[QUOTE=loopoo;48794569]Every time I try to play this game I just get hopelessly lost (with controls, with gameplay, everything really). Campaign completely kicks my ass cause I always end up getting killed cause enemies are really hard to spot for me.
Joined a Sandbox server today and there was a guy camping our forces held town and I spent 30 minutes trying to find him, dying multiple times in the process, before I ended up just quitting. Even if there hadn't been a camper shooting us (I couldn't even tell where the fuck he was shooting from, it was just *gun shot noise* then me running to cover and then dying, so I knew his general direction but that didn't help much), I wouldn't know what to even do in a sandbox server.
Any tips for a rookie? I really badly want to get into this game.[/QUOTE]
Here's a few things to consider:
Play the VR Training first and then move onto the Showcases. The VR Training is tailored towards Beginners of the series to get their feet wet.
It will show you the basics of the Game.
After that move onto the Showcases. These are designed to let you learn about different types of vehicles and situations in a controlled environment.
After that you can either try your hand at multiplayer or practice some more in the Editor. Trust me, the Editor is one of the most important places for learning new stuff or just general practice.
It lets you spawn Any Vehicle and Units alongside Buildings and such. That way you can try out any vehicle you want.
If you want to try out weapons or other gear, there's also the Virtual Arsenal under the Learn tab in the main menu. It lets you try out any kind of gear you want and also has various dummies in various situations for you to practice with your gear.
I'd personally advice against playing with mods (If you are the kind of person who wants to use mods) until you are comfortable with the mechanics and content of the base game. Mods like RHS and ACE alter the game in very drastic ways and it's important to know how the base game works before learning mods. This also lets you know which exact mechanic is from the base game and which one is from a mod.
However if you want to play with us, you'd have to get our modpack since we always play with mods. If you decide to do so, and want a crash course in how to know the basics of the most important mods (Mainly ACE and a bit of the RHS stuff), then you can either hop onto Teamspeak (IP in the OP) and ask someone, or alternative send me a PM / Add me on [URL=http://steamcommunity.com/id/0x00000000005/]Steam[/URL] and I can give you a crash course in the stuff you'd need to know.

The systems rhs adds are pretty much only tank fcs though
And we never use tanks (the armour system is different but that's not really something you learn)

aside from the shacktack guide thing for general tactics (most of which you wont need): stay in areas with cover. Taking cover behind hillcrests is great but going over onto the slope facing the enemies is bad, especially if there is no cover (also you may stick out against the slope almost as bad as while skylining). A lot of people tend to climb up barren slopes trying to look for enemies they can't see through foliage. It's not a vantage point, you don't get a "height advantage" or whatever, it just makes you easy to spot. Generally try to stay low unless you actually have cover at your vantage point.
also when you choose cover, also think about how you're going to get out of that cover. Rushing behind the only rock out in the open leaves you with no possibility of escape or relocation.
When you actually spot dudes, pop out to fire. shoot, take cover, relocate and repeat. Only just a couple of meters will make a difference, like moving to the other end of a wall or a rock you're using for cover. The AI will become more accurate the longer they can aim at you. The AI will prioritise, face and aim at your last known position giving you less reaction time if you pop out to shoot without relocating. Moving a bit will give you more time to return fire without getting shot. (Same stuff applies to human players). If you can flank the enemy then great, if their attention is drawn to your conceived position or towards your friendlies you get p much a free pass to take out whole squads quickly.
this is just a general guideline tho so if you can take every visible enemy out in one go or relocating isn't practical or necessary then don't bother.
edit: also play with fparma we take all comers.
Using Eden editor, it sometimes "locks up" my Keyboard controls to move camera and shit. Is there a solution other than pressing play missions and going back to editor?
And is there no way to place heavy guns on the map in the editor? Like putting up a .50 cal HMG at a location in the editor.

