He had a couple of stinkers while trying to entertain an audience for hours on end even though he didn't need to. He totally deserves to be fired because of that! /s
yeah basically
Then you must not have seen much of 2GD, he pretty much takes the piss out of everyone, including himself. Maybe he went a bit too far in that 1 case, but when you're going on for hours trying to fill a void that shouldn't exist, you might say some stuff that doesn't sound offensive to you, but can be offensive to others.
I think calling him an ass as your justification for firing him is kinda unwanted though. He's a nice guy and he's helped a lot in the history of esports.
Well if James is the only exception then it's not normal, and probably means it's not agreeable
Well if James is the only exception then it's not normal, and probably means it's not agreeable
You say that, but a lot of hosting gigs he's done have been regarded as some of the best. Remember him and Bruno in TI3? Apparently he's doing a good job or he wouldn't be popular.
A few hours ago I would have agreed, but 2GD said himself that his jokes were shit and i personally wanted to listen to someone else
I don't know if it's actually the case, but people on the panel seem a lot more timid than before. Maybe James was bringing it out of them or maybe they're just tired, I don't know, but I could definitely see people being a lot more careful when Valve literally just suddenly fires the production team and someone from the panel. Even then, it's just shooting yourself in the leg and not giving the people doing things wrong any chance of getting better. I can understand not hiring them in the future, but the fuck? It's not like they did anything explicitly offensive or anything. Maybe his humour was a little risque but then you tap him on the shoulder and tell him to do it the way you're more inclined, not tell the fucker to get out of there because they're fired.
Nothing has improved after what they did. Their reasoning for firing the people are poor and they really improved absolutely jack shit. That's not professional.
Holy shit that's even without mentioning the fact that Valve told James to put his statement "on ice", and while that's going on Gabe Newell goes on reddit and calls James an ass. How can you even justify that?
"With the wrong panelist in my opinion. Because well they want to put sheever on with me because she is ‘a girl’ (privately told why) and we are on" (ti4)
digital sports
Not sure what the fuck Valve's plan was here, I guess they felt like they were forced to respond with something due to the spam. Firing 2GD is fine and all but they should expect something to happen when it is so sudden and done to a person that has a history of being liked by the audience.
Everytime Blitz says anything negative he immediately apologizes. I wonder if Valve have warned every personality to tow the line or get fired. :tinfoil:

Probably not, but after a large chunk of the stuff is fired outta nowhere I'd be a lot more careful about what I say too :v:

That's stupid, there's a difference between saying something negative and being downright offensive.

He's always done that
Honestly everyone's overreacting over a commentator who brought nothing to the dota side of the commentary
Just for firing the host and production team (even though they were awful) during the tournament is pretty fucking unprofessional.
If shuts being done wrong, you fire them. It's not unprofessional if they're replaceable.

Not while the stream is going on. Not that we lost that much, but there was a long chunk without panels or, really, anything and even now there are still problems popping up. How they did it wasn't the best way, I just don't see any good enough justifications for it to happen how it did.

Production was fired post day 2 to my understanding.
If ice frog him self asked James to be James
Then he didn't do anything wrong
This lies on valve an their god awful communication
He got 1 warning about a joke he did which he did for his fans
Then next day you get told your fired by a iPhone email by your friend
And yes other sports like football and basket ball have commentators like James
This major just seems like an absolute waste the panel seems like they lack energy now and are afraid to step on any toes
If you ask to keep things private then don't go and insult them on reddit
This could have had massive negative repercussions for him not only as a host but his other ventures in the gaming industry as well
And I'm glad he put this out their calling out some of valves bs like that signature crap

The flat organisational structure worked when Valve was relatively young and small and didn't have a whole bunch of projects to manage. That era ended when Steam became the overwhelming leader in digital game sales, and the lack of any hierarchical structure is really screwing them.
Better let Richard choker and Thorin xd bantz run events, violence is always a-ok but talk about anything sexual it's a nono
james is not a good writer
my two cents on this: Although James is sometimes an ass on camera, it's what makes him him. It's part of his online personality. while some things might be debatable like appropriate content live (remembering china is strict af about everything), the biggest problem IMO was having KeyTV run the show. The quality of streaming was horrendous, there were so many technical issues because they never checked equipment properly, and due to the downtime, It was forcing hosts to basically improvise while keeping the audience entertained for two hours of consistent down-time.
tl;dr - James is an ass, but shouldn't have been let go. KeyTV fucked this Major over severely and (not so) Perfect World+Valve need to get shit together better.
Another issue that was addressed upon was having Bonnie being the sole translator between Valve and KeyTV staff, trying to organise equipment labelled in English, with staff that had ZERO knowledge in English language and the language barrier that ensued.
Hopefully the EU Hubs remain independant so he can stick around for those. He's gold when it comes to casual events
When you are told to come in with 15 minutes of material but have to streach it out to 2hrs due to gross incompetence you get frustrated and snarkey
Heres the deal Icefrog, the head honcho of dota 2 and a valve employee tol yames to be yames so james did james things and james has worked with valve before they know what he is like and unless james had doctored that conversation then he is not to be wronged for the way he acted and hosted because a valve employee ok'd it and due to their lax communication; james was not told otherwise

Dear god, that picture of Void is old.
I'm about as disgusted at Valve over that signature shit at TI2 than this drama with James at the major. Holy shit. And he saw this and went out of his way to say "No, everyone is getting paid." James is a fucking saint.
I'm hoping that this won't hurt James' reputation and later jobs

He is a good caster but as history has shown, he can be an ass.
Doesn't mean I don't like the guy, but I wouldn't call him a saint.
