because we do, really
You have to understand the last few years only the most dedicated players have been playing. Then all the sudden we all show up. However that Thuggin guy was just being a kung fu shitlord, the kind who thinks anyone who uses guns suck.
Don't know why they don't enjoy the free kills
Xypher has been playing since I can remember (2002 or so?)
I love how our grand term for people bhopping and wrecking others with kung-fu is 'kung-fu shitlord', it's hilarious for some reason.
But yeah, sometimes it feels like the kung-fu users are almost akin to K-Style in Gunz, where using guns and not kung-fuing apparently makes you a horrible human being that needs to be dragged into the street and shot.

:(
It makes me so sad to load up The Specialists and see exactly 0 people playing...jeez I remember the days years ago when there were always multitude of players on. All I want to do is deathmatch and there's not even any zombie servers or bots to play with :( . This game is really good, I wish more people still played it...
just play with us when we do
aka later today
Yeah I usually play from 6:00pm EST until I go to bed
just play with us when we do

I live in Japan so it's hard to play with you guys :(
I wish Shadowplay worked for this, it would be a whole lot convenient.
Looks like I'm going to blow the dust out of Dxtory or something and get recording.
Ahhh The Specialists... Without a doubt the best multiplayer shooter and the most fun I have ever had on a game. I spent thousands of hours playing this.. literally. And I don't regret it one bit.
That being said, the game is nearly a decade past its prime and I last played TS back in 2007. I probably won't be coming back to it but I'm glad you guys are having fun though, enjoy it. :D
Ts_lobby is such a cool map. Someone should remake it for source.
Ts_lobby is such a cool map. Someone should remake it for source.
I don't like the lobby itself really
Ts_lobby is such a cool map. Someone should remake it for source.
Double Action Boogaloo has the rooftops map which is basicly the top section of lobby, I'll go get some screenshots of it.

Eh, tried that game and it just didn't "feel" right
Eh, tried that game and it just didn't "feel" right
It has a lot of work and polish to go before it can be considered a true successor to The Specialists, much less as a proper and complete mod by itself.
It's less Matrix and more John Woo in general. Not too keen on the "classes" if I'm honest.
The thing is, is there much point in working on a mod for however long, only for it to go dead because no one is playing it after a few months? NeoTokyo is a victim of this problem.
The difference a good server makes.
i love playing goldsrc games like team fortress classic and day of defeat solely because the communities in them are so well-knit that it's mostly just a group of highly skilled friends that get kind of lonely and are more than happy to play with new people
then you go on to the specialists and the eight remaining original people are the worlds biggest assholes. like what does that even achieve?
i remember the mod hostile intent being probably THE best half-life mod out there. it had tons of really well-made maps (in terms of navigation and objectives) and had solid gameplay mechanics that I wish people remade today. The biggest issue with the game was that you could dolphin dive and iron sight up which made it impossible to hit you PLUS you could amp up the footstep sounds and hear players clear across the map which in turn made attacking an objective almost impossible since someone would camp it and destroy you with a grenade
the original players killed off that mod not because they were essentially cheating, though. they killed it off because they were the largest group of douchebags i've ever had the displeasure of playing with. everyone thought they were god's gift which is hilarious since most of them were still in grade school
Just played and the only active server is this weird RP server? Is this what you guys are playing?
I still want to be major cool guy, but literally everyone wants to do nothing in there.
i got on last night too and the only active server was that roleplay server too. just gordons running around telling you to go away when you get too close to them
where's the fun in that? it doesn't help that there's no instruction in how to do anything so you just run around shitting your pants because nobody will tell you the commands to do anything
and christian bale 7/11 clerk is everywhere watching you

The reason these games have such toxic communities is a combination of factors which all equal up to it.
1. The game can be run by a toaster, meaning every single kid ever, even in school, can pull it up and play it pretty much at full effectiveness.
2. The game is a mod so by nature it's free, even if it requires half-life, but that was also pretty cheap, affordable on a grade-schooler's general intake of allowance / money gotten from selling candy at school or something.
3. It has a high skill roof that doesn't require alot of thinking, only a lot of muscle memory, energy, and twitchiness, which invites kids especially (since they love that kind of stuff, just look at COD) to get gud quik and then yell at everyone because they believe that they're superior for being good at video games.
4. Sometimes people literally can't afford to 'graduate' to any further games thanks to how they are using a toaster, and they have no money. (I knew a guy like this, he was among best at kung-fu in the game in it's glory days and even ran one of those pretentious MLG kung-fu only duel clans, he got crazy good at the game and stuck with it even years after its downfall simply because his family couldn't afford to get him a better computer, or even other games, and he couldn't/wouldn't work himself.)
Oddly enough, I actually loved the TS-RP servers in that city map... breaking through the window in the pizza kitchen to grab the Katana.... Classic.
Yeah I've been checking the serverlist every once in a few hours and I have not once seen anyone play on a non-rp server

Found this old picture on my hard-drive.
We were doing a show of force to the resident government jackboots (the guys in spacesuits not the nazi's). There was a lot of blood after this picture was taken.

Whoa is this what the roleplay server is like? Absolutely rivetting!
Man, I used to fucking love this mod.
I had no idea how to play and I died every time I tried to karate chop someone, but I loved it.

I don't think my internet connection will be any good but I sure as hell want to try this out again.

Haha, if I recall correctly we were silently staring at each other and sizing everyone up.

No?
I'm sure most people who still play this are way graduated college, such at myself. It's not about having a shitty computer or no money, it's the people who like the game more than any modern game. Such as myself. I'm in my later 20's, so when this game came out in 2002 or whatever I was 15 or 16, in the prime of my gaming. There's a lot of nostalgia, there's a lot of elitism because you KNOW you were here when it mattered, when there was no COD or other shit (hipster warning). Comparing this game to CoD is actually pretty insane. Even the noobiest noobs of CoD can kill of a bunch of pros and shit, but TS is unforgiving. Your raw skill is what matters. Not just raw twitch reflexes, but your spacial awareness, map knowledge, and tactical handling of situations. Saying it doesn't involve thinking doesn't even make sense. Think of it as Super Smash Brothers Melee of the FPS world. Kung Fu shitlords can be compared to wavedash shitlords. Because of these expert aspects of the game, it lives on. It gives you something to work towards in which you will improve over years. DECADES in this game. And to me, that makes a great game. I don't mind getting my ass handed to me, with the people being like "well I'm the TS god you plebs suck" because really, as much of an ass they are for saying that, it's true. They EARNED that. I would like them to be nicer about it but really, they have invested a ton into the game and that's why they are good, not because they have child-like twitch reflexes.

Honestly, I find it sort of fun when there are 1 or 2 vets in the games. It gives you the "OH SHIT ITS HIM AGAIN MAYBE I CAN KILL HIM" moments. You have to embrace it and have fun

When there's more than 1 of these guys I abandon all hope and just pull out a M60E3 and go chill somewhere.
also, remember to enter "default_fov 92" (or whatever FOV you want)
makes close quarters combat way easier
also, remember to enter "default_fov 92" (or whatever FOV you want)

I put that in an autoexec.cfg, because the game refused to save my default_fov 100 inputs inbetween sessions. I just got a 16:9 monitor over a week ago, so having it stuck to 80 was giving me tunnel vision.
