Would the detail Scott put onto his models somehow get lost had his games actually been rendered in 3D, instead of the faked style where things are overlayed and created as seperate sprites? Understandably this'd make handheld devices unable to play the "true 3D" games without cutting down on the LoD, mainly for tablets that have fixed specs.

Most likely yes, since having such a high amount of detail probably means these models would cause lag on many machines. With the way he does it right now, he can just pump the models full of details, he could model every little crevice exactly the way he wants it and not worry about needing to cut down for performance reasons.

My minor observations on this image:
Scott seems to have started posing some models, got sick of that, put them into premade poses and then eventually gave up and started leaving them in their reference pose. Fnaf1 foxy is in the reference pose and old bonnie is in his "standing in office pose"

Nightmare bonnie and chica both seem to use modified versions of springtrap's arms.
Nightmare bonnie has something weird going on with his chest.
Someone should request a higher res render of that image.
Look very closely at GF's eyes in the first game. You can see two white pin pricks in the black eye sockets.
Dang, Scott even included the two naked endoskeletons from the first two games.
