Exo Dynamics, the dominant conglomerate in the new field, has opened flights to daring citizens of Earth. Like the Yukon gold rush of old, waves of adventurers sign up to launch themselves into a new frontier, risking everything to seek their fortune in the far reaches of the galaxy. These are the Astroneers. As an Astroneer, you must find a way to dig out a life on one of a multitude of harsh new worlds. Blast through the terrain to uncover precious artifacts and materials you can use to fuel your quest to become a wealthy baron in the stars. Along the way, discover oddities, raise questions, and uncover mysteries. Perhaps not all is as it seems.
It's also on the Early Access already. Following it for a while now. Looks nice if they can fill it with actual stuff to do. Also while it technically is in Early Access it won't be available to buy before "Early 2016", you got me check the steam page again thinking that I missed some news.
I looked for a more recent thread but couldn't find one I'm sorry don't kill me This game's finally available in early access on steam and xbone, after long delays (which were caused by System Era getting more funding and changing some of their goals iirc?). I've played it for a few hours with a friend and it's lots of fun, but being early access there'll be some issues, the most prevalent of which is poor performance on host machines. Clients have it much easier since they don't do any of the simulation the game so heavily relies on. I'm surprised this game hasn't gotten more attention here, it certainly deserves it. Bought the game on X1. Pretty fun so far. I like how there's no grinding so collecting stuff and travelling around is just fun, not a chore. People are complaining about it because "it's too easy you do everything in few hours" but i've been travelling around planets and building bases since release and i'm far from being bored by it The tether bug is annoying though, specially because of how important tethers are
The planetary gameplay looks solid, but what about the space part? Apparently you can build a ship and go to other planets, but does the ship building have any complexity to it? If yes, can you build ones big enough to walk around in?

Doubt there will be a spaceship big enough to walk into, though, the space travel isn't really the focus of astroneer (you don't even control your ship when it takes off, you float in orbit and pick a nearby planet/moon inside your ship range) - it's more about exploring around with your friends to me
So far there's two spaxeahipa, lander and spaceship; former has two attachment points, enough for two single seats, latter has 6 or 8 and can also take storage, crane, and triple-seat modules. You can't walk around and are seated the entire time; atm travel is just click the takeoff button->exit orbit or choose local landing site->choose planet within range->choose landing site but they're planning on adding manual flight controls and more advanced spaceship everything. [editline]17th December 2016[/editline] I am the latemaster

You'll be able to control your ships in the future.
So, you can connect rovers/trucks to a large hub to connect them to the main grid and charge them did you know you can connect vehicles to eachother this game is amazing [editline]17th December 2016[/editline] and pretty as hek
This game is so incredibly beautiful, and yet it's so simple. I can't understand why it looks so good but damn it looks good. The first time you get to the moon and see your planet spinning by, crossing a storm in a radiated planet, running around in a complex of caves in an exotic planet, finding one of those huge crashed solar panels, things just work so well

Don't forget the Windows Store version has Xbox Play Anywhere support which means if you buy it on one you can play on both. And also Windows Store has a 1 hour trial you can download the game and give it a go before you make the plunge! (then just buy on Steam if that is your platform of choice) Link to the MS Store for the lazy; https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p/astroneer-game-preview/9nblggh43kzb
how exactly do the starting solar panels and wind turbines work? i put them on my base but as far as I can tell they aren't doing anything. they both have a red marker above them, and the turbine doesn't spin at all even during a storm. i'm not sure if they are working at all. i am assuming if they were working they'd power the base systems on their own
Solar panels acquire power during daylight. If your base is fully charged they don't do anything. There's some weird glitches with them, so if stuff isn't charging move it around. Put them in direct sunlight, preferably. As for wind turbines, I have no clue what you're meant to do with them.
Wind Turbines are awful, sometimes they work and sometimes they don't, they're broke as shit at the moment. Also I hope we don't have to wait too long before we get what's like in the OP, that looks cool.
According to someone on the Subreddit, automation in bases was cut due to bugs but is on standby for launch. Don't know if that's true or not. Base-building looks a lot better in trailers with independent, smaller pipes being used. Maybe that's coming soon?
the turbines are pretty random. sometimes they'll spin when there's no airflow and other times they won't spin during a storm, at least for me. they're about useless. not sure about the big one that you can make with the printer the game's got a lot of potential. it's about time more quality early access games show up. biggest drawback for me is performance. the tethers and caves both seem to completely destroy your resources
Ooh, been waiting for this for a while. I really shouldn't buy another early access sandbox game, but it does look rather nice.
everything that was revealed in images before the game are right now in the game. the sandworm creatures, the bone caves, the truck techs, they're all there, you just need to go to other planets and spend some time researching stuff there that's quite refreshing. everything they're promised and advertised is there, and things will only get better they dropped hints about a quest existing already but so far i couldnt pick it up

