So far i havent given up on this game. Is that good?
So far i havent given up on this game. Is that good?
...yes? I mean, they've been putting out constant community contact and showing updates and that they're still working on it. So there's not really any reason to give up on it yet unless you fell for and believed that wave of bullshit reporting.
Jump points != Quantum Drive Inside Jump Points, you are very much free-flying through a wormhole that will wormwreck your shit if you crash into the sides. Jump points connect you to different systems. Quantum Drive is in-system fast travel, around 0.2c, and that is straight-line warping. That's what we're talking about.
I didn't realize there was going to be that as well as Jump Points.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhh So stoked about this, I feel like my SC excitement is flowing back. Can't wait for 2.0 next May
what is this? [t]https://i.imgur.com/K0xy35B.jpg[/t]
Look at the Connie cockpit mockup just to the left of it and realize you're looking at the right half of the central screen in that photo. The three cockpit spars are shinier now. It's a close-up view, either a zoom or just standing ahead of the seats. capgun, when's a good time tomorrow for SC (assuming the GIMp isn't still Pulp Fiction fucked), if any?
Any time after I wake up, honestly. Just gotta dig my X52 and figure out how I'm gonna set this shit up

Just tried out the latest update... Flying the aroura is neigh impossible in a dogfight...
Yeah and? There's nothing there, especially if the scale is anything like what you want it to be. Space is immense, and pretty boring. I come down on the side of shrinking it down for purposes of a game, but we'll see
I disagree. If the game promised large maps, I expect to be able to go to any point of space I want to go to in those maps, at will, whether or not there's nothing there. If they were going to make that space inaccessible, they may as well shrink the game to a couple of hundred kilometers in the vicinity of any planetary docking ring, moon or station, and eliminate the idea of seamless star systems entirely. Besides, how the hell is exploration supposed to work?
Just tried out the latest update... Flying the aroura is neigh impossible in a dogfight...
Isn't it one of those not-meant-for-dogfight ships? Legit question, it's been a while for me. Also, what's wrong with it.
Isn't it one of those not-meant-for-dogfight ships? Legit question, it's been a while for me. Also, what's wrong with it.
Find a nice heavy brick ,and give it a good toss, that about sums up its maneuverability, can barely change course at its tops speed of 160m/s
Find a nice heavy brick ,and give it a good toss, that about sums up its maneuverability, can barely change course at its tops speed of 160m/s
It probably just needs some tweaking.
The Aurora's good at pitch maneuvering, not so much on yaw maneuvering. Roll into and pitch through sharp turns instead of trying to yaw them.
For anyone who has a Hornet/Super Hornet, does it still maneuver decently after the recent changes? My computer's in the shop, and I'll have a diagnosis by Monday. If I'm lucky, it's only the motherboard that's damaged, the CPU is fine, and I might still be able to RMA the motherboard. But it's a big if.
Find a nice heavy brick ,and give it a good toss, that about sums up its maneuverability, can barely change course at its tops speed of 160m/s
The Aurora can actually change its velocity vector alarmingly quickly if you roll such that the ship only needs to thrust up/down to correct itself. The reason is because there's only 2 thrusters on the ship that can point sideways, but 6 that can point vertically. I like having the option to being able to either slide around or fly on rails. I mean, that doesn't make it good ship or anything, but it's one of the more interesting ones to fly. [editline]2nd August 2015[/editline] Oh, nevermind. Didn't see the new page.
Any idea if the servers are currently functional or are they still experiencing a slow burn
The PTU stress test was successful (PTU melted down from load), but I haven't tried the live servers today, and Jono was in an fparma op for almost four hours. ...well.
Greetings Imperators! I know a lot of you are waiting for REC to fly your Scythes with, and I'm here to tell you... it's never going to happen! But wait: this is good news! Starting with 1.1.6, all Imperator subscribers will have the Scythe unlocked by default all the time in Arena Commander. So instead of 24 hours a month, you'll get all-Scythe all the time. Please note that this is ONLY valid in Arena Commander; being a subscriber won't unlock the Scythe in your Hangar or in the Persistent Universe. You will still have to catch your own there! Thank you for your patience, and happy hunting!

