They should do some Pre-war DLC, though it might feel like a re-hash of Anchorage, but this time do it Via the memory den so it is a memory instead of a simulation.
There's enough pre-war stuff already with the pre-war player and all the pre-war ghouls and whatnot.
From what Todd has said it sounds like the first expansion/dlc will be really big. I'm hoping they do a full fledged map expansion, like actually extend the main map westwards and let us go over the hills behind sanctuary and into the valley behind it, would make a cozy expansion location.
Here's hoping they're not just weird crap like Mothership Zeta
maybe we'll get some quests that don't involve shooting everything
like that one time during the USS Constitution quest where you were able to use your SPECIAL skills to repair stuff instead of going out and shooting stuff to acquire the parts

[sp]And at the end you had to participate in a fight anyway[/sp], regardless of what you chose.
I hope there will be a character knowlege mod. Something that obscures the names of things until you learn about them or ask someone about them. It is probably impossible, but I hate how as soon as you come out of the vault, in sanctuary, you see a caps stash and immediately know to go for it because it is a "caps stash". Similarly I can't count how many times I have gone up to someone and said their name without me actually remembering having met them.
Someone is going to have to pour through the voice files of both the actors in order to build a lexicon of words to cut and paste with. If done right you can fake some short sentences. Something like: "Mutfruit, what's that?" "Caps?" etc.
Game missed a huge opportunity with having a pre war protag, especially a voiced one. I wish we got to experience the world more through the eyes of someone who has never seen most of this shit, I know I would personally flip a shit if I was used to cows and then I find a Brahmin while exploring the new world.
You know what I would've wanted more of? Quips about the places you visit, implying the protagonist has been there before pre-war.
"Never did return that book, did I? Guess I don't have to worry about that now."
"Such a shame to see Hubris like this. Used to come here every week as a kid."
"I used to go to this school! Did they really have [sp]a vault[/sp] beneath it this whole time?"
"Corvega plant huh? Maybe there's one in here that still works... Probably not, that'd be crazy."
"This is the place we bought Codsworth. Really gave us a pitch... Glad I went for it now."
And some companions would chime in as well, like Codsworth thanking the protag for his or her purchase in that last one.

The voice acting has really made it difficult to add to the game without having those exact people. I hope bethesda releases dialogue packs with every DLC or something like that.

People already complain that the game forces a character on you, this would just cause a civil war at this point.
One of the DLCs will be a simulation of that one supposed battle on the moon, calling it now.
"Operation Zeta"

If they're going to have a pre-characterized, voiced protagonist anyway, I don't see how the implication of "hey, I existed before all this shit happened" would be a problem.
If anything it would make more sense, and give him/her a bit more charm.
The talk of minigun sound replacing got me to do this earlier today. I also replaced the power armor sprint stomps.
Audio is from Killing Floor 2 - patriarch's mechanical leg sounds and his minigun.

here's my current melee character (note: i don't have a chest piece visible due to a mod that allows you to hide certain pieces of armor http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/6434/? )

Oh my god but how dope would it be if they went Shattered Horizon with the new gunplay
maybe not zero-g space station assaults, but I for one would love to see the retro-futurist lunar space suits, fighter ships, and weaponry. don't forget that with the new engine we can finally sprint and jump now as well as jump'n'shoot whenever we want.

i mean look at this smug motherfucker blasting Commies into the cold void
The character design is sitting somewhere weird between the usual blank slate formula and the more character-centric writing of games like mass effect and the witcher.
The start of the story was originally planned to only allow for a male protagonist as shown in the artbook. Your wife was pregnant and the pipboy wasn't found on a corpse but instead a keepsake from your time in the army. They clearly changed the story to allow for both genders to be picked, but it left some odd stains like the male background making more sense in context than the female background (I honestly don't understand why the woman couldn't have been in the army as a mechanic or something).
By the end it creates this weird situation where they wanted to make something drastically different from the originals but had to restrain themselves in a lot of ways so that people who didn't want that kind of story wouldn't get disappointed, and it ended up still disappointing them.

Also all Bethesda games are missed opportunity: the game if you look at them this way. With that kind of scope you have to cut down on content to release the game within an acceptable time frame.
they had three fucking years and didn't do what obsidian did in eighteen months
had to cut down on content for time my ass

Those stomps sound amazing. Maybe replace the default power armor footsteps with a muffled version of that too?

Sure. Here's a link to the file on my dropbox.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/j9m9lizhmdbubzf/JorkMinigunSprint.zip?dl=0
Hopefully that works, haven't used dropbox in like 2 years :v:
Just throw the Data folder in the .zip into the one in your Steamapps/common/fallout 4 directory and it should work.
Seriously though, consider working on a complete "heavy" power armor soundpack.
Would make the stuff feel REALLY empowering to use, and more intimidating to fight against.

Agreed, I absolutely love the sounds the Patriarch's mechanical leg makes in KF2.
Sadly there's a million different sounds for the power armor and there's a limited amount of stomp sounds he makes so I don't have much source audio to work from. If my ears pick up on any other sexy sounding mechanical stomps I'll work on a full convert.
My audio editing skills are pretty rubbish so I don't think I could do a good muffle.
You can always do the old PS1 era cheat of using the same sound but slightly pitching up or down, muffling it or making it faster or slower.
There are some games that sound like they have a dozen footstep noises but it's just the same two or three processed a few different ways.

That's true, I may mess around with it some more when I get some free time off work next week.
I'll post back if I come up with anything decent.

Would at least give them an excuse for having no choices whatsoever, I guess!
What was that console command that allowed you to make any settler run a supply line again? I'd rather like to make Marcy Long bugger off out of sanctuary.
Has anyone had this bug where gibs get stuck in the players body? I cant crouch and sneak around without the gibs obstructing half of my view.

Did you fall in the vat of molten steel inside Saugus Ironworks with god mode on? That's usually the cause of this.
Try typing
player.unequipitem 1E22E5
into the console and see if that fixes it.

Thats a very specific cause yet its exactly what I did. Thanks!

did u really just compare the PC protagonist of fallout 4 to the witcher

are you deliberately taking that out of context or something? he isn't wrong when he says it is a more character focused rpg like the witcher. he wasn't saying anything about the quality, only the style
People already complain that the game forces a character on you, this would just cause a civil war at this point.
The character is already forced and people who dislike this kind of stuff are already displeased. If they're travelling this road already, might as well go all the way
Doing the voiced protagonist schtick with a defined background but not using it fully for the few good points it adds is a lazy alternative that displeases both who didn't wanted any of this shit and those who liked it but felt it was lacking because the character has some personality but his personality is as deep as a pond.
Using myself as an example, i don't like the voiced protagonist, i don't like his backstory and i would rather have the protagonists like they were in the older games. But they're this way in F4 and there's nothing i can do about it. So if you're giving him a voice whether i like it or not you might as well make him use it and comment about stuff in a meaningful way so the personality you wanted me so much to play regardless will at least be justified.
