I was never a fan of stretchy ships as a warp/jump/hyperspace/whatever effect. I think it looks really cheesy.
maybe it's because I liked star trek v:v:v
The weekly Vault dump is all of the Banu MM concept art they have, including a few pieces that haven't been made public before. [sp]As always, CIG does not take action against people leaking the whole thing as long as it's not on RSI.com[/sp]

The Merlin Q&A is up, as is the new merch (subscribers will see a preorder for the track jacket seen in 10FTC; it'll be open to all in "a few weeks" according to Alexis). The 890J brochures have had the first batch sold out, but Alexis will be restocking them for subscribers at 4pm Pacific (90min from this post) and they'll probably vanish quick.
Subscribers get a slight discount on the new merch ($32 instead of $35 for the mousepad), too. The jacket's priced at $45, $49 regular. Sez Alexis,
It will be $49 for everyone else during our pre-order period and once pre-orders are closed and we've completed manufacturing, they'll be sold for $59.

Please note that this is a pre-order and will not ship immediately. Estimated ship date is November 2015
you need to come back to fix up look sharp

This glitch was found in the live build and reported to CIG and is now patched. EVA was able to achieve speeds of up to 4km/s. :v:

Someone on Reddit has this happen. A few sessions of chiro'll sort that out.

The Jump Point lore article about Kruger Intergalactic, makers of the Merlin, has been posted, too.
The new Constellation looks quite good. I always felt that the other one was unnaturally...flimsy. Hollow. Stick-like. Like it existed in its own sci-fi universe where things didn't need explaining. Like it was on its own level while all of the other craft (or at least the newer ones) felt like they had guts to them. Now the Constellation does too.

That said, the style doesn't seem to fit with other ships of the same manufacturer, but that may just be because the exterior looks like much more of a WIP than the interior.
[editline]29th July 2015[/editline]
That said, the CoM couldn't realistically be where it is, but that's fine I guess...
I'd compare the reworked Connie against the Orion more than the Aurora (the only RSI ships so far that aren't never-for-pledge supercapitals) in terms of styling. The Aurora is one of the first ships designed, and all the old ships are going to get rework passes like the Connie and Freelancer are getting, up to the quality of the Merlin (the first ship to have everything the new pipeline is to output).
And, of course, the Orion exists in concept only, so far; the exterior concept is complete and the interior's being concepted out, as listed in the ship status post. Only so much can be relied on before the Orion goes through the ship pipeline, and I don't expect that to even start until next year.

How are those people standing on the loading ramp not getting space dead
How are those people standing on the loading ramp not getting space dead
1) EVA suits (you're expected to survive ejection from your Hornet's cockpit, although you'll have limited oxygen/life support), or
2) they're only there for scale representation, and the Banu MM's been upscaled since its original concepts, IIRC, anyway
3) it's an energy field barrier keeping the air in.
had it in wing commander and showed it off in one test footage in SC on the Bengal.
It's possible, although I wonder if that's what's being represented with the glow--but, Banu tech, could be for all we know.
And, we saw the energy field more recently in the PAX Australia fps demo's intro cinematic, where the Redeemer flies through it to drop off the tacticool Illfonic devs.

Also, I don't care what any of you think, I still think this is the coolest part of the Redeemer, fuck making sense. The effect wasn't there in a more recent version of the PAX Aus cinematic (I think in a trailer), and I hope they haven't cut it/the flyable version is even more badass if they do replace it.

I wish there was a way to do non-shit somewhat fashion conscious pop culture gear. A well designed SC article of clothing that had a really subtle logo or distinguishing mark would be neat.

Hell yeah that would be cool. I think the issue is that minimalism requires heavy design control from good designers. I think most pop culture merch is just generic china designs with their logos attached. Also quality is expensive, and the market for expensive items is already limited without further limiting it to a niche.
And if a cool fashion designer wanted to consolidate efforts and make products based on movies (unlikely of vidya) you might run into significant copyright issues, or at least have no way to communicate to potential customers where xyz article was inspired by.
That said, movie characters aren't usually something you would want to look like. Not even subtley.
[editline]29th July 2015[/editline]
But even just more simply, things like a nice polo with the SC logo over one side of the chest would be neat, but the market for subtle stuff like that is probably pretty low. People that play games aren't usually known for their fashion sense, not even within games.

Some of the old eve merch was actually not half-bad but god damn it was expensive as FUCK. A nice messenger bag would be dope, could slap a nice neat minimal design on that and be more free with coloring/trim accessories and stuff.

I like the shaping of the engine split thingers but the sticky beam between them is goofy to me. I'd rather it be like an exhaust system that just glows/lets off small trails when it gets hot

how do you get into this thing?
Please tell me theres another wave of 890 Jump brochures? I waited around in the subscriber store (you know, since they said it was a subscriber only deal) only to find they're in the standard store with 0 units left. I really want one :(

My dad's and grandfather's old flightsuits were like that, they have well hidden zippers under little flaps but they were still there. I'm betting it would be just under that red line or something.
Always felt silly trying to climb into one of those flightsuits though

It's too bad in the future they still haven't solved the problem of having to take your flight suit most of the way off when you need to shit.

1.1.6 is live on PTU now, and now you can use the new launcher for both the live and PTU client AND switch from live to PTU directly in the launcher (via a "copy to PTU" button) instead of having to fuck about with the website. Note, the new launcher doesn't automatically overwrite the live client and will try and make a new install, but you can start the download and then stop it and drag your existing install over it. 1.1.6 contains multiplayer adjustments and fixes.
Also, [del]Cryengine autist[/del]community hero Fiendishfeather (serious he's a good dude) discovered something about the Scythe that CIG hasn't shown us yet. I think they wanted it to be a scary-but-cool surprise for people to encounter in-game. This is the Scythe model normally, imported into ff's Cryengine sandbox and retextured (because CIG's PBR crap is all proprietary internal tech):

Spoiler: this is the 'hidden' feature. Linked just in case anyone would like to encounter this for the first time in-game. I'm slightly disappointed that I spoiled myself on this, because it would've been pants-shittingly awesome to be surprised with it in a dogfight, and now I know. It's not a huge feature, but it lets you know how much CIG is holding back for the spoiler/surprise value, despite also being open about the progress of development and showing backers how their money's being spent. (That was also demonstrated with the leaked build and how much shit that hadn't been shown was in/beyond whiteboxing.)

That seems kinda... dumb.
damn man you talked that up way too much
we've known about that thing already thanks to the leak, granted we haven't seen it directly. Given vanduul would rather die than be captured, it's not TOO far fetched they'd make kamikaze runs a spectacle
That seems kinda... dumb.
The Scythe's blade is stupid as fuck, at least on the ship it's mounted on. You take one swipe with that blade, the blade is gonna jam and your ship is going to either snap off, or the arm is gonna bend and whip your cockpit straight into the rest of the target ship if it is big enough.
A Vanduul gunboat similar in size to a Constellation or Retaliator with a ramming prow would be pretty entertaining, though. Put a door on it the prow and use it to ram ships and subsequently board them. It would also look slightly less dumb.
