In these last days I had to dedicate myself to the Thief "reboot" because it's my last Steam backlog fatigue

It's a somehow ok-ish stealth-based game with good locations but with a rather uninteresting story and characters and a terrible level design (the supposed main hub of the game gets it worst because it's divided into several zones with a loading screen for each and moving towards your next objective is confusing as hell)
If someone else did play this, can I skip the side jobs? I fucking hate to travel between thirty maps or so just to get some more coins I'm not going to spend anyway

You should just skip that entire game and play the original three Thief games if you want good stealth gameplay.

the worst thing about thief 2014 side jobs is that you have no way to redo them, so if you go and start doing side jobs without getting proper equipment to get certain rare loot, you can't go back and get it later on down the road when you finally get the equipment. it's kind of retarded. i have no idea how anyone managed to overlook such an obvious design flaw

Retarded? design flaw? Or is it making you want something unattainable with your skill set? I've never played it, but i seems pretty realistic from your description. If you want to be able to do something, you shouldn't just be able to do it because you want to and because it is a game. You should know how to do it because you learned how to do it.

I haven't played it either but it looks more like he means that there are certain things in side missions that you can only get with certain abilities, but you can't replay the side missions so if you go into one without knowing that you need a certain ability to get a certain piece of loot you're basically fucked and can never get it even after you [I]do[/I] unlock the ability you'd need.
you can buy "equipment" like razor sets and wrenches and shit from your fence so you can steal gold plates that are screwed in to walls or you can steal paintings and shit, but the menu is an obscure tab that you'd probably never even notice even if you did go to the fence that sells them. and the game never tells you where to find these tools/how to obtain them and the jobs never warn you that you don't have the proper equipment to 100% it, so you go in blind and you're completely fucked once you finish it and realized you missed a bunch of things/had to go without grabbing certain collectibles because you weren't properly equipped. and yeah, you have no way to go back once you complete the mission, so if you don't 100% it on your first run you're screwed
the way the game tells you that you're missing gear is by just shoving text in your face, and it makes you feel like you just obtain it by playing the main story. but you can actually just go to the fence right at the very beginning of the game and buy all of the gear to keep forever. except, again, the game not once tells you that the fence sells said gear until you [i]eventually[/i] see the hint in a loading screen when you're already 40% through the game

Thief was one of the worst games I had played in a long time and I did finish it.
The thing that amazes me about Thief (2014) is that I'm not buying any update or advanced tools (save for some exceptions) and I'm still waltzing through the game on Thief (normal) difficulty basically unscarred
I can't tell if that's me being skillfull or the game being ... bad at it?

haha. i enjoyed thief 2014 but i got bored by like the third or fourth main mission with some giant vault
you literally unlock all of your gear and everything right off of the bat (so long as you don't have the problem i talked about above) and there's no challenge to anything. it's a perfect example of a game that's just [i]too[/i] streamlined for the triple A market
it's literally a lite version of dishonored. it plays exactly the same minus all of the good features that dishonored has. i can't really call thief a "bad" game but it's definitely hugely lackluster in every way
I actually kind of liked Thief. It didn't run well when I first got it, but I've upgraded since then and it was fun to play at 60FPS.

Yeah it's not a great game but it's not really horrible either. It falls into that growing category of games now where it's not a bad game in and of itself, but it's bad at being a game in its respective series.
