He also makes nearly-direct legal threats in this long-winded, masturbatory, self-contradictory series of Facebook posts (1, 2, 3, 4, 5). He also tweeted, but deleted, this:
Tomorrow, you all need to ask RSI about the new building they're erecting in LA when they should be building a game you funded
Fortunately, I'm pretty sure CIG is going to call his bluff by doing absolutely nothing to acknowledge him. They're smarter than him.
I also can't take him or his legal threats seriously when he constantly calls the developer of Star Citizen "RSI". That's such a fundamental error I know he's not serious, because he hasn't researched shit.
Meet the Devs, starring Vin Diesel's ship-building cousin.

well cloud imperium isn't releasing stuff what a produced would be able to ask and because there isn't a traditional producer things are kept from funding, there's some transparency.
And buying off people from cryteck, yeah that's not great, I would like to see a quarterly report of where each dollar goes and more of the projection of where things will be done and the reason for actions like "why are you getting over 20 people in germany which has roughly been told, but what about hiring 50 people when everything has been delayed and revenue may slow down further then what you can pay".
There's a point to be had where they are expanding while everything is delayed implies that there can be a flaw of throwing more people at the solution which can slow things down even further.
with all this hatred of darek smart, they don't realize how much darek smart they are.
Give it a month, while taking a chill pill on trying to be smart, and be more of a wingnut and just point out a few flaws in SC and smart while riding the wave.
So Derek engages in verbal diarrhea on his Tumblr blog and on his site, makes a few decent points and a whole lot of unsubstantiated BS claims, gets called out on it, and then gets so supremely butthurt he issues an ultimatum to CIG and threatens to sue anyone who insults him over the internet.
Am I following things well enough so far?
Get the popcorn, this ought to be good.

Make sure you bring extra popcorn, because he's already threatening anyone and everyone with no-holds-barred lawsuits for republishing his five-part shitposting epic on Facebook. Naturally, this happened immediately, and if the site that's hosting those goes down I'm personally reuploading them.
This is going to be great, but his threats do have me worried. He's angry about the structure of CiG and their business choices, and telling himself he's doing everyone a favour, is about to do his best to find anything he can use to put them out of business. Because he's sore, because he's jealous, because he thinks he's doing the right thing. 80+ million dollars of crowdfunding is well and good, but a lawsuit where he has any legal grounds to stir shit up (and he makes it sound as if he does) will hurt the company considerably. And if Star Citizen fails as a result of his undermining, he gets to say "I told you so."
Derek Smart, no matter how this goes, is going to become one of the single most reviled individuals in the gaming industry.
he literally can't do shit, look at the billions of failed kickstarters that have no legal ramifications
can we seriously stop talking about him? it's obvious he just wants the attention
Smart said of his online persona: "Sometimes when I get online, and it's quiet, and I see something that attracts my attention, I'll post just to piss these guys off. That's why I do it. Because I'm in a good mood that day, I go in there and I start trouble."
The FPS module being delayed doesn't mean everything else is, though. It's unlikely they're hiring more people to have them all work on the same thing as the other teams. They've said even though that's not out yet, work is continuing on the rest of the game.
The way I see it, because there's not multimillion dollar corporation breathing down Chris Robert's neck and telling him to have the game out at a very certain date and to start cutting features if he can't, progress is slower than we're used to. Games take awhile to make, especially one with as much stuff as is planned for Star Citizen.
While I'm miffed I won't be getting the FPS module for awhile, I'm still optimistic that, until they run out of money (which they have plenty of), development will continue on Star Citizen. Would I like some more transparency than "delayed again because of bugs, sorry"? Yes, but at the same time I'm not gonna start grumbling about how I wasted $200 on a digital spaceship.

