and attacked civilians. :v:

I take back what I said about missiles sucking. The Tempest IIs that the Gladiator uses are incredible, albeit very short ranged. The Gladiator itself is everything I wished it would be.

Missiles that actually work are blowing my mind.
Even the fucking torpedoes seem to hit Vanduul just fine as long as they can catch up to them. I think this is just cross section missiles being OP though.

Gladiator sounds amazing too. There's a lot of little sounds that are going on while you fly. The thrusters make awesome noises when you turn and there's just a bunch of other sounds that I haven't figured out where they're coming from but they sound great.

This one's a torpedo. Unfortunately, like all missiles they're really hard to see under the red triangle and don't leave a satisfying smoke trail. They seem to be sharing the same explosion effect as the rest of the missiles too.

Another torpedo, this time from external. They're very persistent missiles. I like how all missiles have a half second delay between deploying them and the engine igniting.

seems things randomly select their lowest res mip maps at random, only seen this issue while piloting the cutlass

Killing enemies with missiles don't seem to have lag spikes now. Mustang and Gladius seem to have a nerf in Rotation meaning both rotate slower than a hornet. whelp! Gladius have a big nerf with the total acceleration of all thrusters as well. Also looks like the gladiator have the same problem with the hornet. Lack of RCS thrusters or badly placed, and pretty funny but have slightly higher reverse acceleration than forward. Sigh...
Backstory- me, jono, elix and Xavith played Artemis Spaceship Bridge Simulator.
While on a test run of the Excalibur-class "PENIS SHIP", we encountered a herd of ethereal whales floating through the stars. At this point, jono decided to officially let the world know that Spacepunch Empire is a nuclear-capable entity. Herd was fucking vaporised without a trace.
We also encountered 'ZZ' the space monster. After getting in close quarters and losing most of our shields, the science officer (me) decided it was a good time to let the crew know that it was impervious to all damage.* There was a spooky blip on our radar and we approached not knowing what it was. Thought it was some sort of station or superweapon but it was actually a powerup giving us... power.
After that, Xavith was conscripted onto the ship. We were deployed to the frontline and defended space stations against Kralien raiders. They were pushovers compared to the bioships, which came in three stages. We intercepted a Stage 2 and that was intense, we can't imagine what a Stage 3 would be capable of.
Our objective was five bases which we dealt with over two expeditions. The first raid went smoothly, then we hurried back to intercept a ship which was attacking a [del]890 Jump[/del] luxury liner. We resupplied and went on a second raid through the north this time. Being the science officer, I could scan enemy ships for important intel such as which lasers they are weak against, and marital status of the captains. Three bases down, mission complete.
Then it was time for SCIENCE. We flew into a black hole and against all our expectations, we fucking exploded. Surprise!
*Wiki says it can be killed by falling into black holes.
I've seen the moon look like that, dai, but it usually snaps to a higher LoD soon enough. Not sure what's with the Cutlass.

I'm less bothered by the R&Y lighting than I thought; that one screenshot I posted from the PTU wasn't very representative, unless they tweaked it between PTU and live.

As captain and helmsman, I'd like to take full credit for the FFS PENIS's many accomplishments. This includes the blind jump straight into the minefield that killed us all. Jono, however, was fully responsible for nuking the peaceful space whales.

Using a cutlass right now causes huge lag for everyone else in the match, but seemingly not the person using it. Fought a cutlass that managed to exploit this to his advantage extremely well, wait for you to freeze then fires a bunch of missiles at you. Ended up having to just avoid him for the rest of the match but he kept trying to follow me around, damnit.
It was like towing around an ugly duckling with a freeze ray.

Supposedly there's a roundabout way to do it by fiddling with the F1-F2 screen on the left but I don't know how.
