late as fuck but i really like how the hammer in this pic matches up with the ship as if they are wielding the might of a spaceship

reach will age really well when it comes to gfx i reckon. the high-res textures (relatively speaking) & pretty particle effects will make shit look beautiful for a while
The models too, I think, are part of what helps, not just the textures. I could be talking out my ass here, but I think they're as detailed as they need to be in terms of polygons, as opposed to older games that relied on bump maps for a lot of detail. Not that Reach didn't use bump maps or anything, but I'm talking compared to Halo 3, where for example a lot of the detail on Brute armour was textures and not the model. In Reach it's mostly for scratches and small-scale detail and stuff.
(Mostly this opinion comes from looking at the extracted models)
I dont think anybody would disagree that of the Bungie era games, Reach is the best looking. I have some stylistic nitpicks that I prefer about the first game but overall Reach is great looking.
What they especially did right in Reach though was the animations. Halo 3s cutscenes have some really janky animations at times and it looks especially off with the relatively low poly models that Halo 3 has for its human characters and faces. In gameplay though that's not the kind of thing you see or notice, and I still really like how colorful Halo 3 is.
I really didn't like the marines (Army in Reach actually) models, the Halo 2-3 marines looked great imo. (and I'm solely referring to armor and style, not faces.)
Ideally, I would like Reach's artstyle with elements of 2-3 thrown in.
Reach armor and H2A style weapons and vehicles?

Imo the worst thing in H3 was the [sp]ending at the memorial[/sp], where the camera goes behind a marine's octagonal head. I laughed out loud the first time.
Honestly though, I think spartans in Halo 3 looked great. Mostly in MP.
Not so much the textures, but the way they made the shaders look. The way spartans take light in halo 3 almost makes them look like real action figures, which i think makes them still hold up pretty well visually.

Bungie has some of the best animators in the business. The work on the Elites in Reach was mind blowing.
this made me laugh
Originally we planned to have the grunts also throw trash onto the pitch, to help show that they were not pleased with your performance. We were even going to have the grunts jump in by the hundreds near the 10 minute mark to show just how mad the little guys can get.
Aw...
I broke Forge. I tried setting my map to night and now its in an infinite loop of loading and generating lighting.
Anyone trying to jump on some Arena?
While Reach looks pretty great, I feel like it really shined when there were more colourful areas around (think inside the Covenant Ship, Tip of the Spear and New Alexandria). Since a lot of stuff was human themed I felt like a lot of the campaign felt really grim and grey/green, while the Halo games before it were a breath of fresh air in a genre dominated by desaturated colours.

I really would've loved to have seen some of the more exotic environments done in Reach's style. Or more civilian stuff than just office buildings and houses, at least, though the night time flying mission was pretty good on that front with the ornate office tower and the hospital and such.
Fucking god Halo 2 vista seems to be more broken every time i play it. Even with vsync on i get weird minute performance drops in certain areas, and even with the fixer upper the mouse control is still borked, it like turns slow unless you do a large swipe in which it turns too fast.
And even if i turn off pointer precision in windows, there's like this mouse movement microstutter thats driving me crazy.
I just wanted to play the halo 2 campaign again with M&KB god damnit.

Maybe they could implement that for a 'for fun' version, like an inversion to how CS:GO has special map variants that remove extra stuff and effects for competitive play.
god i love reddit halo and everything since it's so active
but goddamn the annoyance given when you're downvoted to oblivion because you say halo 5 doesn't run at 1080p

Well it doesn't
Well it doesn't
right, but it 'can' It does this weird scaling thing based on framerate, which imo is kinda cool
right, but it 'can' It does this weird scaling thing based on framerate, which imo is kinda cool
and trippy as balls when it starts to struggle.
Wouldn't know. My tv caps at 720p :v:
Well it doesn't
It does... More than Half the time.
I ordered an Xbox One after receiving a surprise bonus, I decided the bing shit was gonna take too long lol, impatience.
Add me, SGT-Spartans. It should be delivered today. I'll be playing Halo 5
Use your Bing Points for Xbox Live Gold. That's what I did
How does this Bing rewards thing work? It sounds like it could be useful for XBLGold.
You get points for doing searches and such. But if you use multiple be careful, they've been on a banning spree lately for that.

I didn't even use multiple, and now I'm perma'd
right, but it 'can' It does this weird scaling thing based on framerate, which imo is kinda cool
Yeah but I wouldn't say its 1080p I'd say it has a scaling resolution that can reach it

The way you italicized only the word within the single quotes made it look like "carl" and completely threw me off.
Same here, I was confused.
Yeah, my point is that it doesn't. The highest it reached in digitalfoundrys test was 1536x1080, and the lowest was 1152x800. Never 1080p.

And the game doesn't look as crisp as a result
