I love this game, but the release was a mistake.
It wasn't a release as much as it was just a number. Even without huge experimentals, the unit cannon would've been all it needed. I know they keep saying it isn't a huge priority, but god damn, they just don't seem to understand how much of a trademark it was from the moment it was in the kickstarter trailer.
Yes, death stars and using planets as ammo is awesome, and very unique, but it's not common in games. But the unit cannon? When ISN'T it going to be useful? You can launch units from a moon to the planet it orbits!
My only rts experience was Company of Heroes and the Dawn of War series, and i have always been a big fan of huge battles. The Unit cannon was one of the major selling points of the game for me, personally, along with the large battles and orbital stuff.
Despite this, I've always been satisfied and entertained by the game. It still needs some improvements and additions here and there, but it's fun. And the graphics & art style are fantastic.
Jesus christ I found a real shitlord this evening. He hosted a 4 planet system and tagged as "casual". As soon as the match starts, three planets crash into eachother and leaves us with one planet. No less than a minute in I'm attacked by dox bot raid parties, using the same goddamn patterns as in Dota or starcraft.
The T2 Sniper Bots can apparently shoot down Tactical Missiles, but we definitely need some of these in the bulding selection.
It's hard to send those to a planet when both of our orbits were completely locked down with fighters and those ion lasers on the ground. We concentrated on other commanders first then worried about each other. My friend sent about 40+ fighters to my planet only to have my 70+ dominate them. We even tried throwing planets but neither of us could lock one down long enough without being nuked.
It's OP and cheap as fuck and will probably get fixed but if you build 5 or 6 SXXs and send them to attack the enemy commander on another planet at the same time, he'll be destroyed the moment they reach orbit since the SXX fires the moment it arrives.
It's how I get out of deadlocks if nukes don't cut it.
Orbital combat feels a little empty to be honest.
We have the fighters and not much else.
Although everybody seems to be against it on the official forums, I wouldn't mind if they expanded orbital combat to include some starships or more orbital combat units like orbital bombers or something. Naval combat could use some attention as well. Larger orbital transports wouldn't be a bad idea either.
I wouldn't mind a third tier and a larger unit selection as well along with larger and more powerful units, something that made Supreme Commander awesome was that you could build something like the Monkeylord or whatever it was called or the Fatboy which if controlled properly could turn the tide of the battle, although their use would be rather limited considering PA's inter-planetary scale.
As someone whom has played Total Annihilation to bits, I wonder, does this game come close to it?
Really, the one major thing that disappoints me is the lack of giant units. I love experimentals in Supreme commander, and the huge variety in units. PA lacks variety, and there's no real units of awe.
The lack of unit cannon too, launching troops would be great, and they've been saying 'eventually' since the earlier builds (and I've had PA since it first got on steam).
I'm horrible at this game, but it's still pretty fun. The last few rounds I've basically leeched on my ally, and always apologizing for not contributing enough to the battle.
Then once my ally thinks we're losing, I find and glass the enemy commanders from orbit :v:
I could have sworn that PA was going to use Flow-fields for pathfinding. If they are using them now it doesn't seem like they are.
Is there a formations option?
It's really annoying sending a bunch of bombers that fly in a lovely line instead of a group, making easy pickings for the anti-air.
Formations are WIP and the toggle for it was removed lately, there's a formations mod in PAMM that enables it, but it doesn't work that great at the moment.

Formations were specifically talked about in their early videos and I heard word of it being added back when the game was in Alpha, but as of 6 months ago at least it hasn't been in.
I hate in FFAs when one person gets a planet for free and then just wrecks because nobody contested him for 20 minutes.

The units already move in groups and wait for slower units, you just can't control the formations themselves. Sometimes they just disregard it all though.
I'm a huge fan of Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander. Should I get this?
Prepare to be confused by having just two tiers. The game gets kinda weird to me when tier 2 is the final tier.
Is there a way to get units to roam/search and destroy without having to manually put them on patrol?
How smart would it be to play this game with only 2gb of usable ram? :v:
The more I read the posts in this thread about stuff that was in but got removed or whatever, the more I think, "Wow, they really shouldn't have released it as a proper game."
At least not yet anyway.
How smart would it be to play this game with only 2gb of usable ram? :v:
I really really doubt it. Even the minimum requirements ask for 4GBs.
I have 8 GB and if I have almost nothing running on my computer, it still manages to use up like 96% of it.

With your units selected, press the patrol button, or hotkey and then left-click drag from a point, to outside the planet, that way, all of the selected units will patrol the planet.

Your game will crash. Loading the in game UI alone takes more than 2gb.
so is that all just from bad optimization or what geez
Do you seriously expect a modern game to run on 2gb? Besides, a system with 2gb most likely wouldn't handle it with 160 either because the rest of the parts are still going to suck.
Game uses a ton of RAM and is hard on computers - but I have thoroughly enjoyed the 15 or 20 games I've played (1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 - each with friends vs randoms)

well i was more talking about 2 GB just for an UI, just seemed absurd to me
We should do another Facepunch game. Would anyone be interested?

What time?
Now? :v:
Edit:
Fuck it, I just created a lobby called "Facepunch Match" with the password "jbmod". We'll see if anyone's interested I guess.
