...Okay, Microsoft. You win. I've upgraded to Windows 10.
I can deal with fullscreening my games to avoid forced vsync, if it means I get some modern, FIRST PARTY form of Halo 5 on PC.
I'm gonna wait til July, allows me to see further details, as well as other releases. Plus i can hope they decide to release it to windows 7 and 8, very unlikely but a man can dream.
I know micro$oft would put a lid on it, but i would like to convert campaign maps into forge/ multiplayer maps, if they ever released MCC or Halo 5 on pc.

Thats not going to happen, but halo 5 being modded, I bet it will with in a year of release, so converting might happen, just they got to find a way to inject BSP, forge maps, dunno about unless 343 adds AI to forge for custom firefight maps (or leaves MP ai in), but it would be great.
Ars Technica says H5 Forge will allow online play with friends list, but no matchmaking

Q: Will I be able to play the maps built in Forge – Halo 5: Guardians Edition?
A: Yes. Players can build, test, and play their Forge creations with other friends on Windows 10 through the Custom Games lobby.
Q: Will Forge – Halo 5: Guardians Edition use matchmaking?
A: Matchmaking on Windows 10 is not supported, but players can play with friends on Windows 10 in Custom Games by inviting them into their session.
Q: Will I have access to all of the multiplayer maps from Halo 5: Guardians on Xbox One?
A: All Halo 5: Guardians Arena Multiplayer maps as well as bookmarked maps created within Forge on Xbox One will be available. Keep in mind that Warzone maps are not supported in Forge on either platform.
Q: Is cross-play between Forge – Halo 5: Guardians Edition and Halo 5: Guardians supported?
A: Cross-play between Windows 10 and Xbox One is not supported, but you can share Forge content across both platforms.
Q: Does Forge – Halo 5: Guardians Edition use DirectX 12?
A: Yes! In fact, Forge – Halo 5: Guardians Edition is built exclusively on DirectX 12.
Q: Is this a sign that you’ll be releasing a full version Halo 5: Guardians on PC?
A: Forge – Halo 5: Guardians Edition on Windows 10 is a free publishing tool designed for map makers and creators to build and play their creations on Windows 10 and also publish these experiences to Xbox One. As we’ve stated previously, we have no plans to release Halo 5: Guardians on Windows 10. We are focused on building Halo Wars 2 for Windows 10 and Xbox One. Releasing Forge for Windows 10 for free will open up endless opportunities to the PC community to build and play Halo 5 multiplayer content, while also allowing them to share their creations with gamers on Xbox One as well. Windows 10 remains an important focus for the Halo franchise moving forward.
Q: Can I use mouse and keyboard when I play Custom Games and test my Forge creations on Windows 10, or only when I build?
A: Yes! Mouse and keyboard support will be offered for both gameplay as well as within the creative experience in Forge on Windows 10.
In the near future, we’ll have a lot more to share about Forge for Windows 10, but that’s not all. Be on the lookout for even more exciting updates coming to the Forge experience in Halo 5 on the Xbox One in the coming months – including new environments, advanced file sharing capabilities, new pieces, palettes, props, and much more. We can’t wait to be blown away once again by the community’s curiosity and creativity.

This actually works out very well for me since I'm redoing my office to have two dedicated desktops and two relatively decent laptops. If the system requirements aren't too high then four player Halo 5 matches will take place there until the end of time.. When people aren't playing Overwatch.
I do have to wonder about customization, will we have access to default armor only, unless we have halo 5 on xbone?
Have they said if everyone will be able to get this game, or just people who own halo 5?
I think its free for anyone with Win10, and I would assume if you have any armor unlocks in the XB1 version have access to whatever you have since it's tied to your XBL account. If you don't have the game on the XB1 then you're probably stuck with the default armor.
You don't need to spend a grand for a decent PC.
If you're Canadian you have to.
source: Me.
Wait, so are they really planning on releasing what is essentially Halo 5: CE with a server browser (custom matches) and lobbies?
There is no server browser. Only private/invite only lobbies for Forge and custom games.

There won't be no server browser for long tho ;)
There won't be no server browser for long tho ;)
That depends on how locked down it is into UWP.

I'll give someone five hours after release for someone to work their space magic.
I'm wondering if you need a subscription for this, i hope not.

Uh, does that mean we're going to need a DX12 card?
I have one, but still.

Forced vsync?
A little before its time I suppose. But a discord for organising H5 PC Customs when they do come along.
https://discord.gg/011YyQahrTrJ2Lh36
i fuckin. idk if my GTX 560 will be enough. with Forza 6 apex it seems I meet DX12 requirements but Apex requires 2gb of VRAM and my card only has 1gb and windows store is stopping me from downloading the game (i think) due to this. i don't think there's a way to force download it, and now i'm worried H5 is gonna have the same problem, where I can meet minimum requirements for everything but fucking vram

yeah i surprisingly got invited over steam, will be useful for forgers and testers that's for sure.
I sure am looking forward to making maps for halo on pc, like i do in Unreal or did in far cry. Want to make me self The Library or 343 Guilty Sparks for infection.

Forced vsync?
It's a "feature" of the Desktop Window Manager (DWM) in Windows 10; 8 and 7 did not have this implemented, hence why the PCMR crowd hesitated at first
[editline]21st May 2016[/editline]
But really, we should all add each other on XBL if we wanna play some custom forge sooner or later
I've never noticed it.

I'm more wondering if I can use my old Xbox 360 gamertag for this... it never got updated into the new unified system so idk if I can log in.
Sentinel and I played against a highly unobservant team. Here's double assassiaion from that match.

One dude legit walked right by me towards the end. It broke my brain.

Sentinel broke forge and became fully invisible.
So I just heard this version of Reach's epilogue for the first time..

Now this is a way to go out.
So with halo 5's forge being released on pc does that mean we'll also be getting better armor models?
I don't mind 343's armor for the most part. It's just that when they look bad... they look bad. There needs to be more of a military focus than a sci-fi focus, Reach had a good thing going for it by making the helmets designed as if someone was actually going to wear them and the armor differentiated by its function rather than its form.
Most of the current armor just focuses on "wacky shapes" to make it look distinct, but shapes mean nothing in the middle of combat especially when there's 50 other armor sets that do the same thing to try and look distinct. They've got a "fling shit at the wall to see what sticks" approach to armor design, and it's awful.
The Security armor is the step in the right direction. I liked what they did with the helmet and how they stayed true to the shoulder pads.

Also, I just realized that the Reclaimer symbol - that is identical to the Marathon symbol and a reference to it's origins - is on the forehead of the helmet. That's a neat little touch.

ugh the normal map on that visor is inverted
ugh the normal map on that visor is inverted
Can somebody explain why each game/software tends to handle normal maps differently rather than staying consistent with how they read them and their color channels? It always seemed weird to me how you would usually have to invert specific color channels of the normal map to get them to work in a game when they were looking fine in the program that you were viewing the normal map with.