It's when they say other things that are in progress, but keep that behind closed doors.
It's like we are told the grass is greener on the other side, but aren't allowed on it, what we are stepping on has rough patches and we've only taken soil analysis behind the curtain because of mistakes.
What exactly is that guy mad about? That SC isn't a completed product yet? I kinda glanced over those Facebook posts and it basically reads like, "omg CIG is super corrupt and totally gonna fail, but I can't give you any reasons why, because it's super secret :^)"
he's trying to stir shit up like he has been basically ever since he started developing
he's trying to stir shit up like he has been basically ever since he started developing
Yes, please. Just ignore him and he'll go away. He's always done this. It's like a hobby of his to start massive multi-site flame wars. That he hasn't done it in so long just means there's a bunch of fresh blood in the genre now who haven't had to weather a Derek Smart shitstorm and are taking the bait.

Do people already forget the leak that validated a ton of CIG's claims about progress being done but held back for spoilers?
‘Star Marine is delayed indefinitely.’
First of all: the phrase ‘delayed indefinitely’ being bandied around is incorrect. We do not have a release date to announce yet, which is not the same thing. I’m aware that there is an ongoing sub-debate in which one poster will insist it is delayed indefinitely accompanied by the dictionary definition of indefinitely, and then the counter argument is that the phrase has a different meaning beyond the individual words. This counter argument is correct. ‘Delayed indefinitely’ is a games industry PR term for ‘cancelled.’ Anyone (and apparently this is a great many people) reading clickbait headlines will believe we’ve cancelled Star Marine. This is not the case, to the point that it implies the absolute opposite of what’s actually happening.
Take that, Dick Shirt.

Let's settle this like men.

You went to the trouble of paraphrasing a number of points, I just pasted a few of the most relevant ones. I'm sure the response is going to be "well what about" and then they're going to just go off about Star Citizen spending money too fast and hiring too many people and being ridiculously behind; the first one is impossible for anyone outside CIG to know but that hasn't stopped many armchair producers from doing some wild estimations and napkin math and concluding that CIG's development is entirely unsustainable.
I think I'm done with the Derek thread because I just don't have the energy to deal with the same ignorant misconceptions time and time again, at least not right now. There are some legitimate concerns and criticisms being raised in that thread (nothing we haven't already covered here), but there's so much more misinformed/ignorant nonsense flying around and I just can't.

Also, I saw someone or something where a ship is derelict because Osoians, normally docile creatures, turned on and ate the crew, but I'm not sure if this is established lore or if I'm remembering one of the submissions by a backer to my "construct a dangerous wreck" idea thread.

A CIG dev drops some info on how they intend on running instances in the PU
I think some of the confusion comes with the vocabulary, traditional instances are “copies” of an area which a small subset of players inhabit – reducing things like network lag etc. However this does also limit the player experience as not everyone is truly a part of the same world at the same moment. In our case we would like achieve the highest concurrency we can while still making the game playable. To that end we are approaching instances both in this traditional way as well as working on some newer ideas. If we look at it traditionally, an instance of an “area” like planetary orbit will have a maximum number of player slots, the logic of the Generic Instance Manager (GIM) will handle things like assuring that friends/parties as well as adversaries, factions, skill levels, and other attributes are all taken into account to place people into these instances. This will work in conjunction with a “Galaxy” server which simulates the universe to determine the likelihood of “encounters” or the population currently in orbit of a planet and stages the instances.
To speak to the newer ideas, and your question of “can I see through other instances?”, if you think about an instance as described above than I would say you would not “see” into another instance, it Is essentially a copy of the same area of space (parallel world of sorts) – however this does not mean that an instance is limited to one actual “server”. So for example (these are just example numbers not hard facts) if a server can support 20 people and another 10 people (through GIM or “Galaxy” logic) need to be added to that instance; a 2nd server would be spun up thus allowing a current total of 30 people in that instance shared across 2 servers (a missile object fired by any person in that instance could be seen and interacted with by any other person). This could theoretically be scaled continually, however there will most likely be rendering and network limitations at some point, let’s say that number was 100 players. So you would have 5 “servers” capable of supporting 20 players each make up a single 100 person “instance” – players can seamlessly move from server to server behind the scenes and be unaware.
This is not that same as changing instances though, which could be another set of 5 servers with another 100 people in a copy of that same area. In that specific moment the 100 players in Instance A will not see the 100 players in Instance B, though imagine 2 ships in Instance A and 1 ship from Instance B fly away from that planet towards the same open space, at some point those 3 ships will be “moved” out of their planetary orbit instances and perhaps have an encounter in a Battle Instance that was initiated around them, so you really can’t think of the different “instances” as fixed, they are not like realms, where only a subset of players exist. They are quite fluid and constantly being updated and refined by the GIM and Galaxy services.
On the slightly more technical side, depending on the contents of an instance it could be that it will be scaled differently than another instance, 10 Carriers in a single instance may cap itself to 70 players across 5 servers instead of the 100 in my above example. There are a vast array of metrics that go into determining these things, from both in-game stats as well as hardware wise like cpu and mem limitations. New technologies like containerization and the zoning system will help us spin up servers faster and allow for the seamless backend mentioned.
It is important to note that much of this is in development by many different teams and the final application and usage could vary from this roadmap. While not directly addressing each point you ask hopefully this gives you some insight into the instance system.
They need to phone you ccp since they're the masters of stuff like that. I can tell you that once 3000 people are in one system everything breaks, but ccp still does a pretty good job overall

