Yes there is.
Wow, thanks, this got me to easily playable framerates in-game. Hangar is still terrible, but apparently that's a given. After getting the hang of switching between mouse joystick and relative mode on the fly, I can see what you mean about fixed and gimballed weapons not being too far apart. There's some kind of auto-aim assist when in relative mode that really helps, but it does still need some tuning. It ends up making me have to wrench my mouse around to keep up with enemy maneuvers, but turning it off makes aiming too hard by far. I figured all this out in a Merlin (because that's the cheapest buy-in right now and I wanna see how it works) and managed to get to "Little King" and his obnoxious backwards-firing missiles. Fighting with half a spaceship is pretty fun.
There's some kind of auto-aim assist when in relative mode
That's ESP, which you can turn off (in the esc options menu, first tab). ESP attempts to guess when your inputs mean you're trying to keep your reticle on the enemy and when your inputs are to break off. It's helpful but in the latest patches it's WAY too strong about keeping you in the "aim assist" zone. The one disadvantage of relative mode is that you will run out of desk while doing turns that last more than a second or two. FYI if the only thing you have bought, period, is a Merlin, you will not be able to continue playing the game when the free week ends on August 19th (it was extended by two days because of a critical flaw with account data corruption that was preventing people from logging into the launcher). The reason for this is that the Merlin is a standalone ship that does not include a copy of the game or game access. You need a package. The cheapest packages that will give you everything you need right now to play are behind the Fly Now link on the RSI homepage. You don't have to worry about choosing between an Aurora MR and a Mustang Alpha permanently, as there are $0 cross-chassis "upgrades" (actually lateral swaps) for each, so you can switch back and forth, but not inside of the game. Oh, and Vanduul AI shooting missiles and guns backwards is a bug.
Oh, and Vanduul AI shooting missiles and guns backwards is a bug.
It's not just the AI, if you've tried flying a glaive you will notice that one of your cannons fires backwards as well.
Aha, I see. So, say, buying the Merlin plus an Arena Commander pass wouldn't actually get the game or anything? Well, still interested anyway. I love the idea of the Aurora. A little personal space truck with a sleeping cab and everything. At some point when they let us actually step out of the cockpit while in flight, I want to take a nap during Vanduul Swarm.

I finally have a graphics card that can run this game. It feels so good to play this after owning it for so long and seeing you guys talk about it.
It's not just the AI, if you've tried flying a glaive you will notice that one of your cannons fires backwards as well.
I was wondering why the Glaive only had one of the cannons firing. Occasionally it shot both, but normally it was only the right one. I heard the missile on the left wing did the same.
[editline]e[/editline] on that note, time to start thinking on the hardest part of any game: deciding on names. Maybe some of us will figure it out by release!
Anytime I can name ships, I give them self-deprecating ones. The Incompetent, the Corrigible, the Indifferent, etc.
Elite Dangerous -> ED -> Erectile Dysfunction, it's only fitting I call my sidewinder such
Is your aurora named repetitive strain injury?
dug through submarine naming conventions and found it somehow more depressingly boring than the average nautical naming SO, I found a random space ship name generator and figured I could at least get some inspiration out of it. First result was "the vagabond" and I had a laugh, as it was (mostly) a good friend's common username. Sent her a message to joke about it, but quickly realized "The UEE New Vagabond" sounds pretty solid for a freelance mercenary setup what to do with the designation though. UEE still? Some acronym for the ship's type/role?
I'm calling my Hull B "The Chubby Monkeytrucker". And my Herald "Little Bobby Tables". Also, fuck Reddit's custom CSS styling and important info not appearing if you don't use it. It caused me to accidentally call out a fucking dev to ask for a citation when what appeared to be a random user asserted that the multicrew demo took place around Crusader in Stanton without any supporting evidence, because the CIG flair is only visible with the custom CSS and this is what it looks like without it: BTW, the multicrew demo took place on Cillin Station, in orbit around Cillin aka Crusader 223, moon of Crusader. The gas giant in the demo is confirmed to be Crusader.

