Then again, that might have led to Old Spice REQ promotions.
This is a downside why?
Bad VA for a bad character. He might have been good if they spent basically any time at all developing him. The only character that I actually cared about (blue team is cool as shit and i love them from the books but they have barely any development in game)other than Chief was Buck, and that was because he was already in ODST.
I thought locke's VA was pretty good, actually.
halo 1 servers only shut down because they were hosted by gamespy which was bought out and gutted
And even then PC got updated to have a new master server, which is awesome.
I think Locke's VA was another Mace Windu. The actor's pretty good, but the writing and direction forces him to sound like a monotone exposition machine.
I really really liked Cortana outfit.
But yeah, I loved the Blue Team missions cause it made me remember the books.
Coudn't care less about Locke's, other than Buck, cause ODST.
Did we play the same Reach? Everyone I knew hated that game, and it was filled with gimmicky shit like armor lock and jetpacks. Every map was a bland gray forge map because the on disk maps were terrible. 343 released an optional title update that split the already struggling population into 4 parts. The game couldn't even hold #1 game on Xbox LIVE for more than a few weeks meanwhile Halo 3 had it for like 3 years.
Reach was Bungie's swan song to the series and it showed, the game had A LOT to do and a great deal of care was put into it.
Regardless, it was a very 'love or hate' game, I myself and all of my friends absolutely adored the game and I never found the community to be small enough to not be able to find matches reliably.
I personally found the best parts of the game to be its multitude of very fun custom gamemodes, and the fact that forgeworld facilitated some of the most unique forge maps to ever come out of the halo community. The wonder of browsing the fileshare and finding massive ships with fully fleshed out interiors, or massive race courses, or absolutely amazing infection maps, was what kept me hooked the most out of everything else.
People love to hate on the powerups but they didnt really change gameplay, you could play gamemodes that removed those completely and if you didn't know how to counter them, you're either one of those really snooty comp players (NOTHING CAN EVER CHANGE EVER!!!) or you're just retarded, because even the infamous armor lock was really easy to beat if you actually adapted to fight it.
Basically, the game had forgeworld, invasion (Spartans vs canon sized elites, in a big map with objectives and vehicles? oh lord it was good), firefight, and a pretty fun campaign with lots of unique bits to it. If you didn't care about these things, chances are you hated the game.
Plus on a slightly unrelated note im a sucker for shit that looks tacticool, and id prefer it if halo just stuck with reach's style of armor, instead of the weirdness we got now.

I agree the game had a lot of content, and it did have a lot to do, but I got burnt on it pretty fast. The custom games were great, but it didn't have that "feeling"(?) the original Halo 3 classics had. I'm not really sure how to describe it. I did play team classic when the playlist was around, and it felt clunky as reach was designed for things like sprint (lower movement speed and jump height by default, so when you bumped it up felt like you were ice skating).
The armor abilities drastically changed the game. Jetpack was borderline broken and over powered (abusing soft kill boundaries, instantly contest map control off spawn). Giving anyone absolute invulnerability in a multiplayer shooter is stupid. The only way to "beat" armor lock is to wait, which isn't always an option. I enjoy Halo's core multiplayer (2v2s, 4v4s, FFAs) and it was definitely the second weakest in the series (Halo 4 obliviously placing first). The map design didn't really help either, I've had Onyx arena games end 8-5 on Sword Base, that's ridiculous. Speaking of the Arena, the competitive ranking system was really poorly implemented and for the first few seasons it relied on stats instead of wins (which lead to people baiting their team mates for kills, instead of playing for the win). The ranking system is really similar to the Halo 5 one, and it seems like they learned from the mistakes of Reach and fixed it.
Invasion was Okay, but I felt like it was a real let down. They could of have really expanded on that game mode more, and I would have liked to seen more invasion modes. I'm also still angry they got rid of the team colors from the Beta, UNSC green vs Covenant purple was really cool.
Reach had a lot of ideas that sounded good on paper, but most of it was executed horribly.

