So I found a way to rip models from halo 4 and shove them in Unreal 4 in less than half an hour. Here's one of the results, using stock UE4 assets (I didn't bother to convert textures for a personal project-- you'll note that the forerunner detail illumination is metal when it should be glowing blue)

Would anyone be interested in seeing how a particular scene would look in UE4's physically based rendering? I'd spend a lot more time on materials of course. I've found that a lot of halo 4 actually looks really good if you swap out the plastic forerunner shaders for more metallic ones.
If you're interested, just reply to this with a level and general description of the area, or a link to a video/picture of the area. I'll do my best to recreate it in UE4 in a week or so.
I can also do this with halo 3 but I'm going to be converting halo 4 materials because personally I'm really curious how H4 would look with everything metallic and not plastic
Holy shit!
Do the first scene in Requiem, where the hogs are
On another note, I'd be interested in this UE4 project if you'd be willing to release it sooner or later

I always liked Haven. Maybe this would show off the shaders pretty well? I'm just spitballing here [thumb]http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/halo/images/6/62/E32012_halo4_pvp5.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20130219213013[/thumb]
ragnarok?
I don't think their terrain stuff is gonna easily convert tho

Looks great!
Would you be able to make it sort of halfway between chrome and gunmetal and then give it a bit of weathering so we can see how close it is to Bungie's style? I'm not a modder (yet), sorry if it would be too difficult.

oh, yeah, absolutely. Like I said, this was me clicking and dragging the stock "chrome" asset UE4 has with no editing on my part. I just made everything not labeled "terrain" chrome, and everything "terrain" moss. If I spent more than a minute on it I'd have adjusted the materials.
Speaking of which-- I got Haven (aka Roundabout) into UE4, got lightmaps properly applied, and I've identified 90% of the textures it uses. Unfortunately I'd rather not be up until 6 tomorrow working on this so here's accidental Haven Tron, thanks to assigned but material-less (black) textures and my use of purple for emissive and missing textures:

Tomorrow I should have materials set and such.

I gotta hand it to 343, if they were making Tron instead of Halo they'd probably be doing a great job with it.
Snip
If you hadn't posted this...
I'm seeing a game in this tron world where everyone's wearing the spartan armour of the new games but with more lights and stuff, and all the weapons are the promethean hardlight ones except their light beams and stuff are all team coloured and it's awesome and pretty and.....
Yeah, sure, they made money by stamping 'halo' on it, but they lost their integrity.
What?

You do realize that 343 Industries was made specifically to develop Halo games, right?
I'm not sure what you're talking about, mate.
On a less "wat" note.
Ironically, though 343 does not make great Halo games, I feel like they could own if they made their own IP. They obviously have a lot of talent and ideas, but its not Halo. They are fantastic game devs though.
If only they were given freedom to make something besides Halo, I feel they could really find their element.
I know they aren't going to be making anything other than Halo, but its a nice thought.

yeah, that's basically what I wanted to say, with a little less derp.
Halo 4/5 have some seriously fantastic art assets, they're just not 'Halo'
Really good gameplay, they're just not 'Halo'
And you can just tell by the barely tied in garbage that someone really wants to write their own story.

I would love to see 343 make a non Halo title.
Weren't some of staff just re-branded Bungie devs? I don't quite know the right terminology.
I like the way 343's Halo's play and the way they weave the story into the gameplay. I'm with the majority on the story issue though. There's some good ideas in there but executed badly and the advertising campaign hyped me for a game that doesn't exist.
I'm still going to buy Halo games, the series is great and I don't have a hate boner against 343i like some people do. The games are still good enough for me to want to play them.
I actually really like Halo 5's gameplay and it's undoubtedly Halo and it's what Halo 4 should have been.
honestly I can't believe 5 is the first game to have inherent dodging and ledge-climbing. It seems like so much better of a fit for the Halo series than sprinting ever did to me.
universal ADS on the other hand--yeah, I know technically it's not COD-style ADS-- I'm not a big fan of.
The soundtrack is pretty on point, too. Still love this track.

Just make sure they don't have a gigantic multimedia clusterfuck that tries to add like sixteen angles to the story, with numerous characters and plotpoints that appear into the games and disappear just as fast, just to try to make whatever new shit they could make seem 'deep'.

343i's lie of having a ton of ex-Bungie staff turned out to be around 5 guys from Bungie who turned out to be networking guys so know one really important from Bungie.
[sp]Last time I said this everyone went "What do you mean networking guys aren't important!?" even though we all know who I'm referring.[/sp]

Well you're already wrong since Frank O'Connor works at 343.

The ADS doesn't really affect the gameplay as much as I thought I would. There's less incentive to use it for the closer range weapons, which are the weapons that couldn't zoom in previous installments. Like, does anyone ADS with the weapons that couldn't zoom in 1-4?
That being said, that does beg the question as to why they were enabled in the first place. I must admit, some of it looks really fucking cool, like the needler.

If anything the smart scope (which isn't actually exactly how they phrased it would be the year previous) is mostly just an additional little bonus for all weapons. Usually games that have ADS tend to make their weapons useless in hip fire / spray, but Halo 5 just sort of has it 'there' for those who want to be a little more accurate without fucking up the weapon balance by making them wildly inaccurate without it.

What you call a lie is only speculation, the number was larger than 5. And the networking guy is more important than O'connor. What? They never even claimed to have a ton of bungie devs of staff. Some former staff even came on after the release of 4 and helped with MCC and 5.

Oh my bad I forgot about the guy who use to write the weekly updates.

Staff member at Bungie confirmed you could count them on one hand but it's been a few year so that could have changed.

They didnt include people who worked on past halo games and left Bungie pre destiny.

Yes.
Am I the only one disappointed by the lack of a Flood model? They couldve just not given it claws, or had it one hand guns like most human flood

A map that looks weathered and real? More Bungie-inspired content?
brb buying xbox one
[sp] Shame we probably won't see Goerge and Jun's armor, but it's understandable. Jun looked kinda eh with the ghilli suit and George's bulk wouldn't really fit with the gameplay. [/sp]
