You know I just realized, that wasn't Chains in the ninja pack trailer, it was actually the new heister that we're getting.
Missed the point, I don't think that lots of DLCs is a bad thing, but OVK not fixing stuff is certanly not a good thing.
I think a lot of DLC is a bad thing. DLC is something that isn't inherently bad, but is handled very poorly in most cases. Most bad examples of DLC include: Season passes, which just plain shouldn't exist because you shouldn't be selling people on content that not only doesn't exist but they don't know what is. DLC flooding, with companies like Volition, Paradox, and Overkill, who make dozens of DLC and sell them to you, often with meager amounts of content for the price but it all adds up really fast both in how much it costs you and how much it should just be a part of the game in the first place, or sold as one whole expansion. Mongol Faces. Absent Content DLC (often flooding itself), games that take out content that is on the disc or should have existed in game but has been arbitrarily blocked or removed entirely and sold to you separately for an extra dollar. This is where you get your Sims DLC which is flooding in and of itself, as well as the Mass Effect stuff that was on disc DLC. Map packs and game modes and the like, usually in FPS games, which are largely inoffensive but at the same time usually don't seem to be very impressive at all, and come with their own issues like not being able to specifically play them unless the whole party has said DLC and matchmaking being a bitch about it with rotations and so on. Overkill does this but actually does it well where most don't because the maps are actually, y'know, good. Promo DLC, DLC that exists to promote something else, which I consider bad because it interferes with a game's ability to be an immersive tight experience separate from anything else - Imagine how Skyrim would feel with Mountain Dew armor. This manifests for the most part in things like product code DLC (red bull and Destiny), but Overkill takes part in cross-promos with other game devs (and unfortunately things that again have nothing to do with even video games like Alesso and Wick). This DLC is often meager content meant to get people to spend more money on one of the two products, rather than to get them to have fun, and the profits I assumed split between the two companies, who benefit more than the consumer usually does. In-game ad DLC, DLC made by the creator that is advertised in game in some manner and usually in conjunction with one of the above DLC types. The bright gold BUY THE GAGE NINJA PACK, the doors with big stop signs plastered on like in Mass Effect, and the assholes hanging around your camp in Dragon Age. These people, signs, text and icons are intrusively put in to advertise to you in the product that you already spent money on. It's like if you bought a pair of shoes that had a non-removable ad inside of it for the shoe company's special shoelaces, and only when you bought those shoelaces would you get a tool to remove it. This often shatters immersion and takes players out of the game entirely, reminding them that they are playing a video game and also need to peddle out some more money, please. A good example of a company that does NOT do this as far as I'm aware is Bethesda. Any of their RPGs are full games in and of themselves, fully complete tight experiences and very immersive, and at no point do they bother you about buying Dragonborn, or whatever. When you break this it shatter's the game's feel, makes the customer feel overwhelmed and like they're being obligated, like they don't have the content they should, and like all you care is money. Funbucks - In game currency used to buy shit in the game without feeling like you're spending real money on it (virtual coins for a virtual outfit rather than real money for a virtual outfit, mostly on mobile games, you know the works. And day 1 DLC - Used for a quick buck, almost always cheat items and meager on the content, usually really annoying and missing content DLC. Overkill uses DLC flooding, promo DLC, and in game ad DLC. Fortunately they don't use absent content DLC because for the most part content that should have existed already is given out for free, like the infamy masks. So what do I think is ideal instead? [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/54123195/My%20Beef/Collage.png[/t] These are just a few examples of really fantastic DLC, at least in their methods. And they have common themes. Most really good DLC tends to be a large expansion pack that adds huge amounts of content, something that feels added on and not like something that should have been there in the first place, something that feels like a miniature game in and of itself. It's not advertised to you in any way and only adds content that belongs in the game's world and themes. It's something you feel comfortable paying 15 bucks for or something like that. And it's not impossible for Overkill to do this. They can of course remove the ads any time in the game, and on top of that, even now they could combine their DLCs in to a few big expansion packs, something they already