S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series Megathread: "A Typical Day In The Zone"

I'm enjoying my CoC run.
I'm going for a record. 1500 mutie kills within 2 weeks and 1000 stalker kills. I have found the best level for the mutants, still searching for the best level for stalkers.

Transparency's a nice idea, but I don't think that level of it works with the Stalker UI. Right now the readability of UI elements varies wildly with what you're looking at. If I were you, I'd crank up the panel opacity and do something about the current condition bars.

Yeah it doesn't look too good to be honest but it does however look like it would prevent some unpleasant surprises. Many times I was out looting and boom I have a bloodsucker on my throat or a bandit that sprays 10 rounds into my chest.

What's the best level for mutants? So far the radar was quite plentiful but still a bit lacking. I think I came across the most hostile stalkers in the Red Forest which was at least two dozen military units and a bunch of hostile loners and mercenaries.

Red Forest is the best for mutants, by far. Spawns are insane there. I walked across it a few times and within ingame minutes I saw new controllers / pseudogiants / bloodcykas spawn.
One SPAS12 is all it needs, though.

Did you rush the Wish Granter to become a zombie?
Did you rush the Wish Granter to become a zombie?
No, I just liked the icon so I changed it lol. (you see the loner icon on the right).
Also, I'm firguring out how to enter pripyat without getting braindead. I've been to all levels, except for pripyat, hospital, CNPP, Radar and Generators in my loner-playthrough. Each time I spawned in pripyat or CNPP I'd get a "You Are Dead" message because i dont have the psi protection helmet

Yeah, this is the basic setup. I'm going to move things around and I was thinking of merging the slots / artefacts (visually, though. Removing the line in between and putting them closer together).
Also looking at the transparency, indeed. As it stands, it's extremely handy, when you're not doing ANYTHING else UI related, because they stack. So, because of the transparency, you'll see dialog / repair / trade boxes etc, which is unfortunate.

Haha I love my SPAS12. The Protecta seemed really cool at first but within a few bad mutant encounters I quickly switched to my SPAS because of the obscene reload times for the Protecta. Well it does sound cool but in the end whatever keeps me living is what I'll be using.
I haven't really ventured deep in to the Red Forest yet, I kept to my own around the edges just to use it as a quick route between the Army Warehouses and the northern territories like Jupiter and Zaton. I'll definitely go there to get mutant parts and some artifacts too. How are the anomaly zones there?

You need to go to Yantar to get the psi-helmet. I by chance went to visit the scientist there and saw the dialogue option to talk about it. I'm not sure if it's worth it to pay extra for the calibrations but I did so out of caution. I think the whole thing cost around ~20,000 ru.

Oh, I entered yantar from the wrong entrance each time. I thought it was radiated, too, lol.

I entered Yantar from the Wild Territory just like any usual playthrough, I could definitely see coming in from the X-16 side of the area being problematic :v:
In other news looks like I can't leave the Army Warehouses without having a CTD, no matter what location I choose. I'll reload an earlier save to see if that might help.

Whats the log say?
Also, dont upgrade your SVD with anything else than the automatic target scope. The other one is bugged, makes the game crash

The only things I upgraded so far was my AK-74 and SEVA suit. Not fully upgraded, just enough for a good improvement in each item.
Here's the error it's spitting out, which is the same each time I crash. I even tried loading earlier saves and I still get the same issue.
FATAL ERROR
[error]Expression : fatal error
[error]Function : CScriptEngine::lua_error
[error]File : ..\xrServerEntities\script_engine.cpp
[error]Line : 193
[error]Description : <no expression>
[error]Arguments : LUA error: ...call of chernobyl\gamedata\scripts\axr_companions.script:140: attempt to call method 'get_alife_storage' (a nil value)
Oddly enough companions never made me crash. I told them to bugger off (Such nice fellas too) and I still end up crashing anyway. :(

