At least art direction is somewhat subjective. The worst offender of 5 to me is still the UI, and I don't think I've ever seen one person defend it. It's stripped down and awkward. User experience as a field has grown so much in the past several years that I don't know how they could fuck up that bad. And it's not like it even went bad with 343. It was decent enough in 4.
I haven't seen anyone defend it because I haven't seen anyone discuss it.

Really? I've seen quite a bit about it on the subreddit. It seems to be one of the few things there's actually close to a consensus on.

Well I don't go to reddit so that's probably why. v:v:v
Although it seems most people here genuinely like Halo 4's campaign, which I hate as a hardcore Bungie-era Halo lover. I understand it's just my opinion though, so I try not to voice it too much.
I feel the same way, and I've kind of refrained from bitching about 343 because it's a long-beaten horse. I much prefer Bungie's stuff though, even with the plot holes and inconsistencies and all.

Yeah but atleast Bungie was completely self aware about the plot holes and make jokes about them
...I can't really agree on that, because it means they're aware of their bad writing and keep doing it anyway. If it was a realization long after the fuckup, then maybe.

Have you not watched the dev commentary of Halo 1 and 2?
Have you not watched the dev commentary of Halo 1 and 2?
No?
No?
They literally play through the games commenting on things they liked, things they messed up, things they wanted to include like an entire campaign level in 2 dedicated to the "Forerunner Tank", or how Master Chief's delivery of the bomb would've been a level all of its own inside a Covenant ship. It's actually a really awesome trivia source about the games straight from the horse's mouth.
So I'm having a bit of a hard time in Halo Online. I can almost always make it to third or second place in slayer and such but I think my issue is that I never remember where the power weapons are. Anybody got maps with the location of the power weapons?
[editline]15th March 2016[/editline]
Having the weapon timers and power up locations would be nice too.

They even laugh about old ideas they had like evil Cortana and Mirand arc welding a bomb to Master Chief
Halo 5's story was suppose to be in CE. 22:19

"Are you saying you came up with a story where a woman became drunk with power and wanted to take over the universe? I don't believe that for a second."
:godzing:
Halo 2 also originally had Miranda being a villian
Im shocked that Halo fans in the Halo thread have not seen these
I just watched both of those commentary tracks. Really wish they continued making them, especially now that that's pretty much impossible...sounds like there were a lot of stories left untold
It used to seem like Spartan was the only person who disliked "new" Halo stuff. This sudden change surprises me.
No, Spartan is the only one who constantly complains about it and rarely contributes to anything. Everyone has their own gripes with 343 but it doesn't hurt us on a spiritual level like it does Spartan.
I had no gripes with Halo 4 but I guess I never experienced infection.. Let's hope 343 sticks to the H2A design because it seems that H2A is unanimously the best Halo of recent times.

I really wish we got a full remaster of Halo 2 instead of MCC. H2A MP is the best part of MCC and the lack of maps makes me sad.
What. We did get remaster of Halo 2? Okay it wasn't a full one due to the switching thing they had going on in MCC but you can't deny the remaster looks amazing, the cutscenes alone are an amazing achievement.
When are we doing Spartan Conquest by the way? We still don't have full teams and I need help on Red Base's map

It was much better then the Halo CE remaster but they still didnt get the atmosphere quite right in some areas like Mombasa looking like a burning city with a raging inferno in it to now just really smoky
Also, to contribute to the discussion at the end of the last page, I get the vibe from the commentaries that Bungie were a small team being pushed way too far to carry a whole console generation and that's why we ended up with all these plot holes and shit. I enjoyed the old Halo's as games but from the beginning it's flaws were apparent.
We will never get a perfect Halo, Bungie had their vision and 343 have theirs, I like both. I can't be the only one?
Tbh 343i's treatment of the franchise killed halo for me. Halo 5 is the first game in the series I have no interest in owning, and I just don't find myself musing over the future of the plot like I used to do. I bought an xbox and an xbox 360 purely for halo games,I used to collect the action figures, I read the books...hell,I even have a replica energy sword on a wall mount. But I just can't care about the plot after halo 3, and the gameplay of 4 really lacked something of the pacing and flow of the previous installments.
But I don't want to sound like a broken record so I try to tone down my complaint

You're a fan of the series complain all you want when you don't like the direction its going

I'd help but I've had no time to learn forge due to coursework and haven't had time to play Halo in general.
If more people will step up and pick a team. We can totally do Spartan Conquest. I can help you with the map. But it's up to the thread to make it happen. Just let me know what team you guys want to be on and we can plan the day, take care of the maps, etc.

Reread my post. I said a full remaster. The whole campaign and multiplayer. Not the the campaign and a handful of maps.

Looking at the original Halo 2 again, maybe it showed up more prominently later in New Mombasa but if anything it's severely lacking even smoke or fire. Infact the city practically looks like it's an island surrounded by fog due to system limitations of the time. I don't get a 'burning inferno', it looks more like a giant bunch of stylized rectangles with some damages here and there.
So really, Anniversary added more atmosphere.

In hindsight, I see people complain about how Halo 3 barely upgraded the artstyle while dulling down the palette, but looking at how the original Halo 2 was on the classic Xbox as a 2004 game, the graphical upgrade between the two is downright huge in comparison.
A friend of mine borrowed me his xbone, MCC and Halo 5 with it, played Halo 5s story last night, not going to say I liked it, did finish it, and who thought it was a good idea to have the extact same mini-boss over and over?

probably someone who had to rush the endgame design because of a plot revision late into development or something
People complain about the Warden Eternal fights, and yeah, they were annoying, but Bungie gave us loads of mini boss fights where we had to take on a pair of hunters. Okay they're not so threatening once you find out you can just walk circles around them (thank you 343 for fixing that) but they were still tanky like the Warden is and we saw them all the time.

Halo 5's was the first campaign I had trouble forcing myself through. 4 wasn't great but I could deal with it. Still can't stop playing them though because I've just been hooked on the multiplayer style since Halo 2. But if somebody created a legit, mutiplatform competitor then I would probably stop playing. I was kinda hoping Destiny would be that, but the Crucible doesn't cut it at all.

They were climactic finishes to waves of enemies and they're nowhere near as obnoxious, annoying, and downright lethal as the Warden Eternal. Plus even despite showing up in pretty much every Halo game, they weren't that common and often spread out over the story. I can think of four or five Hunter pairs across Halo 2, and one of those pairs helps you.
Halo 5 just spams Warden Eternal like seven fucking times at the end, including multiple in one fight.
