It seems like they've gotten super fucking out of touch by the fact that they even thought this was a good idea
hey guys, you all loved the bows right? What do you mean 'No, that was the worst fucking part of the Western Pack'? Sure you loved it, now how about the melee weapons! Everyone loves those! Here, have a whole bunch ported from another game that we're selling to you so we can ~split the profits!~
Sorry I rag on, if I seem bitter it's because I am, Overkill are becoming a bunch of corporate whores these days in my eyes, whatever passion and creativity that went in to the games seems to have died and the hole in their hearts has been filled with DLC
maybe it's time I post about it on the Steam forums like I thought about a while back, where would be a good place to air out all my problems with PD2 and Overkill on there?

I've pretty much supported OVK from the start with PD2, buying all the dlcs and never really complaining, but recently it really is just becoming shit with all these gimmick packs that I buy, use once than never see any use out of with the exception of some items.
They just need to sit down and fix the problems with the game and maybe just talk to the community a bit more to see where they could improve.
Yeah I don't have an extra five bucks so I'll wait on this pack if I get it at all
Chivalry is a shitty game, literally no reason to play anything that isn't Vangaurd unless you play as an Archer
I kinda wish I could get this pack for free because I own Chivalry but then again this is Overkill (and besides I shouldn't expect much anyhow because this is not the first time we have had to pay for cross-promotional content)
hopefully we get a heist with this pack but I won't expect too much honestly, might pick it up for a laugh when it's on sale
See, I can help myself from complaining about the incredibly dense and overwhelming negativity surrounding this game to complain about shitty things about this game myself

I have a lot on my plate right now in real life so I'm probably not going to be buying this as well.
I will say that the possibility of interesting melee shit is a real one especially because the Katana just happened, though. So I'm kinda looking forward to it.
I have no problem with this being a crossover, the only real problem with the dlc for me is that the weapons are a bit too gimmicky, especially when I already have basically the same thing from the Western pack with the bow or the handheld crossbow from the Ninja pack, which I don't even use either because I'd rather use a rifle/pistol/smg.
This is gonna have to be on sale for me to pick it up.

Of all the DLC's they release to make their monthly profit, this seems like the one that required the least amount of time and effort.

For some reason, when they reveal the masks for tomorrow I expect them to be the helmets just ripped from Chivalry.

The Hotline Miami DLC included one of the best heists in the game, plus 3 awesome SMGs, and four pretty decent masks (plus another four you got for owning HM). It more or less made sense thematically and obviously had a ton of work put into it. Not to mention how much people wanted that crossover.
This is yet more trash melee weapons and gimmick ranged weapons that nobody will ever use. Not only that, the models are ported from Chivalry with what looks like seriously poor execution. This is a definite sale buy for me, and I usually can't help but buy into everything as it comes out.
I know you weren't really comparing the two, but you got me thinking about it, and it's really made this gage pack seem like the laziest cash grab ever.
Having said all that, we've only seen a trailer, so maybe this will come with a heist to steal them (The Diamond redone with weapon cases, just to make buying The Diamond heist that much worse), 8 excellent masks (probably 4 helmets with 4 extra for chivalry owners), and a complete melee overhaul, where you actually equip your melee, and have alternate swings/stabs.

you guys are like this is shitty and lazy and looks like a bad port job I'll just get it on sale
why get it in the first place? If it sucks and you know you're not going to use any of it just don't buy it
Saving my review until after it's out.

The content is probably not going to be worth the price it's going for now, but sale price is usually pennies. Even if the weapons are only good for a joke, the masks and patterns could make up for it.
I probably seem more bitter than I actually am about this, the trailer just left me a little disappointed is all.

Good old broken necks. Also you use magic and the spear spawns in front of you, nothing new.
Late reply, but that whole broken neck thing happened due to Update #22, specifically this change:
Added a feature where the killing bullet when the enemy turns into a ragdoll gets extra power, making it look more sweet
For whatever reason the head doesn't like that extra force and tends to spaz out for a split second. I really don't know why they haven't fixed it yet.

I feel like seeming a lot more bitter than one actually is about things is a kinda common phenomenon around these parts
I mean I get that this is pretty shitty DLC practice but whenever new DLC is announced this thread seems pretty (and quite rightfully I should add) antagonistic towards it
It's getting really old in general and it kinda sucks because really until some of the free stuff we were promised earlier gets released we 've really got nothing else to talk about except the next five-to-seven dollar yellowed stain on the mattress Overkill has scraped up
DLC makes me sad
I hope Crimefest isn't bad
Let's forget about all this DLCs stuff and remember the good things that the first Crimefest gave to use. New scary clown masks that was needed. Introduction to Perk Decks (And eventually, super easy mode), some skills changes, most of them good. Free weapons along with old Hoxton and with his now grumpy attitude. Also his breakout heist which is one of the best heists in the game and the Fugitive skill tree. We also got John Wick and the Art Gallery but I can't say much about it.
Hopefully, this new Crimefest will be good or better as the first one.
I kinda want them to cut it out with the ancient ass stuff and throw in some more modern stuff. Maybe some new self-made futuristic weapon designs.
No pun intended, but this shit honestly gets kinda old after a while.
Edit: Not to mention it's like the gimmickiest stuff. Atleast more normal weapon packs have a chance of featuring one gun good or two.
Gage Advanced Pack when?

Let's just hope we don't get another SWAT Van akin to the Hype Train event.

