I'm sorry but "We have to work :((((" is not a good excuse for a multi billion dollar company.
Except it is. When you paying for something once and you are expecting it to be supported forever you need to take into consideration that it have to be in some way profitable for the people who are maintaining it. Valve realized that many cosmetics keep fucking up with patches and it takes time to keep on fixing those. And you can't just stop updating dota because cosmetics break. And also you just can't take all the time for fixing cosmetics. I'm not saying just bend over and take it all the way up. I just want to understand why they do it.

The only difference between then and now is that reborn happened, and changing terrain became easier to the point of being a cosmetic. Does that justify selling a temporary cosmetic? I wouldn't mind if it was similar to Halloween cosmetics in TF2, where you can only use it on certain times of the month, as long as we get to keep the terrain item
Maps are probably are the hardest cosmetics to make. And although they have Source 2 I guess they still have to tweak maps to make them look good after patches. That is legit reason to make them expire since with each new map skin they will have to update them all. And after few compendiums they will have shitload of additional work to do. That is the most reasonable explanation for me of why they did that this way. If that is the case then I can sympathize with Valve but I still hate the approach and I won't buy compendium (maps and weather effects are the biggest reason I bought them in the past). However if it's "we don't want to make next compendiums seem to have less value since players will already have plenty of maps" or "we eventually run out of ideas for new maps" then absolutely no compassion for Valve.
Dota 2 reborn uses a tile system for its maps. Thats why its so easy for them to make new terrain. Its basically swapping some models and textures its not a new map.

Oh, so we have two people, one really likes deserts and is content with his desert terrain, the other really likes snow BUT TOO FUCKING BAD because he can only use it once a certain time (if what you're saying becomes real). This is bullshit. I just want my snowy map ffs

But yeah keeping it forever would be the best, but how will Valve sell it to us again next year?
tbh I was just saying that if a compromise is to be had between having the terrain expire after the event and keeping it, this is what I thought would happen. Leddit would go insane. But yeah, if they make the terrain permanent, I'm buying the compendium, it's literally the only thing I want.
We need no compromises ffs, terrains like these should NOT expire nor limited anyhow, this must be a rule knocked hard into valve's mind.
I just think it's stupid because we're allowed to have the snow weather year-round but we can't keep winter terrain. What if I feel like keeping my Christmas lights up all year, huh?
I still have a santa hat on my steam avatar. [editline]28th January 2016[/editline] I couldn't guess which hero this was.
I unboxed that Skywrath Set and at first I thought it was a set for Legion Commander.
I unboxed that Skywrath Set and at first I thought it was a set for Legion Commander.
Same. I also got an elder titan set that looks meh i'm not gonna bother to open it.
I unboxed that Skywrath Set and at first I thought it was a set for Legion Commander.
I don't remember Legion have fethered wings and chicken feet/hands. :v:

[editline]27th January 2016[/editline]
HOW
Beats me.
HOW
becuase when i saw the splash art image for this i thought it would be a courier not this over the top shit for rubick
i really thought this shit was a courier at first
I thought this set was really creative, but I don't understand why every butt fuck, weird ass, not really matching Rubick set has to get put into the game and always as a rare bonus in a chest.
I never knew Dota made into the PSone.
The person who took the screenshot had settings on minimum [editline]27th January 2016[/editline]
becuase when i saw the splash art image for this i thought it would be a courier not this over the top shit for rubick
So it didn't occur to you at all that it may have been a little bit too tall to be a courier?
I think some other neutral creeps got reworks too. The Black Dragons look different.
The person who took the screenshot had settings on minimum
That's the joke. [editline]27th January 2016[/editline]
I think some other neutral creeps got reworks too. The Black Dragons look different.
Again? They remodelled the Black Dragons some time ago.
Rubick's been getting a lot of beyond over the top sets lately.
I like the rubick set. And for whataever reason, at first it strike me as something you would see on league :boxhide:
At least his crusty toes are covered.
if u can only identify a hero by colors alone i cant imagine how u play dota i think the sets ugly in red and i dont like the rubick set but i cant see ever confusing them for anything else
I think the Rubick set is nice, but I am yet to see a Mask that looks better than the default one, even though they have better textures. The Skywrath set would have looked better in blue tbh, even if red is my favourite colour
The Skywrath set from that picture alone mad me think of LC at first glance, but ingame, I would totally be able to know that it's him since he moves completely different from LC. I mean the constant giant flapping wings alone is enough to tell that it's not LC.

Even when I find a mask I feel like I prefer to the original, after one game I just go back since it's really the thing that makes their visuals for me.