True enough, but they still can fit an amount of players thats rather impressive into a system. Not like it translates directly, but something they are doing is working right.
I also downloaded SC again for the first time in like a year last night, and tried Arena Commander for the first time since they added just the one Aurora. Its really improved! Was a lot of fun and the HUD and ship cockpit felt nicer. Handled better too, had more fun twisting in and out of asteroid fields blasting Vanduul. Was only able to get to Wave 5 before I had to start getting ready for work though :(
EVE instancing isn't exactly going to have the same challenges as Star Citizen's instancing with its local grids and massively-higher asset fidelity. Also, EVE depends heavily on time dilation and that really would not work in a first-person universe. Imagine trying to defend an Idris from inside at 25% time-flow.

Nice to see them acknowledging and confirming that the 3xx series isn't really filling its described role or original brochure pitch and is undergoing a significant redesign in the future (which was already confirmed on RtV several months ago). That's why the 3xx series is unlocked for test flight starting tomorrow.
Also, ruins on Terra Prime from an ancient alien civilization? Aww yeah.
And here's the sataball helmet from the sneak peek, reconstructed into a single (huge) image:

Is something changing specifically with the 300 series tomorrow or are they just looking for feedback? The interior of that thing needs a total redesign. I'm kinda hoping they go back to the original concept where it was larger than it is now and a sort of tiny yacht with a minibar and other silly luxuries befitting of a space Mercedes or Rolls Royce.
Fuck cargo.

If they make the 315p really nice I'd pay the $15 to upgrade, I was hesitant to put more in the game right now but after playing Arena Commander I'm back onboard. That game alone is nearly worth $15 as is :D
Is something changing specifically with the 300 series tomorrow or are they just looking for feedback? The interior of that thing needs a total redesign.
The 3xx series is slated for a major rework pass, like the Connie and Freelancer are getting right now, but it's on the back burner. Nothing is changing with the ships right now. They're gathering feedback and player stats/analytics from AC with this free flight week.
Ben said they also specifically want feedback on how the 3xx series available right now compares to how they were pitched in the brochure -- what you want changed in order to realign those two things, because they do not match right now.
True enough, but they still can fit an amount of players thats rather impressive into a system. I'd imagine feeding such a beast would sap considerable funds from the actual development of SC post-release.

Plus they're already committed to Google Cloud Compute and whatever it can give them for compartmentalizing servers for instancing.

this is a mockup I did ages ago with old ass assets - standard aurora cargo boxes totalling 25 freight units
imagine that but with sleeker, custom-build origin containers