Turns out they pull of a Hypetrain 2.0, so we gotta raise the crime up by fueling it with our cash.
God I wish those terrible bonus clown masks were more in line with the regular ones, I would love another set of similar but character unrelated clown masks
I think Blackhearted, Big Lips, Rage and Firestarter look pretty cool!
But yeah we need more goddamn Clown masks. And there's like a lot more clown masks designs they could go for.
I'm pretty sure they could come up with more appealing stuff.
I wonder if the four masks that are gonna be released with the pack are the ones that chivalry is gonna get, because if they are, thats pretty friggen dumb.
That's actually one of my biggest disappointments about the masks, and has always been. I love the concept of these masked clown criminals like even more than most Payday fans and I always want more clown masks, but Overkill never seemed to be interested in that. If you had asked me what my first thought about the concept of this huge selection of masks would be before I started the game, I reckon I would have told you that there would be a large variety of clown masks, and crime movie related masks. I would expect a Dark Knight crossover with the clown masks from their bank robbery, and lots of heist movie related masks. I would expect there to be jesters, sad clowns, happy clowns, angry clowns, clowns abounds, and in the patterns I would reckon there'd be lots of clown and crime based patterns, different clown makeups that would fit on the masks that you could use. I wouldn't expect a mask that's a bizarre semi-reference to IHNMAIMS, or monkey masks, or a fuckin' Elvis pompadour. I also would have expected a variety of suits and outfits to wear, many of them references to famous games and movies, as you expand your wardrobe and with the safehouse customization, have some kind of ultra pad that let's you portray a little bit of the extravagant lifestyle these guys should be leading. And maybe, as DLC or some shit, you could create your very own clown mask, with your very own imported patterns.
Basically what I'm trying to say is that Payday doesn't stick much to the theme of the game. To go on another tangent, clowns performing heists is the overall thing here right? But we take out cartels and fuck with politics and do extortion and all this shit that has nothing to do with robbery, and most DLC that comes out has nothing to do with anything. If you had asked me what DLC I would expect for this game, I would tell you more bank robberies, casino robberies, jewelry stores, art galleries, artifacts, contracts inspired by y'know, heist movies. And while it's true that one of each of those is in the game, it's usually, well, one. I'd never say we'd be stealing a fuckin' nuke. With weapons I'd tell you we'd be using assault rifles, pistols, SMGs, and shotguns, maybe a sniper. I wouldn't say grenades, LMGs, molotov cocktails, a fucking bow and arrow, another bow and arrow, swords, flamethrowers, rocket launchers, massive body armor, crossbows, 1900s weapons, 1800s weapons, and all kinds of gimmicky bullshit.
What is Payday about anymore? Professional clowns robbing shit, or mercenaries with dumbass weapons going on Saint's Row level destruction for cartoon characters? Because the answer is mercenaries with dumbass weapons going on Saint's Row level destruction for cartoon characters.
I hope it's not just some diamond heist remake. As much fun as I had with that (due to ridiculous amount of cops which can be gunned down quite fine) I'd really want something that's focussing more on stealing shit like Shadow Raid or meltdown. Lots of different stuff to steal. Hell, they can go even international and rob shit all around the world.

The Payday franchise pretty much lost all artistic integrity (And arguably any respect for it's theme at all) after the second Hotline Miami crossover and the era themed weapon packs imo.
I mean in general comparing PDTH to PD2 you've already seen it posted in this thread a thousand times I'm sure, but the first game had much more respect for maintaining it's professional criminal atmosphere than Payday 2. It went from being The Dark Knight to The Avengers.
But of course this is just my opinion, and I don't really have any solid evidence to defend my arguments atm, only the hundreds of hours I poured into playing and modding both games.
i care about payday's artstyle shift as much as i care about tf2's artstyle shift
make of that what you will
i care about payday's artstyle shift as much as i care about tf2's artstyle shift

I think that the art style shift is more important in the case of Payday. Team Fortress 2 could always hold its own ground with just its gameplay. But Payday: The Heist would not have survived without the heist theme. Can I say that about Payday 2? I'm not sure, so far it has survived.
Am I the only one not liking the new heisters being dedicated too much to their nationality? I mean every new heister we get always has his/her country flag on his mask, this is kinda a lame move for a heister, putting your nationality flag on your mask while robbing a bank will only make cops realize your nationality and possibly invade your home there once you retire heisting, you're a criminal you're supposed to keep your identity hidden and your homeland a secret.

I'm going to have to disagree about the home invading part since I assume the police already knows their identity and former locations, as shown in John Wick's trailer.

A lot of these nationality characters don't have much more to them but their national identities. They're stereotypes sold to us embodied as characters. I feel like the character creation process now starts with national identity. You look at any of the original 5 heisters, they could have been from anywhere. Wolf's background would work if he was American, British, German, it really didn't matter. Chains could have been from pretty much any military on Earth and thus any country. Dallas could have been Japanese and had pretty much the same character and backstory. They wouldn't require much adaptation to be the same people. Bonnie starts from a point of 'Scottish' and I don't think she could really be any nationality besides Scottish because she is, in a word, Scottish. Dallas is a leader. Chains is a brute. Wolf is a psychopath. Houston is a straight-man. Clover's Irish.

I actually lied. I think I cared more about TF2's artstyle, it was always very stylized. Its art shift was much more jarring because it lost its tight focus. (Even then it was never a thing I ever took offense at, it was always just an "oh, that's a shame" thing more than a game ruiner.) I always found Payday's art style to be bland and uninspiring. I never thought it had any real art direction to begin with. Can't break what was never there.
