I tried to start playing FO4 again
just got bored from forgetting what I was doing weeks ago and I cba to start a new game because that would require me to do the railroad shit again just to get the [sp]ballistic weave[/sp] and shit.
I feel like locking anything behind doing stuff for a faction was a shitty gameplay choice unless it specifically relates to that factions. For example: what if I think the railroad is fucking dumb and I don't want to do shit for them? Then I'll never even know the [sp]ballistic weave[/sp] is there and I'll have to live without it until another playthrough or a wiki page gets read or something. Like maybe if it's a weapon attachment that does more damage toward institute scientists or something, I can understand that, but something like [sp]ballistic weave[/sp]? That's dumb.
I bet the only reason they gave [sp]Ballistic weave[/sp] to the Railroad was because the Railroad was added last second to get a 4th faction in there and they wanted to add something that would let the railroad have some use.
[sp]does anyone else always shoot Father or...?[/sp]

Kinda makes me wish the player got splattered with blood if you fought up close like in dragon age.

Slightly related, I had no idea that [sp]Liberty Prime[/sp] was in Fo4 untill after clocking over 240 hours and finally allowing myself to read the wiki.

I don't think so, the seeds for the Railroad were planted way back in Fallout 3

Yes the railroad is a thing in Fallout 3. But tell me a reason why the Railroad story is just working with the Institute for most of it that isn't because they were a last minute addition.
Wow I totally forgot about that subplot in FO3 that involved synths. Railroad and everything.
Not referred to as synths, per se, but in retrospect that's EXACTLY what they were.
X-Cell. It's rare but it's also super addictive, I'm pretty sure there's a guaranteed sample in Sanctuary.
I think Day Tripper and a few others count as their own addictions as well.
One on the BoS airship too.

Zimmer is referenced as being out catching a runaway synth at the time of fallout 4 so I guess me killing him every time I play falluot 3 isn't canon
that or he just never returned from the capital wasteland

[sp]Computers in the SRB mention Dr. Zimmer is the head of the SRB[/sp]
So, is anyone else getting HORRENDOUSLY bad load times and texture pop-in with the update?
Neither of which were ever a problem for me but all of a sudden every interior takes about a minute to load.

Spent like four whole minutes staring at this low-res smirk while fast traveling from university point back to red rocket. This is unacceptable.
I think the best thing they could do is set it up like you're going to meet them, and that's one of the main points in the DLC, finding the Lone Wanderer, thought to be dead but rumored to be alive. Ultimately, you never do meet them, instead it's hinted that one of the various NPCs you meet (people who are quest relevant that have vague recollections of the character) may have been the real Lone Wanderer. Keep it all mysterious
I love this idea sooooo much. This is an excellent way to handle it.
Never have the previous PC show up as an NPC. It's really shitty and usually that N(PC) is not anywhere near what you had them played as.
Okay so, the beta is bordering on unplayable for me. Can I opt out and it'll revert my game? Or would I have to re-download everything?
I sell power armor and power armor accessories:

Seriously though, I think I've gotten every frame that can be found in the world. Including the unoccupied ones from the Prydwen, Atom Cats Garage, and even qasmoke. 50 power armor frames, not a single one bought.
so I'm using a mod to allow me to have multiple followers and nick said "damn, you got any stims? dogmeat's hurt"
which tells me that they originally planned to allow multiple companions, and even got as far as the voice acting and scripting stage, and then at the last minute decided "lol nah" and scrapped that feature

He uses that line in the part of the story where you and Nick are following him, if Dogmeat is taken out of commission by the wildlife.
I guess it triggers if you have them both present in a similar scenario too.

Also If you check the list of what companions like and dislike. A lot of the good characters like when you heal Dogmeat. How often are you around other companions when Dogmeat is hurt?
Something tells me they were gonna make it so you could always have dogmeat + 1 other follower but said nah.
Wasn't FO3 like that too? You could have dogmeat + another follower.

And New Vegas, it was one humanoid and one non-humanoid companion.

I also have really, really horrible load times with the beta patch. Usually when I load my first save
Any mods out there that remove dynamic lighting yet? The way their engine handles it is horrible and prevents me from "enjoying" the game at a smooth 60fps.
Don't know what makes you think the NCR ending is canon. No one's mentioned hide nor hair of that game since the last DLC.
Meeting a blank state - non defined playable character from a previous game in person and interacting with him/her is bound for disaster
Which is why i don't rule out the possibility of Betheda doing it
They could do a Dragon Age:Inquisition thing where you go into a sudden character creator and make the Lone Wanderer.
I'd rather have them not mention the LW at all, to be honest.
Without save importing (which would have been a mess given the switch in console generations) it would have been impossible to mention the lone wanderer at all without breaking the continuity for a good portion of the player base.
[editline]16th January 2016[/editline]
they should just not have the lone wanderer appear in person in anything story related other than a few mentionings, like in previous games to the other main protagonists.
Even mentioning him is a tough call because depending on your actions throughout Fallout 3, the LW is either the most hated motherfucker in the Capital Wasteland or one of its most beloved figures. A neutral mention wouldn't fit the character and any favorable or unfavorable mention would break the continuity for some players.
pretty much all games had a "canon" version of the previous protagonists before, that's why we have the outcomes of the stories like they're now.
Only Fallout 2, actually - and that only includes the vault dweller being male, and having helped out Shady Sands.
New Vegas has no canon ending. Fallout 4 makes little to no mention of the events in the Mojave (for lack of anyone in the Commonwealth actually giving two shits about what happened on the other side of the continent), and what little mentions are made aren't enough to draw conclusions on any canon ending.
I still like the idea of "You know, you already met the lone wanderer at some point. Wonder who they were."
If they HAD to include a direct mention of them, honestly I think that's the best way they could do it. Depending on what YOURS was like, you'd assume it was someone different than another player would.

also no save importing please lol, that sounds like something straight out of mass effect
The Witcher 2 and 3 also had save importing. It only had a minor effect on the games (especially since 3 lets you pick choices from 2 if you don't import), but it was there and it was neat to see some of your choices reflect on minor conversations and character appearances.
Also AC Brotherhood had a neat save import feature where it would bring in all your money and assets from AC 2 and then promptly burn it all, forcing you to start from scratch anyway.
