Is chernarus wasteland any fun? Couple of my friends have gotten bored of regular wasteland and exile and we need something to play in the downtime of op's

New map and maybe some new scripts won't do anything to make wasteland any less boring as shit

Honestly I love arma but I don't touch it at all between ops, except to make missions for ops
There are thousands of other games far better to play in between ops than more arma
all those popular public "gamemodes" are complete dogshit
PvP with 3rd person free look cameras is almost the most retarded thing ever, yet the community is absolutely dependent on it now. Dayz mod having that because of the default server setup when it launched really has been a curse on the extended arma community.
After upgrading from a Core i3 to a Core i5, I gained not a single frame in ARMA 3, even after fairly extensive settings and startup parameter tweaking.
Great job, Bohemia.

Yes, we've known about this for years.
And yes, we have the exact same discussion about performance like every month and every time it's the same thing.
When I upgraded my CPU I got a solid FPS boost, but it won't work if your GPU is an aging hamster.
Compared to my shitty amd processor (like really bad) I appreciate getting more than 75 frames normally in Arma 3.
As far as I've seen, overclocking is your best bet to increase Arma performance, even then the server will fuck you sometimes.

The server won't do anything. It's the amount of players.
Going from an i5 with a HD 7970 to a i7 OC'ed to 4.6 with two 780's, the performance increase was so pathetic that I just have no hope for the game. Multiplayer is a shame when most people have to make it look like operation flashpoint for respectable frames.
I went from an i7-960 -> i7-4770k
and Nvidia GTX 480 -> Nvidia GTX-780
And I had an increase in ~30 FPS for the most part.
Before that, I'd usually sit at 25 - 30 max frames on an empty stratis.
It's thread period time!
Let the blood leak as we rip on poor performance once more!
No disrespect but damn it's old fam.
[QUOTE=Dr.Fragg;48816166]two 780's[/QUOTE]
You could Quad SLI with Titan X's and literally get the same performance with a single Titan X.
Mainly since the GPU is not the bottleneck unless you run a ~5 year old GPU.
I have few questions about DX12 and Tanoa.
Will Tanoa will be available to play as a pre-release in the beta branch ?
Will the DX12 patch will really fix the horrible-cancer-thing performance in multiplayer ? (I mean come on, it's not even using 30% of the cpu/gpu)
Will DX12 patch be released before of after Tanoa ?
(I mean, come on, the game is using 40% of my gpu and 30% of my cpu and i'm stuck at 30fps in multiplayer)
If you bought it, probably. That's how it was with the previous DLCs.
No, I really doubt it.
Don't know.

- Probably, that'd be consistent with previous DLC.
- Short answer:a little, MAYBE (better answer: MP performance is heavily tied to server performance, and that can get strung out REALLY quickly with badly scripted or planned out missions or game modes. If you're getting more frames in SP, then DX12 probably ain't gonna do dick for you). It will, however, make water look pretty.
- Probably

Tanoa will be a separate DLC like the previous ones.
And there's no crime in hoping.

1. Probably. Who knows. Maybe They want a lot of people to test the map out in dev branch, even for those who didn't buy it in order to discover problems more early.
2. No. DX12 is no black magic that automatically makes your game run faster. It puts a lot of mechanisms out of the Driver layer and more into the application layer. This means more "potential" control for the Dev to optimize things. But the Dev has to actually make use of it, and I'm betting my money on it that the initial Arma DX12 will be a 1:1 conversion of DX11 to DX12, which has no real performance improvements. They will probably slowly add optimizations here and there down the road tho. Thing is that BI has to acquire knowledge about DX12 optimizations first too.
Also Server FPS issue is not GPU or rendering related. Betting my money of the fact that a lot of data needs to be synchronized between every client and the server, which puts a lot of strain on the Connection and for the CPU to be processed (of each Client). And for example stuff that needs to be in-sync on every frame can be an issue with Terrible connections, Slow Server/Clients and a lot of Clients. Ontop there's also the mission, which in a lot of cases is terribly programmed (Invade and Annex for exmaple).
3. Maybe.
I'm just hoping BI allows more emphasis on GPU rendering on the big Tanoa update.
added a few rifleman slots since all slots are taken
Understood, thanks.

Whats wrong with RHS? Personally I cannot play without it because A3's vanilla setting is very disgusting and unwanted, what did they do for money?

it was the make arma not war competition
BI offered modders a bunch of cash prizes to make the "best" mods (read: most popular) and in RHS's defense, they worked really fucking hard to make the [del]best[/del] most popular mod, instead of just the [del]most popular[/del] best one
[editline]3rd October 2015[/editline]
RHS has a bunch of [del]stupid and redundant[/del] really fucking awesome features that make it incompatible with THE FUCKING BASE GAME, as well as a bunch of other mods.
in RHS's mind, its RHS and only RHS or nothing
[editline]3rd October 2015[/editline]
i mean, all of this is fine and dandy if all you want to do is US vs. Russia a hundred billion times, but it really fucks with mission makers such as myself and the others here, take my old IDF mission for example.
you may hate the vanilla setting, but the vanilla blufor armor is perfect for the IDF. but since RHS isn't compliant, then you've got your Hamas rebels using RHS RPG's against vanilla armor, and they might as well be throwing rocks at them because they do 0 fucking damage
[editline]3rd October 2015[/editline]
nevermind the fact that the US has literally never fought Russia in the time period that RHS represents
[editline]3rd October 2015[/editline]
afaik

pretty much the only thing I don't like about RHS is some aspects of the FCS, I'll be using it until my dreams of ACE implementing their own factions happens or something better is released. there's an insurgents faction in RHS also im pretty sure (not very jihadi looking though which is a disappointment)
Also i highly recommend LAxemanns's DynaSound Sonic Crack mod, It replaces the god awful stock 'supressor fire' sonic cracks with nicer sounding ones.
So I have been watching some frankie playing DayZ Exile, and I saw one of the features, and I am wondering if that stuff is actually possible in arma 3 or if its some stuff made specifically for his video? It looks fine in the video but its almost too good to be true.
[video=youtube;KRCnkxmyjBc]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRCnkxmyjBc[/video]
At 9:40 you can see him placing objects on vehicles, it looks amazing and it lets you armor vehicles with just stuff lying around, and it lets you arm vehicles by placing mounted guns on them. As far as shit in survival games go thats one of the best mechanics I have seen, letting players pretty much make their own custom vehicles instead of having a bunch of different models. I imagine that storing an array of positions, angles, and model strings would take less space than a model and texture file.

that's pretty standard yeah, been a possibility with attachTo since forever.
you can make things like the battlebus, no problem.

Probably some script involving attachto
Also RHS would be the best mod out there if it had compatiblity with the base game, but it doesn't - and they have explicitly stated that their content will not support the ACE damage model, which is a dealbreaker for me in particular
Also they do release some content buggy and unfinished, like the RG-33 and the FMTV series
And whilst having a completely different driving model sounds like a noble and good idea in practise, there is a problem when your BMP series vehicles are so sensitive that the AI can't drive them in a straight line
This is why we want to replace it - any fparma replacement for RHS would likely start out with ports from arma 2 and other mods, but we'd upgrade it with custom models and new textures over time (we even have Toadie onboard)
[editline]4th October 2015[/editline]
Anyone have any thoughts on that? We could probably make the entire project available on github, that would boost the amount of people we could get working on the thing, and it's been pretty successful with FP uniforms so far
