I had my doubts until last month, I love him, even if most of the time I'm doing fuck all damage I love to get back all of my hp after getting ulted by an OD, or ult just right, trapping 2-3 enemies and leaving the teammate who got jumped on outside chrono

niche of aghs: squishy lineups, esp if they are hard for you to get to (sniper comes to mind) and you need to get it extremely fast. its not as good at sustained damage but sometimes u want the burst more than the sustained damage. people complain about aghs rush but if you really want aghs you have to get it really fast for it to be effective. it needs to pay for itself after quite a few ults?
if you go aghs though you have to go refresher pretty much. synergy between those 2 is really high. compliment with veil..... i think u skip lens if u get aghs idk. probably not
tldr: super niche, rarely worth but not completely unbuyable. gimicky
The problem I have with Aghs Zeus is that damage-wise, you lose ~30-40 per target affected compared to a Veil+Aether Lens combination, with about 300 gold more of investment.
Sure, Aghs might do more damage to those outside of the Veil's range, but Veil has a large effective radius, and the time it might be more effective than the Veil/Aether combo is if you're nuking some guy who, [I]for some reason[/I], isn't in the teamfight, which is hardly a reason to buy Agh's.
there are some heroes that are innately hard to get to and zap safely, even with lens
its also about more teamwide damage, its like adding lvl 3 lightning bolt to your ult, so can help when you dont want to sustain a fight, since it takes longer to cast 5 bolts across the enemy team
this is of course, only talking about super optimal aghs usage.

I am going to point out in that game I played my team had 2 sources of magic amplification.
Zeus bought a Veil of Discord and also there was the Ice Vortex spell.
That would probably help zeus out.

I think part of the reason my last few games were so lopsided is because there is hardly anyone on servers I am playing on.
Because of how few players there are I am guessing there is large skill gap between the players who are searching; so any match ends up being a stomp.

If a core element of your hero/playstyle is having more health than anyone else on the map than at least against certain lineups you could justify a blademail in situations where enemies cannot avoid doing damage to you and you intentionally put yourself in the middle of a fight (AoE fighters like Zeus, Leshrac, etc. would just have to stop casting spells for the duration)
as an item to just put on a checklist for offlane morph your points still stand
