Shang Tsung is a bit weird though, I wonder how they'll explain him returning.
I was convinced he'd be one of the characters not returning...

I know he is one of the most iconic villains in the series, but he is by far the weirdest returning character imo.
I look back at the MK games I spent hours upon hours playing when I was young.. and I realise
holy shit these games were just awful.
And I don't regret a thing.

Really, only the 3D games were bad. The only 2D game of questionable quality was MK3 (the original, Ultimate MK3 was okay).

You don't have an issue with Kung Lao but Shang Tsung is "weird"?
I'd say all bets are off on anyone staying dead or alive by the end of the game, especially as it takes place over thirty years time.

Kung Lao could be justified with someone like Quan Chi or even Fujin bringing him back to life, same goes for Kitana.
But Shang Tsung's soul was taken and put into Sindel. I know no one really dies in MK, but he just seems likeone of the least likely characters that would return imo.

Keep in mind, the souls that are absorbed into people arent destroyed, they're still there.
For example: After Shang Tsung died at the end of MK: Deadly Alliance/beginning FMV of Deception, Liu Kangs soul, which he explicitly absorbed in DA, escaped and was walking around.