[editline]18th December 2016[/editline] Oh yeah a tip for anyone who doesn't know, if you need Aluminium and/or Copper but have a fair bit of Titanium, sell it, each piece of Titanium nets you 4 Laterite (Aluminium Ore) and Malachite (Copper Ore), making it 1 Titanium for 4 Aluminium or 4 Copper.
Is there even a use for Titanium right now besides making Oxygen Tanks?
Is it 20 bucks good though? Many reviews seem to mention it's kind of bare bones
Can you remove the crane and 3 seat from the larger vehicles? Id like to transport the crane to another planet.
Is it 20 bucks good though? Many reviews seem to mention it's kind of bare bones
Depends, if you don't mind spending the 20 bucks, yes. There's still a lot to do and discover, I'm 9.5 hours in and I still haven't found everything and been to all the planets in the system. I see the $20 price tag as support for SES to keep working on the game, as they seem genuinely invested in being transparent and having the community involved in making the game the best it can be. They even opened up their trello roadmap to the public. That being said though, there are still some instability issues for some systems and there are some odd UI, and collision bugs though none of them are game breaking just annoying. I don't know if the price will go up in the future but what's there is still enjoyable and if you are afraid you might have some performance or stability issues then I recommend giving it a month or so. Also, the music is pretty enjoyable for the games style.
9 hours in and only now I managed to make a base that looks cool without a single tether used whatsoever [t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/100600869080660464/40C1C3425FFE0C4204689BAA997C92D8A7FC2FCF/[/t] we moon ops now pictured: two levels of details loaded in, causing the first hub to be beneath the surface
I spent an hour playing the trial. Gave my thoughts to someone who was interested in game. I thought I would post my thoughts here as I cover the differences with Astroneer and No Mans Sky and i'm sure people would like to know. They are indeed very different games visually and gameplay wise outside of resource collection.
oxygen tanks are the greatest thing. i think filters replenish your oxygen if it runs low, but it's really hard to keep track of how many filters you have when you could just spend the titanium and have a backup oxygen tank. it's a little thing but it holds just as much air as your backpack so that's pretty nice it's easy to not use tethers so long as you drop beacons to landmark important finds/know how to use your compass. i only use tethers for underground caves since right now they completely kill performance

The planets are different, very different, and even if you max tech in your home planet, you will still find new stuff to build and research on other ones.

I stated that nms and astroneers are rather different games in gameplay and art style. You seem to have taken my comments rather personally. I even stated that my analysis was based on the one planet I had played on and that I couldn't say for sure how long it would take to research all currently existing tech on other planets. I like the game it is fun. I also had no performance issues whilst playing and am considering purchasing the game tomorrow. I would still say I made some fair comments.

The biggest choke in advancing far enough to have a spesship and do space exploration proper is exploring the planet you're on for artifacts. But with the visuals the game offers, I'm more than happy to spend my time trucking around while burning the flora for my fuel so that i can mine the planet off its natural resources
