I'd honestly much rather less features, DLC, and guns, and instead we would trade off getting a game that doesn't drop to fucking 20 frames when you're in shrubbery. I find it outrageous that my specs (i7 4790k 4.0Ghz base, 8GB DDR3 @ 669Mhz dual channel, GTX 760 @ 2GB VRAM) can barely run the game at a stable 30.
I have similar specs yet I get stable 30 at the lowest. I do have twice as much RAM though, but Arma is a 32 bit application so that shouldn't really matter..
Implying it's as easy as just starting to do it. Like BIS is just being lazy and not optimizing their stuff because they don't feel like it and would rather make kart DLC.
BIS is always working on the engine and I wouldn't even say it runs that bad generally, but high player counts and AI is just what slows it down. Not so sure why player count in itself is a factor and I'm sure everyone would like reworked AI, but it's of course not as easy as just wanting it. It's a lot of resources and a major change.
Networking shouldn't be so expensive on performance though, which indicates that something else must be wrong, or they're networking things that don't need to be networked.

That doesn't deny the fact that the engine is ridiculously shit at using resources (most load on a single core, to begin with).
No matter how great your hardware is, the engine sucks at using materials. And that is a big concern starting Arma 2.
My rig runs A3 at 60+fps on high-ultra pretty much all day every day, and my set-up isn't super top of the line
Even when playing with all y'all I'm getting 50 at the lowest

i could whip up a mission in 5 minutes that sends well over 30mb/s outgoing traffic, performance can vary much between missions
and that's just using scripts, you still have all the basic functionality like positions, your face direction, calculating trajectories etc

Something is very wrong then, there shouldn't be a reason for that much to be networked, I'm going to guess they're predicting quite literally every entity on the map if that's the case.

Hey, if this mission is on Sunday, could you please take me off Alpha Medic please. Will need to be working over night this Sun.
Sorryyy

I don't get how can peoples pilot Helicopters without TrackIR (Even worst if they pilot plane (AA, not CAS))

Flying with TrackIR IMO has good and bad sides.
For Flying unarmed Littlebirds, it's great, but when I have to handle Weapon systems, TrackIR can get in my way really fast. Accidental head turns can make your character look somewhere completely different while you are trying to focus on a target.
I also have multiple monitors with various informations on them that I use while playing (Range Cards for example), so when I check those out, my character looks away from the initial target and it takes some time to adjust again. I like the immersion it gives, but Also makes me loose focus when I look slightly anywhere else other than directly into the screen.
I love it when people make dumb little compounds with ACE bunkers

Sounds like you aren't used to TrackIR then, those were only problems I had in the first few weeks of using it
I got used to TrackIR really quickly and it has always helped me since regardless of the situation.
Been using the TrackIR or 2 years now, and I still can't completely get used to it, so I usually only enable it for certain occasions.

I guess trackir depends on the person, I've used it for two years and I can't play any game with trackir support without it, it just feels so damn natural and useful
Then again, I usually watch youtube videos or eat food while playing Arma in Singleplayer or generally when not in OP's, and this causes my dude to look everywhere except where I want him to aim to.
In OP's, I usually use my multiple monitors for certain helpers and references.
Maybe I just have too many monitors for it to work perfectly.

Did you find a "real" way to get a map on an external monitor ?
Did you find a "real" way to get a map on an external monitor ?
Live? No.
I usually take a screenshot in the briefing of the Region that is important and put it on one of the monitors. A Static map is still better than no map, and allows me to still glance at a map while doing other things.
The Closest thing possible for a live map is this addon:
http://www.athenamod.com/
But this requires setup on both The Server and your client.
What mission is that? is a Broma custom one or is it something from the workshop
Broma custom; My own mission, actually. :v: It ended up being super botched because a bunch of guys stayed in Montignac to patch two guys up while a counterattack was forcing us to pull out of town, leading to a drag-down that ended with a paratrooper team launching a rocket into the M113's side. I'll have to fine-tune the AI zones and enemy helicopters for the re-run of the op.
Also there was another Croguy in my team due to desync. Long story.

Arh .
I tried this mod, but when loading the map it just eat my CPU for mysterious reasons.
Thanks anyway.

When I get better FPS at benchmarks than during our ops there is something most probably not on my end.
Imagine if you had a VR headset and used a TrackIR. Arma would be pretty amazing if you were seeing it in 3d in addition to having head tracking.
When I get better FPS at benchmarks than during our ops there is something most probably not on my end.
SP and MP Performance Can vary greatly.
There's thousands of different factors that can influence performance.
Server OS
Server Specs
Server Ping
Server Upload Rate
Amount of Clients Connected
Specs of Clients Connected
Ping of every Client
Amount of Scripts running in the mission
Amount of Scripts / Eventhandlers running from Addons
Amount of AI Placed on the Map
Amount of Vehicles Placed on the Map
Amount of Objects Placed on the Map
Amount of Waypoints given to the units
How many objects have PhysX enabled?
Weather Settings
View Distance (Can vary greatly in missions, since Mission Maker can change those)
Polycount on Weapons every unit is carrying (IIRC Shacktac did run into this issue)
Accurate Profiling tools aimed at Server Owners and Developers would be a very nice way to allow to check what Causes the bottlenecks on Clients and Servers. There's such tools in certain versions of Arma, but going out of the way to get those is very bothersome.

Occulus rift does have Head Tracking 6DOF
TrackIR = Occulus rift without the screen (so 3d view) and without the neck ache.

EXTRA TWO SLOTS FOR VRDM
-This could be you!-
-This could be you!-
*May not be able to play. Slot is considered filled by Orwell0314.
**Cannot play on a BE-enabled server - left just incase we don't play on a BE-enabled server.
VRDM EXTRA INFO
Due to the nature of the mission and how the scripts work, you will need to download some extra mods and disable those which are already in the FPARMA but are not shared. Failure to do so will result in things happening that aren't nice, such as you having a gun that others do not have installed and so cannot see or hear.
The mods you will need are: CBA_A3, HLC Core, HLC AKs, HLC AR15s, HLC AUGs, HLC FALs, HLC AWC/Ms, HLC G3s, HLC M14s, HLC M60E4, HLC SAWS, BG Weapon Eventhandler Framework, Enhanced Movement, SMA3, Star Wars - Imperial Assault, TF47 Launchers, and the XM-25.
WARNING - DESPITE HLC WEAPONS BEING IN FP_0 YOU CANNOT JUST LEAVE FP_0 ENABLED - The mission pulls weapons from a local library, so it WILL LOAD OTHER MODS that some people won't have. Copy the HLC weapons contained in FP_0 into their own folder, enable that, and disable FP_0 prior to playing RWDM.
Optional mods: (i.e. you don't need them) Blastcore Phoenix, Blastcore Tracers (FoxFort Edit), ShackTac HUD elements
You may be asking: where? As long as they're still up, End Game will be played on an official server (so you WILL NEED TO DISABLE ALL MODS). Afterwards, we'll play RWDM most likely hosted by Ilwrath himself - which you'll need to turn mods on for. I suggest creating a preset in the launcher for this.
If you want to play RWDM you can still fill the two slots, and I'll most likely post on Saturday when we finish End Game and start RWDM. We'll probably play 2 rounds of End Game, maybe more if people are up for it. RWDM may last longer, I have no idea at the moment.
