I couldn't be more serious in my life. You just told me that I shouldn't be complaining about something because I don't have to buy it. As soon as "if you don't like it don't watch/buy it" gets thrown out, any chance at any sort of logical debate is lost as well.
Nothing is immune from criticism, even if I don't have to buy it.
Obviously you can complain, but it's going to do you no good. And your arguments are invalid. You seem to be under the impression that everyone else shares your opinions. If they did, the kick starter never would have gotten off the ground. Most kick starters wouldn't. But since it is apparent that there are people who are willing to support the development process of a game by paying as much money as they like, who is to say that rewarding them with access to the alpha is unreasonable. Yes it's unfinished, yes it's buggy. It's alpha. Most of the time, the public doesn't have access to an early development title until beta. It's the norm for alpha to be strictly in-house testing. But PA decided against that and instead rewarded it's higher supporting consumers with said access.
If people want it, they'll pay for it. If they pay for it, they'll get it. If they get it, they're satisfied. If they're satisfied then the developers have some something right. However if people don't want it, then they won't pay for it and won't have to worry about "being ripped off".

"It's unreasonable to charge 90 dollars for an unfinished game"
"Your arguments are invalid"
Aaaaaand i'm done here. Enjoy your expensive, unfinished game.

Leave that sort of nonsense out of here...console wars are pointless.

Okay, bye!
Also I don't have alpha so it's not expensive for me.
Crypto, feel free to keep posting messages on my profile as well. It's really helping you convince me of your point.

i thought you were leaving?
More than double? I paid way more than that, friend.
You're asking for access to the game's development at a level most of us paid at least 90 dollars for, BEFORE there was anything to download. Now there's something to download, it's already off to a great start (flying navies notwithstanding), and you, having put zero faith in the project beforehand, come in here and expect to pay less than half of the lowest alpha-backer tier to get the same access we paid for?
That's what they call a "sense of entitlement".

People who only want access to the Alpha because its early access shouldn't even bother, I've said this before but the Alpha is only for the most dedicated backers who want to help shape the game for the better.
Didn't think I'd need to post the exact same thing twice, but apparently I need to :suicide:
if i'm selling an alpha which is unfinished (also its not hardly playable), i don't want to sell it for 30 bucks because then i have a bunch of idiots going "wah wah pathfinding doesn't work" "wah wah planets are gay" etc
the easiest way to bugfix a game is to expose it to as many people as possible, because then you get the largest amount of hardware configurations and software configurations, and the most amount of people reporting bugs and glitches
to be honest, 'it's 90$ on STEAM because that's what the kickstarter cost was" doesn't really concern me, because I think its a joke that it was that much on kickstarter as well.
Congratulations, you lose a bunch of sales and also deter any actual players who don't necessarily have the funds to buy a 90 dollar broken game, all in the sake of trying to make your job easier.

I'm lovin it. Yes, if it's got bugs, it's broken. That's the definition of a bug.
It's an alpha you cripple, the entire purpose of the alpha is to find bugs.
Fair play Garat, however my 12 year old son was looking forward to this game and he has just now assured me that due to the crazy price for an alpha that he has no intention of buying your game at any time in the future. Shame really as he was looking forward to it.
Cheers Danny..
What a shame :(

thats the number of people in the alpha + steam purchases
now can we talk about the game rather than dingbats who haven't purchased the game whining about a price point that isn't going to change???
50+ new posts in this thread and I ALMOST got my hopes up that something significant had happened and it wasn't just a bunch of children arguing about the price point.
Is the progenitor commander the default commander or is it also a pre-order exclusive like the Theta commander? When I pre-ordered it was before Theta was announced and at the time I think they were saying the Progenitor was the exclusive.
The Progenitor as far as I know is for people who chose the $50 option when backing the kickstarter to show that you backed the project, which is what I chose.

Oh my goodness the stupidity of the metacritic comments is infuriating. THIS IS THE ALPHA PRICE, THE PRICE WILL BE LOWER WHEN THE FULL GAME COMES OUT.
This is why we can't have nice things.
[editline]14th June 2013[/editline]
And somebody in the reviews section called it a TA clone...
Honestly why are people calling them greedy developers? They only had $2 million to build a game from the ground up, that's peanuts in terms of game funding with most games having a budget of about $20 million. Seriously every penny given to this game is going to be used on the game, the devs can't afford to use it otherwise.
Kickstarter teirs don't make sense for Steam's alpha funding and that's not what steam alpha funding is for
They shouldn't put their game up for sale on alpha funding until it's "cheap enough" for general populace to want to invest in (i.e. at a price tier that where you could be considered as buying the game, not "donating to it")
You can't just shoehorn what is basically a donation with a reward teir ($90) into a completely different pricing model that is basically "buy game that isn't complete now for cheaper"
Kickstarter is meant as a donation funding drive, and they just happened to make one of the donation teirs include the alpha. If they want to put the alpha by itself up for SALE then it shouldn't be treated like a donation (the $90 teir), and should instead be treated like a sale
If they feel like that'll somehow "betray" kickstarter people, then they honestly shouldn't try to shoehorn a previously established alpha model into another alpha model and expect it to be fine.
I'd rather they make it so they don't show up on Steam Early Access until mid beta starts, at an actual EARLY ACCESS price and let the people who actually donated to their reward teirs that let them in the closed beta have access to it
THANK YOU.
SOMEONE who fucking gets it.
THE GAME IS OUT OF FUNDING STAGE, keeping the price at $90 now is just some greedy bullshit hidden behind some moral excuse of not 'cheating' the kickstarter funders.
The people who funded through kickstarter should not have had the idea of "PAY $90 TO PLAY THE GAME EARLY", it should have been "PAY $90 AS A DONATION AND AS A TOKEN OF APPRECIATION YOU GET TO TEST THE GAME"
It's fucking stupid. Not that I expected much from the devs of (s)mnc, at least.

The whole point of giving the $90 tier people the alpha was to allow people who had put significant investment a chance to give input into the development process. If you're not willing to put in an investment you damn well wait until the games finished.
I had no idea how many entitled gamers were about these days.
Planetary Annihilation is #3 top seller on Steam. Take that, whiners!
Well that was a ridiculously pointless thing to argue about. Let's change the topic.
Those who have played the alpha, what's it like?
I want to do alpha, but the 90$ is just way to steep for me. I'm afraid I won't know broken from unfinished, but I really want to play it. Does any one have screens of what it looks like right now?

Buggy, like every alpha. And that is fine. Because it is an alpha. alpha.
[sp]ALPHA.[/sp]
i'm not going to bother reading through the last 75 posts but everyone who complained about it being £67 for alpha access is dumb as heck
I like the developers response to it, they just don't give a fuck and are open about supporting their dedicated kickstarter backers, and that is how a game developer should respond and should be loyal to their fans.
Buggy, like every alpha. And that is fine. Because it is an alpha. alpha.

He asked how it was, you're sounding rather defensive for such a genuine question. Does the gameplay appear interesting? Can you imagine it will be a game you would put lots of time into?
You're able to assess those questions despite the game being in alpha.
So they're going the opposite way of Minecraft, one of the game that has sold the most copies ever.
that's some good marketing huh
Everyone criticizing them for the price is an entitled fuck. They shouldn't have it on steam but still
