Was super excited for the game before beta/alpha but got super disappointed with how Uber was managing it post release.
Is it worthy of a "successor" to SupCom yet would you say? SupCom is one of my favorite RTS's and there hasn't really been an RTS released in the past few years that has caught my eye or been worth it other than this game.

So here's a mod that adjusts unit scale: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/rel-rescalepa-converter-to-create-smaller-units.64462/
Looks pretty cool! Probably late.
How is the performance of PA compared to a few months ago, both netcode and FPS wise? I remember it always turning into a laggy shitfest with the netcode slowing everything down a lot.
We already have the Astraeus if that's what you mean by lander and the asteroid belt has been replaced by moons.
Thats false, we are going to get asteroid belts. They are working on it as far as I know.

It mostly went into slowmotion for me, and it's about the same anyway I think.
I got it. It crashes sometimes, and recently it went into slowmotion and then crashed, still worth 10$!

It's not as perfect as Forged Alliance, but it's a million times more worthy of being a successor (albeit spiritual) than Supreme Commander 2.
The scale is mind blowing, the multiple planets are hard to get used to but are awesome once you do, there's only one faction, but IMO it doesn't detract from the gameplay in any way.
The bad parts are that the performance is still not amazing, the simulation slows down considerably after 30-50 minutes (not that surprising with multiple armies thousands of units in size roaming the planets), it's buggier than a game out of Early Access should be and it crashes from time to time.
Let me start with saying that you will not find game symilar to this. Its one in its kind, its mix of TA and SupCom, its on PLANETS, it has round map, it has no minimap, but have PIP, and many alarms. 360 degree gameplay and also additional orbital layer really add to the gameplay. Also, you can drag commands of building stuff, patrol, attack, you could not do that in SupCom. You will not find that kind of gameplay anywhere, and its awesome.
I personally find PA better than SupCom, as a big player of FAF and TA. Unless you dig for campaing, then SupCom and TA is better there.
I wish there was an easier way to order units to scout an entire planet. Right now I just make some waypoints going around the whole thing in the 8 cardinal directions from the north pole.

Select unit and drag select the patrol command across the whole planet.
Is this game worth 10$?
It's come a long way. I think I paid more than $10 for this game and I was happy with it, and that was when it was a lot less fleshed out
So what I'm saying is yeah
80% off! really tempted to get it. Only problem: i already have a ton of games I got for xmas that I want to play, and I loved SupCom: FA and SupCom2 so I wonder if I'd just be disappointed in this
i loved both of those games so i dont see why not

If you view it as in the same spirit then you'll like it. Its better than SC2 imo, I did not like that game AT ALL
Personally I thought a lot of the hate SupCom2 got was unwarrented
I do think FA was better, especially since SupCom2 lost a lot of the spirit that made SupCom1 so good but a lot of the changes done made games generally play out much better IMO, my supcom2 matches were a lot more interesting and dynamic than most of my SupCom1's were. Plus the AI is easily one of the best RTS AI's done to date after the updates
But it totally suffered in the sense that it made all these balance and gameplay tweaks, but then flushed down the toilet the stuff that made supcom1 so awesome (sense of scale, art style, feeling of exp. units being bamf, etc).
whats the tutorial and balancing like now? back when i bought it just before it left early access the AI just shit on you if you hadnt played a rts for a while

Is a mod needed to make planets like that?
Is a mod needed to make planets like that?
You can edit the planet much better now.
But to get great planets it quite difficult use PAMM and system sharing to download maps ingame.

PAMM

I just bought this game when it was on sale! I'd love to have someone to play with me. :)
I crashed my game trying to render about 20 moons. I tried to create our solar system and substituted the rings of Saturn with moons. :v:

I didn't think SC2 was bad, and I did like the AI. Some of the new experimentals were really neat, but it didn't feel "right" to me. It missed what made SupCom 1 so great, which was the scale. If I separate it from SC1 its a great RTS of its own, but it doesn't really seem like the successor of SC1. I just overhyped it and felt a bit let down is all, blahblah gripe gripe

I feel like PA is the exact opposite of SC2. For every design decision SC2 made PA took the other decision.
SC2 got smaller maps, PA is the most massive RTS ever created (in terms of scale)
SC2 got awesome experimentals and tons of different upgrades and a research system, PA has base unit types of two tech tiers and what you see is what you get. No upgrades (never liked that in AoE and Starcraft 2, SC2 at least had visual upgrades too IIRC)
SC2 got dumbed down for newbies, PA is fairly hard to learn even for FA veterans because of the whole multiple spherical planets.
PA is wonderful though as a game, even if the learning curve is more of a learning cliff

I've used up all 12 or so free gigabytes of ram trying to render a larger-than-normally-allowed tropical planet so I could make a gigantic mostly-sea planet to fight with my friends on. Like, 2100 gets to 10 gigs and any higher will guarantee the game crashing because it's out of memory.

I swear this game must use Java because it is a memory hogging mofo
I swear this game must use Java because it is a memory hogging mofo
It was never meant to support super gigantic planets. Normal systems work just fine. My friend is playing it regularly on his old notebook with 4GB RAM.

Mumble, mumble, Java is not a memory hog if done right, mumble, mumble.
I swear this game must use Java because it is a memory hogging mofo
Planets are really getting big after 1500 threshold. 2100 is HUGE. It would probably take 10-20 minutes for a tank to go from one side to another. When planet is that big, there is alot of stuff generated on that planet, and all that has to go the RAM. PA Engine is made to have no limits whatsoever. You dont have unit limit in games. Yes, game will probably crash at one point or another, because user's PC is out of RAM, but if users and server have alot of it, you can go for crazy amount of units. My next PC is going to have 32GB of ddr4 RAM minimum, just for PA, to test stuff and make awesome battles.
EDIT: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/radius-4649-planet.54341/ Check this out. It does not look big, but average sized island on that map could contain battles with 2-4 commanders, and everybody would fit just fine. And there are alot of those islands.
