It's coming """soon""" though. (which could be anywhere between today and the heat death of the universe)
Most of it is stability, IMO. Right now, you could probably just into the game and not be disappointed with what you could do (the main missing things are man cannons, but there's teleporters, so). It's just that the game's still always-online right now, with offline mode in a coming patch. There's also some optimizing left to do, which means you might want to hold off if your computer's not that great (hell, I've got a high-end comp and I still get slowdown late-game). And the AI's a bit wonky right now (as in bots, not the actual pathfinding or anything)
Other than that, it's all there. You can blow up planets, control death-stars, nuke the shit out of yourself etc.
Thank you for the information :)

To be fair, a lot of PA players have made a significant contribution to the heat death of the universe.

Your Avatar is one of the few on Facepunch I genuinely hate.
You monster.
On-topic: I've been waiting for offline play since I bought the damn game - I haven't been able to play. Won't matter as of Thursday though..
I imagine the lack off offline play is certainly putting a lot of people off - did they even change the description on the website? They told me they would.
Would you mind giving some insights on its shortcomings? I'm thinking about buying the game.
Negatives include...
- Offline mode is currently non-existent.
- The game is still somewhat optimized.
- Singleplayer is still somewhat lackluster.
- Disconnections from the server are fairly common, laggy gameplay with a lot of units on the field.
Positives include...
- The ability to annihilate your opposition with a plethora of units, structures and weapons.
- No unit cap
- Online warfare on a massive scale.
- The ability to destroy the enemy with celestial bodies and/or a makeshift death star.

I've noticed a bug that disallows you rebuilding on destroyed iron deposits, which is really annoying in cases where you can't expand far/you're stuck in a tight spot. If you have access to only 6 or so iron mines and the bug prevents you from rebuilding on 2 of those, it hurts quite a bit.
I've had a lot of fun so far after release.
I'm sad we don't have experimentals.
Unit launchers / large scale unit transport (other than teleporters) would be nice.
Overall, played 5 or 6 games over the past few days and I'm always excited to play more each day (unlike in beta).
DO NOT get this game unless you have at least 8 GB of RAM, 16 or more probably recommended and a fairly good video card. All the AI / simulation is on their server so it doesn't feel super processor heavy (but correct me if I'm wrong).
I love the game and have a lot of fun playing it but it still feels like something is missing. It would definitely benefit from another tech level or something.

I agree. But I feel like PA has such an amazing core engine / feature set / style that I'm just super excited for more content to come out.
Goddamnit, I just lost a 60 minute long 1v2 game (ally died) because I forgot that I had my commander chilling in an astraeus when the other guys launched a small group of avangers on my home planet, they just happened to appear almost right on top of him.
So annoying, especially after I managed to recover from them slamming a moon into my base, and had begun pouring units through a teleporter to their planet after conquering their orbital layer.
I hope they implement game settings like Supreme Commander.
The ability to turn on/off nukes, planet smashing, air, naval, ground, certain game enders, orbital.
Victory settings, ect.

Well, not exactly :v: the orbital radar can detect units orbiting other planets, and commanders in transports are clearly marked as such, so he most likely knew exactly what he was doing.

Like the annihilazer, because it's cool as hell but it doesn't have a cooldown at all.

The way the servers host the matches really makes up for it to me, when I tried to play the game without updating my drivers, I was able to complete a team match even with five crashes.
How moddable is this? Is it possible to eventually have a cool galactic war as opposed to the barebones that it is right now?
Someone should purchase me this game
The main thing they need to fix is the UI. Every single UI element takes like 2 seconds to respond and it feels really bad.
I'm still so bad at this. I've tried so many times to win a game. But I either have to have allies that are going to ensure my victory (but beat the enemy before I can do anything) or just go at it me and the enemy and get demolished every time.
I hate how hard this is.

I've had the exact opposite experience. I have never won a single match in any RTS while playing online. I always got completely and utterly destroyed within a few minutes.
Yesterday I played 4 matches of PA and won every single one of them with ease.
I am playing with AI though, I figured playing with humans would be incredibly hard but maybe if they're just as bad as me I could win one for once.

Did you play against Absurd AI?
If you regularly lose against Normal AI I wouldn't recommend playing online :v:

That's most likely a ram or driver issue, as there's no delay when the computer handles it properly.

Watch some tutorials for the startup phase, the best tip I found was to move the commander as little as possible, but make him build as much as possible. Dropping in the middle of metal deposits and planning the construction so the commander is contributing as much as possible is the best you can do.
I also keep a separate bot/vehicle factory for harrasing the enemy commander, when he's detected I'll set it's waypoint on him and loop bot or flame tank construction. That way the enemy is always slightly occupied, and once your primary factory has a few more units ready, send those in waves.
Tactics like those makes it pretty easy to gank commanders spawning on the same planet as you, which is pretty important for galactic war, and having your own planet is pretty important to win the match.
I love when I click on an "enemy commander spotted" notification my game screen turns this weird milky blue grey and I can't see anything except for the UI
[editline]10th September 2014[/editline]
Also how do you loop production? I bound the / key to it but when I hit it when selecting factories, or hold it while clicking a unit to build, it doesn't do anything

It's L
When mousing over the icon it shows what the hotkey is.
I always see people having the orbital fighters just roaming around the planet but I still don't know how to do it except for making each individual fighter do the patrol option and clicking places on the planet

Press F5 when that happens. Don't know why the hell it happens though.

You drag a circle covering the entire planet, I think you hold shift or use right click.

It showed as unbound when I went into the options menu to look at it.

Also if you select a factory and click the patrol command and drag it across the planet any new fighters that are built will follow that command

Yeah had that happen to me too, real annoying when you're deep into a game, I once got rid of it but I have no idea how.
Has something to do with the game having not yet loaded whatever is in the notification screen so your best bet to avoid that is to hover the mouse over the notification and wait for something to show up on the little screen.

New patch
It's been a few days since we hit 1.0, but we're still hard at work, adding polish, fixing bugs as we find em - or you in our community report them! Keep playing, keep reporting - on the forums, on Steam, on reddit - what's working, what you're loving, what you're not loving quite so much, and we'll keep making it better and more awesome.
Thanks all!
Build Notes:
AI: Fix for AIs that start on other planets by themselves not doing much. Improved how the AI determines it is alone on a planet. (should be much faster)
AI: AI neural net update.
AI: AI econ adjustment.
Client: Fix some texture size restrictions (e.g. the nuke scorch decal) to save approximately 300MB to 400MB of GPU memory (and a corresponding amount of CPU memory too).
Gameplay: Fix for start location generation getting into an infinite loop when there isn't enough pathable area on a planet.
Gameplay: Fix for radar structures never being active if they were built while the army's energy was stalled too far.
Gameplay: Fix for orbital units not being able to do certain area commands on gas giants.
Gameplay: Fix for trees and structures still visible after planet destroyed.
Localization: Lots of changes and additions to localization. If you want to help the community localization, please check out: http://www.getlocalization.com/PALocalization/
Memory: Limit CSG and planet textures to 1024x1024 maximum (saving up to 200MB of graphics memory and 200MB of system memory, or 400MB of memory on integrated graphics on a large game with multiple biomes).
UI: A number of fixes to startup flow; you shouldn't be able to skip past the Steam / PlayFab linking now, galactic war video will no long auto play, and a few others.
I'm liking the sound of those memory improvements and what I guess is an AI improvement:
AI: AI neural net update.
