Man that scythe hud looks amazing, has there been any talk about ramming with the blade?
I like the Merlin, but hate how the weapons are aligned with the nose. Makes it hard to shoot at things moving below you.

I think that's just a problem with the terribad visibility in the ship stemming from the cockpit being at the ass-end. You're going to have issues with shooting enemies no matter where you place the weapons on the Merlin, because the ship is basically two-dimensional besides the rear fins and cockpit; no way to raise or lower the weapons without putting them on pylons.
In Spacebuild for GMOD, I'd always put my weapons to the bottom left of my ship's nose, which worked great because I always had excellent visibility and the weapons effects wouldn't blind me.

I really hope they fixed that jittery camera bug because that's annoying as hell and not something you should publish to live.

PLEASE NOTE: 1.1.5 does NOT include the new Launcher 2.0 system that we're testing on PTU.
This is a *huge* update and we'll have full Patch Notes available for you soon, but in the meantime, here are some highlights:
- Battle Royale and Squadron Battles now support up to 16 players.
- Vanduul Scythe and P-52 Merlin are Hangar- and Flight-Ready.
- Accounts with Constellations will be given loaner Merlins; however, these loaners cannot be placed in a Hangar.
- Multiplayer stuttering along with freezing issues on ship spawn/destruction have been addressed.
- The “Electronic Access” button has replaced the Arena Commander button in the Main Menu.
- Arena Commander and Star Marine icons will be seen in the Electronic Access Menu.
- Arena Commander and Star Marine icons will be grayed out for accounts that do not have access to the respective module. (Note: Star Marine is NOT playable in this update.)
- Game modes will have a red overlay for accounts that are invited to lobbies which contain game modes they do not have access to.
- Players entering a game from the same Lobby will now always be on the same team.
- All game content audio has been transitioned to the new WWise cross-platform sound engine.
- Lobby now has music!
Several game balance changes have also been introduced:
- One hit kills have been reduced.
- Gatling cannon spool time reduced; gun now fires while spooling.
- Reduced CS missile damage.
- Increased missile range.
- Increase health for all human ships; some 2x, some 3x. Be sure to check Patch Notes for specific ship changes.
- Weapon disparity per sizes increased.
- Rebalanced boost consumption and recharge rates.
- Rebalanced ship thrusters to be in line with ship goals.
- Chaff dispersion has been increased.
We’re also deploying several sizable new, backend technologies:
- General Instance Manager (GIM). A full rewrite of the backend services that not only allocates and manages Arena Commander and Star Marine game server instances, but also the framework for multiplayer Hangars and the Persistent Universe game servers.
- Matchmaker Service. A full rewrite of the matchmaking system that will keep players in public groups on the same teams, eliminate long waits, and resolves the issues of perpetual Match Not Founds.
- “Phoenix” Dynamic Environments. A completely new backend service that allows us to spin up and scale services and environments at an exponentially faster rate with sharply improved stability. What does this mean for you, the players? We can scale up to test much faster to quickly and safely provide identical environments on Live that we use while in dev and in testing, and we can rapidly compensate for spikes in traffic.
Known Issues (partial list):
- Audio problems may exist throughout the client as we troubleshoot integration of the new WWise audio system.
- Clients can occasionally get stuck on an infinite loading screen due to being connected with an instance that no longer exists .
- Gameplay divergence can cause situations where it appears like a ship is being hit but not taking damage, when the shots are actually missing the ship.
- The HUD and UI are completely missing throughout the tutorial.
- Constellation Andromeda and Freelancers have much of their interiors a solid black.
- Players cannot interact with the Merlin HUD.
- Players may infrequently not be able to spawn after death in multiplayer matches.
- Retaliator floor collision is disabled and players will fall through the floor.
- Combustion Pistol cannot be equipped.
- Characters may animate incorrectly when leaving ships.
Please note that most of our content is unoptimized at this time, and machines may encounter higher CPU/GPU/RAM usage than normal with 1.1.5. We'll continue to investigate this and potential memory leaks with the client.