You'll want to grab one of the faction hmgs, they're in the static section, you can hold down alt to spawn it empty
[QUOTE=kaukassus;48793851]I actually did try VcomAI, but it really fucked with the framerate for me. didn't really notice anything different apart from the fact that AI doesen't listen to OPCOM's waypoints anymore (Heli Insertions were fucked for example)
[editline]30th September 2015[/editline]
The framedrop was especially noticeable when Flying.
I assume this has to do with the fact that Everytime the AI gets ached / Uncached, VcomAI has to initialize everything for every unit that gets uncached again, which can really hurt performance.[/QUOTE]
That sucks. Must be this latest release he's done. The pre-BIS-suppression version worked very well. Haven't tested the ALiVE support assets myself, but others in my group said about that with the current release. That's a real ballache. Oh well. If the bugs are ironed out and it can get to the stage it was at from the previous release, then it's really cowbell with ALiVE. It certainly did before.
[quote]#8 Converting Eden Missions for Stable Branch: post #8
Well, there's a hidden functionality our designers are sometimes using internally.
While in Eden, open debug console and execute the following code:
[] call BIS_fnc_3DENExportOldSQM;
It will copy old sqm mission file to clipboard. It's very simplified though - it exports only objects, and only some of their attributes (basically only position and direction). The function was created for exporting simple compositions, it in now way replaces full mission export.[/quote]
Actually stumbled upon that when exploring the new functions.
So wait is Eden on Stable now?
[QUOTE=venom;48796230]So wait is Eden on Stable now?[/QUOTE]
Nah, it's on dev but there's a command to export object compositions
Here's a guide on how to maintain two copies of the game on dev and stable branch, it's pretty handy despite the having to update.

It doesn't even work properly. Positions for bases I've made are retarded.
Also anyone else gatting this? [url]http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=25954[/url] :^))
I seem to be getting an error with RHS weapons that wont let me join some wasteland servers. Can I get some help?
the error is:
error creating weapon rhs_weap_m107 with scope=private

Arreeeee you on devbranch
Also I wouldn't be surprised if those servers were preventing you from playing because you had RHS mounted (unless it specifically mentions they have RHS)
I'm using WS Launcher.
Hmm, that's an issue on stable
Probably caused by 1.52
Dismount RHS for now, only way to stop the problem probably
B-But, I want to play wasteland with my friends.
uninstall rhs, throw it in the trashcan and burn it
you don't need rhs to play wasteland
if they can join with rhs, you should be able to join. make sure it's the same version of rhs, the game and

Spotting is a bit of an acquired skill, but usually the mistake I see people making all the time is to not use free look. I bound that key fairly early on to something easy like space. Being able to sit still, and look around without moving your entire body is important because it lets you observe without much chance of being seen.
If you choose a spot where you dont stick out amongst the background, you can observe that way with little chance of being seen. Once the enemy moves they are much easier to spot. If you are dealing with a sniper it might be worth it to somehow draw their fire on someone, and then listen carefully for the sound of them firing, you can get a direction that way.
Also using the micro stances will help you a lot, it also lets you just peek over things without getting shot.

Fixed it. Turned out, a bad install of Exile was doing it.
3D Tasks and Markers are cool, gotta figure out how to change the icons though.

Been going over the RHS Issue Tracker to see if they are working on Fixing their damage model.
[quote]We are ourselves right now implementing a new iteration of the system[/quote]
I hope that new system actually works.
i hope it's opt in
[QUOTE=Cuel;48800880]i hope it's opt in[/QUOTE]
Problem is, the system they use has a different setup of hitpoints on the actual vehicle ([url]https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Arma_3_Damage_Description[/url] < authored by the guy who created their damage model), so in order to get close to A3 results you'd need to both change the config and the vehicle hitpoints configuration
It would be probably possible to include alternate .p3ds to replace the existing ones in any compatibility file (compatibility? why am I even saying this?) but they're boneheads who believe tanks like a Leopard 2SG or Merkava IV cannot ever face up against a T-90
You could always suggest it though, it'd be nice to actually have this
TBH I like the Default Arma Damage System a lot better than the RHS one.
Mainly because if I fire an RPG Rocket, I'm 100% sure that if it hits, it atleast does something.
With the RHS Damage model, even with just using RHS content, I don't even know if the round I'm using does actually do any damage. Sure it's more realistic, but I don't wanna open Wikipedia every time I want to see if that particular round could actually penetrate / do damage to the vehicle I want to engage.
i just don't want to break an entire mission becuase someone had an incompatible launcher.
[QUOTE=Mallow234;48801019]-- but they're boneheads who believe tanks like a Leopard 2SG or Merkava IV cannot ever face up against a T-90[/QUOTE]
but that's true? T90 is like a block of butter going against hot knives with that opposition
[QUOTE=Cuel;48800880]i hope it's opt in[/QUOTE]
I don't think they'll put in that to be honest.