It's indeed related to the companions. I am bugged atm, too. I left my companion in wait mode in darkscape, but he didnt traverse to another level with me so I cant recruit new guys, because he doesnt spawn. Being in pripyat outskirts atm, it's kinda far away to go to darkscape :v:
I don't know how to help, sadly. Hope Alun pops in
I'll see if killing them off works. Unfortunately that might put me in hot water with my own faction but to keep playing I'll do whatever it takes until a more proper solution arises. Thanks for trying to help though :)
edit:
Killing does nothing unfortunately. I'll wait to see if Alun sees this then because this renders the game effectively unplayable. I'm certainly not disappointed though because this is an alpha and even with this it has been perfectly stable all the way through most of the maps.
Does 100% on electric shock/any resistance mean I'm fully immune to the anomalies?
Does 100% on electric shock/any resistance mean I'm fully immune to the anomalies?
Should do. If you can get over 100% for a damage type (in SoC) you can actually repair your suit by standing in an anomaly, though it'll take a while.
i remember you could combine the artifacts that reduce radiation (and increase bleed) with the ones that decrease bleed (and increase rad) and the rad reduction would be greater than the bleed increase (which i think you could even negate completely) so you ended up having free rad dispersal.
of course, that's ultimately not that useful when your liver can process a metric ton of vodka in a few minutes

you can, but it's generally a better bet to get -Rad -Stamina artifacts and -Electrical +Stamina artifacts. That way you're practically immune to rads, can sprint for ever, and electrical anomalies are generally easy to avoid.
i noticed that the attributes of my suit is degrading, i'm assuming it has to do with its condition?
and apparently there's no way to repair stuff without an overhaul mod... bummer

As I said, with enough of the right artifacts you can repair suits by standing in anomalies. It's easiest to do with Pellicles - Sakharov gives them out in exchange for Fireballs in a repeatable mission, and there's also a fixed spawn or two.
Really, though, in SoC, you get enough good suits for free that repair isn't really an issue. What suit are you using now?

The SEVA Suit. It's the best suit I've managed to find thus far. I'll try that repair method.

The SEVA suit is one of the game's best suits, but you can get an even better one from Sakarov in exchange for bringing him the Ghost Suit.

Sorry but the SEVA out fashions the SSP-99M by miles. Imagine, when the Zone inevitably claims your life, somebody might stumble across your corpse clad in disgusting spring green plastic.
The horror.
that's fine because if you wear the 99M you're scum anyway
real heroes are bright orange and take whatever the zone throws at them
The best thing about the standard 99 is that you can effectively evade an enemy by pretending you're just a really big sack of garbage.
The best thing about the standard 99 is that you can effectively evade an enemy by pretending you're just a really big sack of garbage.
In my experience, using NATO weapons greatly increases the standard 99's effectiveness at looking like giant piles of garbage. It really is superior to the 99M.

binbags best bags

You'll have to go over that 100% from the artifacts alone, though, if you go over 100% from artifacts and the suit's anomaly resistance and the artifacts themselves can't boost the resistance over 100%, it'll just hurt you and degrade your suit.

actually it's the best because when they take you away, they won't even need a bodybag! 'cause you'll have provided one yourself
how thoughtful of you, stalker
Talking about armor design
How come nobody, in a mod, came up with new armors other than re skins or weird stuff?
I mean, there's something like macgyver-ish behind all the suits except the high tech ones. Yet, the rest, seems like you cant innovate or create something different from them.
I know it's hard...I mean, after all, how could you create new helmets or armors?
They all cover all kind of styles and gameplay options (You got the shitty armor for the neutral guys and bad guys, the less than shitty armor, the standard armor, the shoot-out only armor, thethe anomaly only armor, and the mix of these both from shitty to super awesome, the exclusive suit (Clear sky in COP) etc) and adding in a new one would be redundant.
Somebody should try to expand on the differences of the suits. Having the upgrades was extremely refreshing, but they all in the end follow the same logic, adding or subtracting stats.
EDIT: Adding in pockets and slots like Jagged Alliance 1.13 is almost impossible for this game?
EDIT2: STALKER armor design is extremely good for a non futuristic, set in the 2010s, game.