similarly tried although it's incompatible with their DLC a month method that they would have to replace. So what I'm saying is that ideally, instead of selling each DLC as 26 DLC that overwhelm anyone, build the content over time until it can be called an expansion and then release it for a reasonable price. You could take all DLC as it is now and then sell it as, I dunno, Payday 2: Crimespree edition, for 15-20 dollars as an upgrade to the base game, or just sell it as the base game, with potential discounts or just give it away to players who own some but not all of the content. Then, with all content unified under one expansion, add on to the game's content by building it in to a full blown expansion. This makes the content easier to swallow, cheaper, easier to sort and understand, and makes it feel like you get more bang for your buck. And, on top of that, future expansions could be built around themes and storyline as it would make sense for Payday instead of a million itty bitty dlc of the weeks like the Western pack that feel weird and like they add minor toys. So instead of a 'cowboy' theme, it stays to the Payday theme. Of course Overkill might not make as much money this way, or hell, maybe they'd make more, I can't say, but what I can say is that there has to be a point where you as a company need to decide something based on what's good for your content and what's good for your consumer base rather than what's good for your wallet. Companies that do this are revered. Companies that don't are...well, that's where you get your Konamis.
ew gross Bioshock Infinite also Jiro is my new favorite character. Rugged yakuza men with tragic backstories tickle my funny parts in every which way.
You guys always get so mad about the DLC you're mostly going to buy anyways It's kinda pathetic really, can't you just have fun instead of being pissy all the time
video of all of jiro's voice lines when I hope they're all in japanese.
You guys always get so mad about the DLC you're mostly going to buy anyways It's kinda pathetic really, can't you just have fun instead of being pissy all the time
"Why can't you just stop thinking and being critical and buy DLC" Well while it's true I've got the vast majority of the DLC, now that I've changed my opinion on Overkill and Payday 2, I don't think I'll be getting anything they make from now on without significant improvement. I don't have the Ninja Pack, I don't want it, and I don't want Jiro. I agree that it's pretty pathetic for people to talk shit on Overkill while buying their stuff or rabidly trying to get the E3 masks that they criticize for being exclusive. I'm not doing that shit anymore.
Edited.
As a refresher, what was suppose to be in the base game but never came out? Safehouse customization is the obvious big one I remember, but I don't remember the others.
As a refresher, what was suppose to be in the base game but never came out? Safehouse customization is the obvious big one I remember, but I don't remember the others.
That's the only thing. That's literally the only thing.
As a refresher, what was suppose to be in the base game but never came out? Safehouse customization is the obvious big one I remember, but I don't remember the others.
Safehouse customization was a big one, cloakers too, though that's been added back in obviously. Little hard for me to say without delving in to the patch notes and shit because I started playing Payday like last fall, not when it was released. But now we've got a laundry list of promises Overkill's still gotta get to. Voice update, FBI files, safehouse customization, so on. Surprisingly, some people consider it a bad practice to sell things while also not giving them things they already paid or worked for.
Okay I'm fucking bored and feeling generous, so contest time!!! Your task is to use Goonmods weapon customizer and make the prettiest/ugliest/funniest etc skin you can with the customizer, the person's skin I like the most will any DLC of their choice. Don't post the weapons in this thread, PM me them cus I dont wanna shit up the thread good luck EDIT: Forgot to mention, draw date is 5 days from now (21st)

Hey, sorry to break up the rage here, but I have a question direct for Coyotez: can you confirm or deny that the Uzi Jiro comes with is going to be a Japanese Minebea M9? I want to know now if it's not because I'll get started on putting together a model of it to replace the one we do get if it isn't.
But you still don't have sound.
Actually that picture's months old :v: it shows with how dear god I was using the standard fov, i don't know how i did that also when i was using hox instead of poco+restoration
Gee no wonder this community is toxic
You guys always get so mad about the DLC you're mostly going to buy anyways It's kinda pathetic really, can't you just have fun instead of being pissy all the time
Some of us don't like this horrible business model and have genuinely been put off buying DLC though. Besides a few tidbits on sale I haven't bought anything since before The Diamond because they're not worth it any more. Overkill needs to slow down and make more quality DLC like Hotline Miami and Big Bank.
