we absolutely need one to use as a boarding vessel to cut through capital ship hulls
the physics is wrong though unless you like spinning.

Sounds more like a Prostitute delivery service.
Fractured Space is worth a play if you have it or can get it for free, the sound design is really fucking satsifying and the ships all look great. Holes eventually wear in your armor and allow people to do more damage by shooting through them, so you have ot learn to rotate and present your best side when duking it out. There are some pretty varied ship classes, and the warp in/out animations and sounds are so damn satisfying good lord
It has a bad UI design though, and can get a bit dry gameplay wise. Still worth a look imo

Yeah. It looks cool as fuck but it's kinda stupid. Should either give 2 or 4 centrifuges.
Why does ore need centrifugal gravity, anyways?

I'd agree to the even numbers, though maybe due to the containers starting empty and filling up over time, they could just rotate them as needed. A full set of centrifuges is going to have a LOT more influence than an empty one, so filling and rotating could be done to balance out the influence. Again, visual mass =/= true weight distribution
on the question of why centrifugal containers, let's put it this way: if you're dumping rocks in a bucket, you want them compacted at the 'bottom' so you can fit as many as possible in there as it fills up. Therefore, spin the containers so ore is sent to the far ends and fills up nice and neat
in worse cases for a big zero-g container with no gravitational pull to one end, you're going to be fighting with tons of loose debris clogging up the area that ore will be coming out of. An alternative to spinning a centrifuge, you could be using a shitton of energy generating the artificial gravity necessary to treat the ore more like filling a dumptruck, which sounds horribly inefficient on a number of levels
I thought they clarified that the spinning is only to unload, not to be centrifuges all the time?
[editline]28th July 2015[/editline]
Like, so that they could unload all of their cargo without changing their orientation.

Yeah, pretty sure this is the case. The picture seems to imply that too.

Oh, and for subscribers only, CIG is going to be selling the batch of 890 Jump brochures (physical items) they found leftover in the office, for $10 each, tomorrow. (digital version)
Hey guys!
We have a couple hundred leftover 890 Jump brochures here in the office and are wondering if you guys would like them. We're thinking of offering them first-come, first-serve to subscribers for $10 (worldwide shipping included.) Let me know if you're interested via the poll below and we'll set it up!

Hey guys! We'll be listing these in the store for subscribers only tomorrow. We'll do them in two allotments to accommodate different time zones, but I don't have sale times yet. I will post times here (in this thread) as soon as they are available.
We're also going to be opening up pre-orders for some other merchandise tomorrow with special prices for subscribers. Stay tuned for a post tomorrow with more information!

We're actually discussing whether the systems are all within the Milky Way or in other galaxies too. Jump points let us play with distance a bit, so either could be fun possibilities.
There isn't really a point to extra-galactic systems unless they take some major artistic license with how space looks. Stars look pretty much the same wherever you are, and the Milky Way is unknown enough to make up nebula and weird stuff like megascale engineering (dyson spheres, for example).
A system on the periphery of the Large Magellanic Cloud would be pretty neat, though. The Milky Way would still be visible.

A rogue solar system or planet in near intergalactic space would look pretty similar.
Maybe for special events where you can jump to a special location (sorta like the special event zones in many MMO's) could be explained in-lore as "someone somehow plotted a jump point to this nearby place outside of our galaxy! unfortunately due to cosmic shift or something the plotted jump will become inaccurate after a few weeks which just coincidentally aligns with the end of Christmas!"
The we could have cool space-shenanigans without having to clean up after ourselves
I'd like to see a few systems far above or below the main bulk of systems in the galactic plane. In shores one of the tymas folks flew way above the galactic plane before warp drives, it took like a month but looking down on the galaxy was honestly really impressive.

He also posted a bunch of ship beauty shots, primarily for concept sales.
Also, via Reddit, here's something players won't have to put up with due to first- and third-person animations being unified in fps mode:

Consider this next time you grumble about Star Marine being delayed. :buckteeth:
Those beauty shots are goddamn gorgeous.

I feel like we've seen the jump concept before though? I like the idea, especially if finding new jump points is basically traversing that bullshit like a cave complex.

kinda looks worse to me then the first showing, I liked the darker and non glossy look.

we have

Oh man just watched that counter strike video. Fuck that source noise. I hope 3rd person synchronization becomes the norm soon.
If you've ever played Arma, since your character is right handed and does the same thing, you actually get used to peeking around cover from the right side so as to minimize your profile (especially important for using trees as cover). So counter-intuitive in this Source Engine "ur eyes are gun" context.
kinda looks worse to me then the first showing, I liked the darker and non glossy look.
Yeah, it looks like 90s scifi CGI where everything looked like it was made out of slime or radioactive playdough.

Definitely prefer the old. I hope they figure out where they want their aesthetic. Serious can often mean less vibrant, but that doesn't mean boring.
Bear in mind that the jump visuals are WIP concepts, much like how there are tons of different ship designs proposed for a ship before they settle on one. Nothing says they'll pick the glossy nuclear gorehouse look. I just grabbed it for a thumb because it was visually stunning and unlike what we saw in the PAX South townhall reveal.

I like this much better, a more iridescent (soap/oil film on water) look.
wait, looking at the pax video, it pics were there to begin with.
Crossing fingers in that it's only visible like that for a split second like lighting.

i try not to think about it much because i'm out of money for ships ;=;
At least it's not in the store, taunting you. Or flyable. You have plenty of time to develop coping strategies for not being in the pilot's seat.
I realize actually that the odds are pretty high that each jumpoint will be different. Color-wise.
In Freelancer, all the jump holes were colored based on where they went, so it's not unprecedented.
Unrelated, but who here knew that Ian Ziering was the voice actor for Trent in Freelancer?
Also he showed up in Defiance recently as an arms dealer. Neat. From sharks to aliens/guns
this one looks cool
