I'm running the steam version, never had an issue with it.
Could always try the GOG version since old games on steam are rarely reliable.

Anything specific Lost Souls adds or is just a combo with better translations etc.
If it at least has the Zaton start it's immediately worth it.
It doesn't come with zaton start but it has shoker weapons mod merged with it and more lethal gunplay, and I think you can use the zaton start with it
I had to tweak the m_stalker.ltx to not have aimbot ai though
