Talking about the first game again is really refreshing. I wish there was more to dig up in it.
For any future horror games, I do hope they learn one thing from FNAF1: having a unique creepy concept and compelling backstory, while good in itself (it certainly worked for the sequals!) is even more memorable when the latter actually has to be discovered. The later games kinda fed the plot to you, which is why they got 'solved' hours after release, but the first was a much tougher nut to crack.

there were just so many things that came together that made 1 super good, mostly in the audio design. hearing foxy humming to himself, the scare chords, the general atmosphere of the office, everything about it was so [I]good.[/I] It still had some semblance of depressing normality, which got progressively more lost as the series went on.
The original four and the toys I feel are the best designwise, just because they're not explicitly terrifying just to look at. They're... unsettling, and I feel the subtle horror is much better than anything right in your face.
Not to say the new games aren't good, or anything, they just aren't anywhere near the original.

It helps that via reading the details about 'the suits smell like reanimated corpses with blood and mucus,' and the subtle creepy factors like them knowing you're watching them combined with the clear lack of corpses inside them, made it feel like they could've been possessed or just simply very, very nasty animatronics. Like mangled people pretending to be fake machines and barely hiding their intentions rather than machines pretending to be people and hitting the uncanny. It's like [i]reverse[/i] uncanny and you're not quite sure if you're really seeing it.
After that you just got things like Toy Chica taking her beak off intentionally being creepy as she stares back at you through the cameras despite the fact that she has no ghost linked to her, the explicit 'boo got ya' hallucinations in 3, and literally horrorific-looking nightmares in 4 due to the context. It just got to intentional spooks and began getting weird when it makes it seem like Toy Bonnie rolls on into your office on a skateboard with this big ass grin on his face before he bellyflops you.

actually that was one of my favorite parts of 2, because it wasn't like "wow look at how fucked up this robot looks, wow all these wires everywhere" it was more along the lines of "look what one little detail being changed can do to make them look creepier."
also personally I don't think any of the animatronics were actually possessed, there were ghosts involved in the way they started to act but I think it's better when you think it's entirely of the character's own volition

i was going on the basis that laughter that doesn't have footsteps during or after it's audible means that nightmare's in the room, but that seems to not always be the case.
it's starting to agitate me. it's like it's not consistent at all and whether or not i beat the night relies solely on whether the game feels like it wants to fuck me or not (and so far it's chosen to fuck me every time)

Kinda looks to me like it might be either an "m" or the head of the crying child sprite. I sort of doubt that it's just an artifact since there's nothing like it anywhere else on the top, but who knows. No one ever figured out if the purple splotch on the Plushtrap teaser meant anything, did they?

For some reason I always see image links from the wikia as extraordinarily small thumbnails. I'm not sure if it's bad tags or the wikia itself causing that, but judging by the fact that it keeps happening for everyone, i'm going to assume the latter so that people actually visit the wiki despite its jumpscare bullshit.