I vastly prefer Reach's looks to pretty much any part of the series before or since then, save for maybe a few elements from Halo 3.

absolutely yes, gungnir and mark 5 from reach are my two favorite armor sets in the entire series. reach had the best artstyle by far
Just couldn't stand the Reach Assault rifle. There was too much greeble on it, and I think the ammo counter being raised was a big part of the messed up look.

Looks like they took the Halo 1 assault rifle and just stripped all the coverings off it
Be happy we didn't get this :v:

We're talking about how great Reach was? Best not forget this gem.

Reach was my first Halo game. Love the artstyle, love the soundtrack, love the characters and as much as I would normally hate it when devs retcon stuff, that magical moment when you see the Pillar of Autumn take off makes it all worth it.
Man I loved Reach and I didn't even get to experience the multiplayer! I was in forge all by myself. Reach has one of my favourite endings in game's ever. As long as you invest in the story, that ending is just awesome.

Idk about greeble. Other than details from older iterations carried over, I don't think there was much there that didn't also look functional. Like, the ammo counter wasn't just raised, it was on a rail and removable.
This conversation has been had before. Like, really recently.
That sweet sweet Shinobi armor in the reveal for Battle of Shadows update. Mmmmmm
That sweet sweet Shinobi armor in the reveal for Battle of Shadows update. Mmmmmm
That Helmet looks pretty dumb.
I like how "big" the update is, as opposed to just being a patch which contains the items.

Armor lock was easy enough to deal with. I never had a problem with that. For me it was just a pace-breaker and felt like it interrupted the whole flow of things. Like time just stops for a few seconds. Maybe it's just me. Either way, letting me use a jetpack all the time made up for it. I'm always up for more mobility in shooters.

Man I remember when Reach released and everyone on Facepunch was bitching
But for real Reach was fucking amazing, never NEVER understood the hate it got for gay shit like "reticule bloom"
I enjoy the convenient handles on that helmet
I miss gore being in Halo.
I agree, but I'm kinda surprised it took the first T rated FPS Halo title to add blood effects to the fucking executions.
I do really miss the violence though. I just want bullet hole decals on people, man. Like, even HL2 levels of prolonged feedback. Why is that so bad?
I miss gore being in Halo.
I don't even remember gore besides the Flood
Unless you count fisting an Elite in the ass until you had a football field's worth of purple blood everywhere in Halo 1 :v:
So is this new armor supposed to be the Hayabusa replacement?
Would they even be allowed to recreate the Hayabusa armor?
I mean, they brought back the Security helmet, and it even has the Marathon logo on it (or a slightly modified version of it to avoid legal issues?).

Well, there's the fact that the blood effects in Halo 1 and 2 had some love put into em. After that, they just got more and more stripped down and boring till you get to what we have in Halo 5, which is actually embarrassingly simple effects with no flare. It's basically just the same impact effect from Reach but with no mist or droplets in the air. Just the initial "splat."
It suuuuuuuhuuuuhuuuuhuuuucks MOOOOM

Our promised commitment to meaningful post-launch support and expanded free content begins this month with our first drop: Battle of Shadow and Light, which adds the stealthy new Shinobi ninja-themed armor, some legendary Light Rifle firepower and perhaps most importantly, the arrival of Big Team Battle maps, modes and mayhem to Halo 5: Guardians.
There are tons of new REQs added to this month’s drop, including ones that might give you access to the Ultra Rare Shinobi armor and Legendary Dying Star Light Rifle (to name but two). We have Tundra and Woodland-themed vehicle skins, a brutal (and occasionally hilarious) Shove It assassination and dozens more items to unlock, discover and utilize.
But Big Team Battle is the cherry on top, and you’ll recognize elements and aspects of the first four maps in the mix, but all four have been, in varying ways, significantly adjusted for the new mobility, weapons and features of Halo 5 – and all are available in both Custom Games and Matchmaking, and present just a hint of the content featured in next month’s update.