I think there's genuine reason to talk about Overkill's practices and shit and I'm glad anyone's talking about it because no matter which way it goes it's worth pointing out and having some kind of conversation I'd like some back and forth but I guess the best argument is to just spam funnies because that makes you like super ironic and cool (and then rate this post funny because even topper level keks aren't I just so salty)
I seriously despise the people that just come in here sucking Overkill's collective dick. It's alright buddies, they're not watching over this thread and I doubt they'd give two shits if they did, so you can stop with the façade. On another hand, what the fuck is up with the Alesso heist? You have to move 15+ bags vertically over several levels. It took me 56 full minutes to coordinate a pubsquad to actually do it and by the end of it you barely get a reward. I think you should atleast get more exp than Hobopro if you secure all the bags.
Some of us don't like this horrible business model and have genuinely been put off buying DLC though.
I bailed from this game entirely because of their business model around the Overkill pack or so (and I was already salty leading up to that point.) It was fun at it's core, but the perpetual $5 (and then more) DLC avalanche refused to stop while major gameplay issues both in balance and bug-wise went majorly ignored. I came back now and then when the DLC went on sale, but honestly it's disgusting that a company can shovel out moderate-to-low effort packs for $5 that might even alter the meta, and that people just hoover it up. It's one thing when it's cosmetics or big bundle additions that are more akin to expansion packs (Borderlands) It's another thing when a game's on it's last legs and they're going for a final squeezin (Killing Floor) And it's a bad thing when there's very predictable, repetitive cashgrab pushed at the forefront instead of fixes or free content. But it looks like Mister Sandman's been covering this mostly. I don't even want to get started on how low-grabbing their model of "hey join our steam community for all these in-game items!!" is. The actual user count for that stuff would likely be 1/10th of what it is now, or less, without that. It's just really sad that you borderline need to snort DLC to get the actual Payday 2 experience, especially when you look at it's barren initial launch that they thought was acceptable. [sp]Cough cough Killing Floor 2 with EA excuses and a dry four months, cough.[/sp]
The Alesso Heist is actually rather fun, and can be done relatively quickly. If you have one crew member stationed in the basement while the pyrotechnics show is going on, the cutters can be finished around the 16 minute mark. Moving everything up with the zipline, and a total of 3 crew members can have the heist be a 25 minute affair. Relatively short, in my opinion.

Because that is what you have to do. Then use the zip-line to move the bags close to the big crate. The only moment I enjoy this heist is when you open the chute with the bags and they start getting out one by one like a slot machine.
lifes too short to get this mad at video games [editline]21st August 2015[/editline] when are we getting this character
You know I just realized, that wasn't Chains in the ninja pack trailer, it was actually the new heister that we're getting.
holy shit guys did you know you could jump in this game?
lifes too short to get this mad at video games
That's why you keep a rotation of active games so you can sweet and salty at the same time. I get to be a vortex of emotions. [sp]Kinda hoping Payday 2 gets a nail in the coffin sooner or later so they can go out with a big sale/my friends and I would have a legitimate and financial reason to come back for awhile, because we all moved on to better games.[/sp] Speak of the devil, all the shit is on sale again. I still kinda want to wait until they unfuck some of the actual stuff that got me to leave, like totally broken Stealth AI, turrets, cop melee damage, etc.
We've had the same exact argument over and over again and I'm not particularly interested in having it again so I abstain. It goes round and round each time and nothing productive is accomplished. You all know my stance, I don't feel like repeating myself this time.
when are we getting this character
August 27th, iirc.
As long as heists remain free to play as long as someone who owns the DLC is hosting, I couldn't give a shit.
I wonder if whenever we shit on overkill coyote turns out to a window with a tear in his eye and wonders where it all went so wrong [sp]jk we <3 you very much[/sp]