What about the people who already did pay for the Scythe with REC, that also are Imperator Subscribers? I got impatient waiting for the Scythe and just bought it with the REC I have saved up, will there be a refund for us Imperator Primes who bought it for REC?
Hey! I'm sorry for the confusion with this-- I did post in a few threads here last week to clarify that we haven't attributed the REC yet and we were still working out our plan. If you did rent the Scythe with REC, please submit a support ticket to my attention and I will attribute that REC back to your account for you.
Subscriber benefits are slowly getting worse at being pay2win within Arena Commander. $20/month = 24/7 Scythe rental. This works out for us in general because it means it'll be easier for us to fly with alien ships (I'm pretty sure Jono keeps his Imperator sub active, maybe others), but it sends the wrong message in general. However, it also makes the Scythe a lot more available, because I've a feeling CIG wasn't getting a ton of feedback from the ~300 Scythe owners (plus some may have been melted since). Also, via Reddit [t]https://i.imgur.com/AP7BpZZ.jpg[/t] Working on the weekend for Gamescom. I've been wondering when they'd get a proper public facing bug tracker system, they really need one.
I've been wondering when they'd get a proper public facing bug tracker system, they really need one.
Kind of odd, right? They should create a JIRA.
They already use JIRA, aaaaand, well... That says hi. :buckteeth:
didn't this happen already? or is it the old image? [editline]3rd August 2015[/editline] I'm more interested in the wiki than the dates though.
I have a Freelancer, and I am not great at space flight - I kind of want to do cargo and shit and maybe work on a big ship for people, is a freelancer a good ship for me? edit: I want combat capabilities incase I ever pick up a better joystick, but as of right now I suck ass with the Extreme 3d Pro
Just use a mouse and keyboard like our PC god Bill Gates intended. Especially since the game seems to be tailored for M+KB atm.
That's the old JIRA leak that included all the SQ42 chapter titles, yes. [t]https://i.imgur.com/gGGN1Z5.jpg[/t] From Sandi's FB. This could be a SQ42 shot. The caption, according to Reddit, was "Relax and take a seat before your mission begins..." ...Squadron 42 peek at Gamescom? :excited: Also according to Reddit, CIG has confirmed that the Cutlass will be shown off in its new modular state at Gamescom, and the Tali will be flyable (this one's been known). INN also collated meaningful stuff devs said in chat a couple days back, including this:
(1:43:35 PM) CIG Matt Sherman: Every ship/weapon/etc is getting changed as all the new components and damage system roll out. (1:47:18 PM) CIG Matt Sherman: But everything is still going to have its strengths/weaknesses, nothing is going to be a defacto-win-ship.

(3:19:20 PM) CIG Matt Sherman: It’s so complex though, we have to break it into chunks and roll things out piece by piece, but it’s also putting more priority on some other systems that need to be built out.

(4:36:45 PM) CIG Matt Sherman: The current damage system is more hard-fixed values, but the physically based damage system in the works will be based on F=mv, though it will still have some abstraction needed for balance reasons.

(9:46:57 PM) CIG Matt Sherman: 4mo of component work so far, still plenty left to do. But it’s gonna be great when it’s all running live. (9:47:41 PM) CIG Matt Sherman: But it’s causing so many needed improvements for the game. The physical size of the weapons isn’t going to be comical anymore, ballistic barrels will match the rounds they’re firing, every component will have its place. Going to be grea.t (9:48:04 PM) CIG Matt Sherman: Just need to get a few more parts prototyped out, but we need to get the Gamescom demo in the bag before that can happen.
Yesssssss components and physically-based damage
(1:48:12 PM) CIG Matt Sherman: Scythe blade should already be working if you have one to fly. (1:49:05 PM) CIG Matt Sherman: switch to its weapon group and treat it more like a missile.

(6:36:31 PM) CIG Ben Lesnick: The Vanguard is a concept model right now, meaning it’s not in CryEngine at all. But Gurmukh did such a solid job we may be able to reuse more than we usually do. (6:37:37 PM) CIG Matt Sherman: Vanguard also needs to have the internal components it’ll be using built out, plus it’d really need the upcoming physically based damage system and armor changes to really live up to its selling specs.
Vanguard absolutely confirmed for not even hangar-ready this year, RIP :disappoint: but possibly a bit faster than expected! Also, the Tali has shitty shields and S1 guns on its turrets; Matt confirms that's changing.
(6:31:18 PM) CIG Ben Lesnick: The demo next week is full of landings, be afraid :D
GOOD Assuming Gamescom does not explode in flames and fail to deliver on many/all promises, :hypeisreal: [sp]livestream exploding in flames is a given[/sp] [editline]3rd August 2015[/editline]
I have a Freelancer, and I am not great at space flight - I kind of want to do cargo and shit and maybe work on a big ship for people, is a freelancer a good ship for me? I want combat capabilities incase I ever pick up a better joystick, but as of right now I suck ass with the Extreme 3d Pro
If you want to do cargo and still be able to fight back, a Freelancer's an excellent place to start, especially if you're not interested in throwing money at the game. Start on a Freelancer, and spend time crewing on larger ships, once the PU's up. For your own personal career I'd suggest a Freelancer and then a Connie, as the Connie's a step up in cargo storage (so far--may change) over the 'lancer but requires more crew, and then the next ship you'd want to earn and fly in the PU will depend on what you want to be after you've had some time trying out what you thought you wanted.
Just use a mouse and keyboard like our PC god Bill Gates intended. Especially since the game seems to be tailored for M+KB atm.
HOTAS/gamepad/K+M balancing is something the devs will address later, once the foundations of AC are nailed down. They recognize that the input methods are not equal and mouse+gimbal is a distinct (if possibly overstated) advantage over others with gimbals, but they're not giving it the full balance treatment yet. Knowing CIG they'll keep fucking up the HOTAS balance until it's almost the only thing holding back leaving beta, but at the very least, they have a plan for dealing with it even if that doesn't include doing it right now.
How does one treat a scythe blade like a missile? Does it give you a pipper for interception at your speed?
[sp]livestream exploding in flames is a given[/sp]
let's hope they actually did fire that one guy :v:
