Moon shield
since none of the people on my friend list own this game, is anyone here up for a few battles?
So uhhh what the hell builds tech 2 factories? I can build a tech 2 land factory with my tech 1 fabs of course, but the tech 2 fabs can't build any tech 2 factories??? [editline]6th July 2014[/editline] Oh land fabs make tech 2 land facs, and air fabs air facs...that's kinda dumb.

It took hundreds of avenger and orbital death laser to get a teleporter down. They need to add in the break through weapons and units. The unit cannon is supposed to be the counter to these things, but they've yet to make it
Fuck no it's already in great shape, the frequent updates and how so much is already planned is a really good sign. The latest performance update made it playable on my shit-tier school laptop too.
Oh, that's nice. It ran kinda wonky some time ago on my PC, and even though its not that powerful, a game like this shouldn't run like it used to. I hope this game gets somewhat big. I quite like it.
Why is it that even when playing Galactic War, you need an internet connection? I want to play offline dammit..
Why is it that even when playing Galactic War, you need an internet connection?
cause it's still using a internet server while it's in EA they want to have control of the servers once it's actually released, then it'll be offline ready
So when I play against bots, the server does the AI and misc calculations on its end? Anyone know if this means that hardware is irrelevant in having matches with thousands of units?
So when I play against bots, the server does the AI and misc calculations on its end? Anyone know if this means that hardware is irrelevant in having matches with thousands of units?
it's obviously not completely irrelevant but yes, having the serverside stuff helps a lot

You still need to be able to run the game well enough to render thousands of units, but I've noticed that my framerate will be just fine even though the game is slowed down and laggy due to the number of units.

If it isn't...that's a bit troublesome.
I lost interest because of this server crap, 1 second in game took around 30 secs real time so I gave up.
Why are typical Terrestrial water-land planets so hilariously rare in the system generator?
The meta in a system with a lot of planets right now consists of controlling an entire planet and setting it up to produce metal, going into space IMMEDIATELY and spamming solar panels and then setting up like 20 orbital factories with 20 or so orbital fabbers attached to them and having it pump out avengers and deathrays. [editline]7th July 2014[/editline] On another note when you send 700 avengers to a planet they all clip into each other when they hit orbit leaving the funny image of what looks like 1 space fighter when in reality its 700 of them.
Why is it that even when playing Galactic War, you need an internet connection? Ofcourse if the servers sucked like Simcity 4 it would be a completely different situation. [editline]8th July 2014[/editline]
So when I play against bots, the server does the AI and misc calculations on its end? Anyone know if this means that hardware is irrelevant in having matches with thousands of units?
Pretty much, the obligatory school laptops of Norway for 2012 aren't exactly gaming pcs for obvious reasons, but this game doesn't get a bad framerate with a shitton of units on several planets. It's only when I start looking at said units the framerate drops.
I feel like they are trying to go too big in this game. The giant planets + complex solar systems create both a logistic and optimization nightmare. Colonizing and managing multiple massive planets takes its toll on strategy and fps. Not to mention the art style is going to hell because of it. They might as well have left units as sprites since you're never really close enough to notice 10 minutes in.
Played more and you guys were right. Its actually pretty manageable with camera hot-keys. I guess I'm just not used to RTS. Still having trouble transitioning to second tier stuff. At what point should you switch to new tech?

Also, as soon as you transition tiers, get tier 2 fabrication units and upgrade your economy buildings, because tier 2 production is a lot more expensive.
also if you don't have multiple factories up by 3-4 minutes, you're behind
Is it normal to be able to build advanced mass extractors over the normal ones and have both of them running at the same time?
Is it normal to be able to build advanced mass extractors over the normal ones and have both of them running at the same time?
Yes it's gives you an advantage over others. No it should be fixed.
What? I thought it was that they upgraded the mex to a t2 one?
What? I thought it was that they upgraded the mex to a t2 one?
yeah but if you stack t2 mex on t1 you get 28 metal per point, rather than 21 from a t2 by itself
I'm really not supposed to play Galactic War yet am I?
Sure seems like it. I've been trying to go through a campaign of my own, and all the tech I keep finding is efficiency upgrades for units I don't have. Seriously I have like 70% of the starmap and I still have just the default T1 vehicle units.
I'm really not supposed to play Galactic War yet am I?
It taught me how to get into the game, but the AI in it is way too weak for anything else. imo they should really give all the basic factories off the bat. T1 vehicles get the job done, but they're pretty limiting especially with enough shitty tech rolls.
New big update. http://steamcommunity.com/games/233250/announcements/detail/164697537453724099
Oh, and one more thing: watch out (or cackle with glee) whenever you make a new system in the editor. Planets that intersect in orbit now explode when they touch.
Now I want to make a system where after some time the starting planet collides, as a way to start a space race. Maybe even fuck up your opponents launch pad and prevent him from escaping certain doom.
fuck now all my systems i make are just gonna explode since im terrible at seeing if their orbits intersect
fuck now all my systems i make are just gonna explode since im terrible at seeing if their orbits intersect
If their orbits are eccentric and have intersecting orbits, make sure their orbital period is the exact same and they'll stay in sync (is there even a way to check that?).
So I just had a major moment of... thing. TL;DR I KNOW the other guy is on a moon prepping it to collide with my base planet, so I get all my builders to assist the orbital launcher. The goal is one all or nothing rush to build a portal so I can send my massed bot and tank army. It's tense, as the builders arrive he fires the engies... By a SHEER MIRACLE they end up right next to his engine cluster, In a mad panic I manage to link the gates and through it poured my metal legions. FUNFACT: if you destroy Hailey engines mid flight, the planet stops. I then proceeded to raze the planet. None survived.... but he won by sending a sneaky bomber wing to where I had just hidden my commander.