It can operate totally independent from the mothership to fly around, land on planets, and so on. The problem is that as far as I know it can't equip a jump drive, which severely limits its usefulness as a standalone ship.

I believe Traveller has a similar concept to get ships into systems; the ships don't have a jumpdrive, but it lets them carry a shitload of guns and armor, so they dock to one big jump drive barge covered in docking collars, warp in, detach, and the barge can jump away or hide.

No Quantum Drive or Jump drive puts it entirely dependent on a mother ship to get out of the local area. It doesn't regenerate boost, either, since it uses chemical boost and assumes the ability to refill in the mother ship.

damn, I really miss the fast speeds of the 2.0 version of the launcher now. :v:
They'll be putting the new launcher out soon, but there are still some quirks in it so that's why they had it be up on the PTU. Apparently the new launcher isn't so great at [I]deleting[/I] files when it replaces them, just adding more files. :pcrepair:

I would not be surprised if human-flyable Scythes are needed for Squadron 42. Speculation: [sp]Squadron 42, the unit, is established as an elite ace unit that handles important tasks; the pitch trailer introduces SQ42's Bengal as being on Secret Ops - human-piloted Scythes for false-flag ops against pirates and shit make sense[/sp].
Also, $20/month subscribers have been collecting Scythe test flight tokens and they've been trying to fulfill the rewards that have been piling up for subscribers after they promised them before any of it was possible to begin with. Those tokens are going out to people soon. I'm sort of hoping they just put the Scythe up for rental in the subscriber REC section (or just the public REC section ffs and let everyone play with it if they can pony up the cost) and shower even more REC on Imperator subs (as if they need it).
And, IIRC, there are 300 of them that were "captured" from the dead carrier for the in-lore justification for the sale.
Hopefully in the pu capturing and retrofitting vanduul stuff will be doable. How else am I going to open my Used Ship Emporium and stock it with exotic spaceframes?

How annoying, I've bought a month of Imperator (instead of my usual $10/mo sub) for the Gamescom event item, but it doesn't kick in until the 27th. :v:

hmm I tried to go into freeflight broken moon, but it seems to be loading indefinitely.
was thinking of dropping some extra cash on this game, though not sure which ship to go for. mostly looking for something that's flyable right now and handles well in Arena Commander. is the Hornet still the go to ship in that regard or has anything new and exciting become flyable? I already own the 300i
I'd give things a try via REC and test flights. 1.1.5 has changed the flight model to maintain momentum, so ships are drifty, and that likely means Hornets are particularly drifty (I'm still patching so I can't confirm).
Mustangs handle fairly well due to having basically overcharged thrusters, but they're a bit fragile. Hornets are the de facto kings of dogfighting, primarily Super Hornets for their straight-up damage reduction and ball turret gun. The latest patch changed missiles as well as longevity across the board, so Gladiator may not be as overpowered an option since, in theory, it won't be Missile Commander anymore.
You can also borrow ships from people here, via trading ships in free flight to screw around in. And, at this point, the Merlin may actually be a competitive choice in AC, although it's got finite boost and probably not a lot of physical protection. I haven't tried it myself yet, but, I have one now and I'm more than halfway done patching.
Yes. At this point, [B]don't buy ships[/B] if your purpose for buying them is just to fly them in Arena Commander. Even though they sadly reduced REC, I still use REC to try new ships/guns when I play. It's the only reason I've been able to fly most of the ships in the game.
Keep an eye out for the free fly weekends too. They're like every other weekend these days.
As for fun ships to fly, I've only flown the Hornet on the PTU so I can't say for 100% sure, but the Gladiator was my favorite feeling ship of the previous patch. It was a lot like the Hornet, but ironically more responsive and faster feeling despite being bigger and having a lower top speed. The next chance I get to play (downloading live 1.1.5 now) I'll probably make a post with the ships I have rented out. I have the Hornet, Gladius, and Cutlass, and I'll probably rent out the Merlin because I've heard it has an interesting flight model.
