I'm playing through Halo 1-3 on legendary right now and I actually forgot how much better Bungie's Halo games were

I'm up to the part in the campaign where you just get to Sanghelios So far IMO it's been really good and the story hasn't been bad at all, and this is 6-7 missions in I'm guessing the reason why people end up not liking the campaign is the story doesn't go anywhere from here? It's been interesting setup so far, even if the guardians are kind of cheesy looking/slightly silly. I'm guessing the purpose of the guardians (which hasn't been revealed yet in the campaign) is also pretty dumb judging by reactions?

And It's kinda the other way around. Towards the end, the story starts throwing a lot at you and it loses it's pacing. Their purpose isn't really that dumb, just something that could've been revealed a lot sooner, and not made the story feel quite so rushed.

I think a big part of that is I didn't listen to any of the Hunt the Truth stuff, or any of the marketing really, so I wasn't looking for that ONI conspiracy angle or Chief vs. Locke stuff that it built up. I'm also pretty interested to see where it goes after seeing the ending, rather than pissed off like Halo 2's ending, which some people have compared it to. I don't think there's anything that'll be a huge dealbreaker for you if you're still fine with it.

The shit that happens in the third act shoulda started happening in the end of the first, imo.

And yeah microsoft gave us another halo 2 release.
