I opened it and immediately became teary eyed after seeing the Halo 1 screen and hearing the music
The ODST menu gives me chills every time.
Halo 2 immediately causes my childhood to flash in my mind and I shed a few tears.

My disc still works and it's literally in a small, cluttered bookshelf that's right behind my chair. It's how I played Custom Edition for a bit last year, although I haven't seen much reason to reinstall and go back.

Ouch. I recently (yesterday) installed the demo version of CE because my laptop doesn't have a disk drive and I felt like playing it again. I actually own two copies of CE (soon to be three if I get MCC) because I lost the disk to my first copy. Take a look on eBay, you should be able to find a new copy for cheap.
Unfortunately the demo runs like garbage on Windows 10 (even in compatibility mode), I fear for the day when I can finally reinstall the full version of CE and 2.

Download Custom Edition, use CD key, problem solved.
You can download all the campaign maps for it anyway.
Got back into HCE something fierce these past few months. Even working on a .gbxmodel importer that'll work for blender users.

Eh honestly just play the originals. Halo CEA still has controller lag if I remember correctly for co-op.

Yes! MCC is a blast for coop, especially Halo 2 anniversary.

MCC is arguably best for offline play
I got it primarily for being able to play through the campaigns (and H2 anniversary) for co-op as well as SP and it was great for that.
All of the issues with MCC revolves around matchmaking on multiplayer. Partly due to low playerbase and partly due to still latent issues from launch with the matchmaking code.

Starting a game is a little wonky atm, i've only got into 2 matches so far. You earn REQ points quick though! You can get 80k to get those mythic req packs in no time.