I've gone with a WWII aircraft style naming convention for my ships. So far I have "Birmingham Belle" for my Freelancer and "Gypsy Fish" for my Aurora. Still unsure on names for my other ships and I have no clue what sort of designation to go with! Maybe the Google Glass is to 2944 hipsters what Walkmans and BetaMax tapes are to us? :v: [editline]lol[/editline] Also have "The Runaway" for my M50 and "Quantum Singularity" for my Herald. Subject to change frequently between now and release!
i always liked the halo EU names Say My Name for my 325a i'm thinking This End Up for my Aurora

I mean, I guess I can't fault them for paying tribute to Google Glass, because I imagine that it was part of the inspiration for MobiGlas. Google also discontinued the old models of Glass and their new design (which snaps onto existing eyewear instead of being part of the glasses) is aimed at professionals in work environments and won't be offered to the public. And it's not like it'll be the only option.. but christ. The dev I waved my dick at by accident says it's probably from the SQ42 opening. I still can't believe that fucking happened. He was cool about it when he saw what happened, but, god, how embarrassing. :hurr: Talking about that dev (who is a UI programmer), remember how we were baffled on what to do to get the Scythe's blade to extend? People started making their own replicas to print their own certs, either because they weren't at the event or they did go but wanted certificates for the ships they already own.
if i upgrade my ship do i keep the lifetime insurance on it i got when i pledged or no
yes, using CCU or upgrades. the only way to lose it is to exchange your package for store credit
Just updated my profile on RSI. Adjusted the names of some of my ships. // F7C-M Super Hornet: 'Thanatos' // // MISC Starfarer: 'Ourea' // // Avenger: 'Athena' // // Retaliator: 'Ares' //
I hadn't really put too much thought into ship names. I used to have a list of names back when I played EVE so I'll probably just dig that back up. They weren't all super original, but whatever.
I've gone with a WWII aircraft style naming convention for my ships. So far I have "Birmingham Belle" for my Freelancer and "Gypsy Fish" for my Aurora. Around the Verse
- Pete did an original commodities list a long time ago, going back to that now, doing a second pass on that. Working out the Star Citizen periodic table of elements. Lots taken from the real world, reorganizing and regrouping it to make sense for gameplay. - Things like, ‘tier 1’ things – root commodities like Iron, Copper, etc… stuff you’d mine out of asteroid. - Those would be later combined into other things. tier 1 are the ‘raw materials’ of the economic simulator. - Down the road, you’ll be able to mine asteroids and see what Pete’s talking about.
Oh crap, so they aren't just copping out with some generic 'spaceirium' minerals. Not sure why I thought differently in the first place but it's nice to know. The economy of this game is going to be nuts.
Reverse the Verse hasn't even started yet and it's already off to a great start: [t]http://i.imgur.com/UDGxYjq.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/ykB3XNs.png[/t] "Question from the chat: If the Glaive is an Esperia replica, why does it have the glitchy Vanduul UI?" -Lando "Because shut up, that's why." -Ben (The ship was ready before the UI was so they just reused the Scythe UI until the proper Glaive HUD is ready.) "Thoughts on having a controller feedback subforum instead of a katamari?" -Lando "Yeah, because I really want to have that conversation..." -Ben
I don't think anybody has anything to worry about when it comes to scale. [vid]https://dl-web.dropbox.com/get/Public/1439593229559.webm?_subject_uid=15133164&w=AAD92CZhgzJSn4H2Sfzusb1mX-FoISu1k--XnfhSwfwcAg[/vid]
I think the distances are listed as such to preserve the scale of the small things. I think that's fine. [editline]14th August 2015[/editline] It's going to fuck up the people who take the game at face value of "ultra future space simulator" though.
gameplay wise, the 2000km distance serves the exact same purpose as 2000Mm, in that it's completely impractical to fly normally, and things have the feeling of being super far away increasing it would be more realistic, but the major downside would be the actual travel time would be much more boring, since you're 1000x less likely to see planets, moons and other features whiz past like they do in the demo [editline]15th August 2015[/editline] take ksp for example, due to the distances, you rarely see ANYTHING other than your origin and destination when transferring from planet to planet
i dont think i'm one of those people, but my ksp experience really has ruined my amateur notions of how space works in general. i can't look at that stuff and not feel a bit :disgust: about it. i'm not gonna say it's LITERALLY UNPLAYABLE!!, but it'd be a pretty nice touch if they got around to change it.
Ironically, KSP also gives the wrong notion of size to the vast majority of its players, many of which are like 14 years old.
