This mess of a Major isn't completely Valve's fault. After the Frankfurt major being well done, and likely with Valve being very hands off with it (As they seem to be trying to do with literally everything) they thought they could do it again in Shanghai. They were very clearly wrong. Something you have to know about Chinese contractors and vendors is they will lie. About everything. I have no idea what the deal is, but they will fudge numbers, and cut corners till your square is a circle. Its like the culture there is to just trying to screw over the next guy. It is actually so bad that its common practice for construction and oil companies here in Canada to flat out request that no Chinese (Or India) steel or manufacturers be used because the manufactures will "adjust" the material reports of the steel, as well they will not report any structural fractures or hairline cracks. I guess what I am trying to say is that, in my experience, you cannot work hands off with Chinese contractors, and its super likely that is what Valve did. And they got lied to about probably just about everything. Which is probably why you are seeing the VIP rooms having nothing but like 8 chairs in them. I am sure Valve also trusted the db reports for those sound proof booths too. Its really frustrating dealing with Chinese vendors when you know they are going to do these things. I can only imagine Valve, dealing with this sort of scale of event for the first time in China, didn't know what they were getting into. Gabe, and Valve as a whole probably recognized that things weren't all good once the event started. If I were to bet, that is probably why Gabe fired the production crew. And in probably a bit of rage over the lack of any quality, I think James was the straw that broke the camels back. Which is unfortunate because I have a feeling that on pride he will probably never be hired back. On that note. James was unprofessional and sometimes rude. But what he brought was a bit of grounding. He reflected the culture of Dota; how players actually talk to each other and poke fun at each other. Sometimes he'd take it to far though, hes not without fault. But Dota isn't sports. Its a video game. We cannot hold it to "professional" standards without losing most, if not everything that makes competitive online video games what they are. Anyways, that is my two cents. Regardless if I am right or (Probably) wrong about any of this, the whole major is super unfortunate and I really feel bad for all the supporters, the viewers, and most of all, the players. What a mess. I hope they avoid China for the next Major in that region, it is just not worth it. Now, back to the streams!
Now, back to the streams!
Nope :smug:
Nope :smug:
f-fuck... That timing.
Day 1 of the Major finally finished; Day 2 starts in 7 hours
jesus

Now, back to the streams!
This is exactly what I was afraid of with having a major tournament in China. Either you do everything yourself and keep a close eye on everything or all of the people you're paying to do stuff do it half-assed and take the money and run.
I get that Valve doesn't want to the League of Legends style iron controlling fist of all their major tournaments, but it sounds like no one from Valve is even on fucking site and Bonnie is the sole person there for anyone who only speaks English, which is just downright shitty. We know that's not true too because at least Bruno is there, he had to deliver the firing news to James, but they don't have anyone there who has any idea how to try to improve the situation for anyone. It seems like everyone but the Russian crew is running around with their hair on fire since the group stages, and I only mention the Russian crew because they have their own people to work with.
jesus
man i'm sure the production will be better with the team getting about 5 hours of sleep
I think this a good wake up call for Valve. Their Ivory Tower has finally come crashing down, forcing them back to reality and to learn an age old lesson: you can't have a cake and eat it too. They are trying to "host" an absolutely massive event without ever actually hosting it in the first place. For a company known for their "wheeled-desks"-policy, they sure seem to have a hard time moving on with the times. Valve is no longer Gabe's little game workshop. Hell, they don't even seem to actually make games anymore. So why can't they hire people other than developers? They did hire a god damn hat-economist for Steam, so why can't they hire staff that handles these events? Staff that is trained to handle events like this instead of making dicks in 3DSMAX.
there is event staff right from valve. remember ali, who james talked about? he's there, but theres only so much you can say or do to literally change the whole work culture of your employees.

If I could make a change into the game, it would so jungle creeps had freepathing into cliffs
I swear to god if this poor management happens to the next major im not gonna pay for anymore compendiums ever.
I swear to god if this poor management happens to the next major im not gonna pay for anymore compendiums ever.
Just let Russia do it. No problems ever.
https://twitter.com/v1lat/status/705183216920104961 my guess archon, CDEC and VG
I think Aghs void with a strong lineup is a good way to counter this dumb meta of 5 man group up early and push at x mins
Edit: I'm confused, when are the games supposed to start :v:?
Just let Russia do it. No problems ever.
Dunno why, but I imagined a player's keyboard getting stolen, and not long after being return by the thief, who's now beaten up and forced to apology by a group of angry russian dota fans :v: [editline]2nd March 2016[/editline]
I think Aghs void with a strong lineup is a good way to counter this dumb meta of 5 man group up early and push at x mins
Meh, sounds like you want to counter deathball with more deathball :v: but yeah void is good as long as you got someone like skywrath/jakiro/windrunner, or another ranged right clicker.
Wouldn't Russia be super cold in the winter? Maybe shift the winter major to SEA and give Russia the spring one? [editline]2nd March 2016[/editline] better yet, go with Australia and have 2 summer majors
annnnnddd the english stream is already offline
its funny because if you go to past broadcasts on twitch for the channel, you can see every time the stream died [editline]2nd March 2016[/editline] oh, this is why:
They're playing a video about the production crew. lmfao
OG v Secret starting right now. Only 45 minutes behind schedule.
I love it when they pick on Winter.
Waifu ranger pick, this got my interest.
I just played a game of Bristleback. I feel like I did the best I could, but it was my team who made me loose. Does it seem like that from what is here? Was there anything I could have done better? I repeatedly told Zeus to use his second skill to check for mines when we were pushing the tower, and he never did (he understood English). I told them to buy blue wards, and they didn't buy any past 30 minutes into the game. I couldn't buy because I had zero free space in my items.
Even the in-game broadcast is fucked :v:
Holy fuck OG. Moon one exp from level six though. :(
This is some good doto
One of the biggest throws in history commenced by Secret in game 3. [sp]They crushed OG, but w33 called GG first. OG honored the defeat tho[/sp]
One of the biggest throws in history commenced by Secret in game 3. [sp]They crushed OG, but w33 called GG first. OG honored the defeat tho[/sp]
It was cause an OG player only called 'g', it wasn't a BM gg from w33ha.
