S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series Megathread: "A Typical Day In The Zone"

I came in expecting a barebones experience and got a lot more than I bargained for.
[editline]7th October 2015[/editline]
Which is a good thing, I'll add.
I wasn't really expecting much more than empty maps and SDK source files.
It doesn't have crap AI. Disable AI Die In Anomaly in gameplay tab of the options menu like the FAQ on Moddb suggests.
Not surprised casual players don't appreciate CoC for what it is. All those tools, OXR, debugging features, stable base on all the maps, etc. and all you guys see is a lack of content.
EDIT:
We would have liked to add more content but we already surpassed what we wanted to accomplish. We only worked on CoC when we had the drive to do it and that ambition is long gone now. You would be waiting longer for a release in either case. I know a few people who are using CoC as base, so you can expect good thing in the future.
I'm used to Soup and SGM 2.2 so playing CoC for the first time was probably the best STALKER experience I've had since I played the games at all. The alpha was incredibly stable and the release version is nowhere near short of my expectations. I'm having a lot of fun playing it and I can't wait to see what others will be able to do with the tools you have provided to the community. You and your team have provided an irreplaceable asset to our community and I sincerely thank you guys for putting so much hard work in to it. I haven't had this much fun in STALKER for years.

That was my impression as well, I was half expecting a completely broken experience, but everything works and I've had only two crashes in several hours of playing so it's just typical Xray fair. Plus the mods that are included (and the weapon mod that should be included but I understand why it isn't) add plenty of content that makes it feel pretty flushed for what it is. It plays like how I would expect a stalker MMO to play, just without any other human players.
It feels like with the weapons mods at least, what it lacks in hand placed loot it makes up for in what you can get from encounters.
Many times traveling to further levels I haven't been to before yields one or two completely new weapons I've never seen before that are better than my current ones.
But the problem is that other mods aren't being advertised at all. You can hardly find mention of any other mods outside of GSC, /sg/, and here.
[editline]7th October 2015[/editline]
I just can't see Vanilla+ making a difference as long as Complete is being shoved down people's throats.
Nothing's advertised consistently anyway, though. And the ones that are popular usually get a flavor of the month deal then go back to regular mod status like everything else. Half of them, maybe more than half are Russian mods you have to usually track down on your own unless they got popular enough to get put up on the repo or something. If someone really likes the series they'll go further and try out different stuff. If not, then it doesn't matter anyway, since it's not like you're playing with them.
So I started a new game as an Ecologist a few hours ago. I decided to go to the generators to study them or whatever it is I do.
With starting gear I set out on my quest. By the end of the trip I had a rocket launcher, sniper rifle, ak, tons of ammo, plenty of medkits, and a crazy bodycount.
The generators are fucking cool, you guys should check them out.
theres too many shitty mods and not enough GUNSLINGA
yes
gunslinger release date announced
Yeah, CoC still has certain problems. Crap AI and fullbright has been fixed but stashes are still empty, labs are also empty but pretty sure that's a feature for modders as opposed to something they forgot, I still wish they'd at least add stuff to labs and let modders mod over it I suppose.
I don't think I've ever seen any mods that drastically changed labs so I don't think it'd be a problem and I don't want to have to wait on someone to mod monsters in labs/undergrounds.
The lack of missions also seems to be a slight problem, from what I've seen and read, certain factions literally give you the same kind of mission over and over again.
It's a freeplay mod/to be used as a base for future mods, and its a good base at that.
So, how long until someone starts recreating SoC's story using CoC as a base?
(that'd be fucking awesome tbh, I'd love to see an updated SoC with the gameplay elements of CS/CoP)
Can't say I like the health/stamina but I like the idea behind the compass
This was WIP. They have a background, but like i discussed with TKPG, you cant call a new hud element without a script constantly calling it. I merged the background elememt into the map element for convenience. A cheap hack, but whatever.
Also, Vanilla+ is kind of low surface because I dont have the time atm to work on it, sadly. No need to hype mod thats not even nearing completion, yet.
And I think that my hyping skills are at least on par with Complete's (Considering I spend day amd night advertisimg MISERY / doing all PR and approaching sites such as RPS, PCGamer and moddb itself for features).

Davidme for the longest time wanted to make Strelok's Story and wanted to use CoC as the base.
I really liked the artifact transmutation from AMK and Oblivion Lost, along with dynamic anomalies. Throw these ontop of CoC weapons mods and I'll be happy.
I also really need to get Call of Pripyat.
So Im facing this problem now. Let me guess, CoPs rounded map is hardcoded because the devs are fucking retards?

Why are you taking pictures of your screen...?

god, dynamic anomalies would be wonderful

Well, I dont have internet on my development PC as I wanted to save as much rescources on it as possible, including AV. I usually drag and drop my shit through LAN on my gaming pc for upload but my dad is on it now and my laptop is still with my girl.
Anyway, anyone got any advise

Oh don't get me wrong, I meant no offense, I've been waiting for a real freeplay mod for a long time and CoC does that amazingly, I was just sharing things I wish would also be in there but that doesn't mean the mod is bad in any way. That's just the kind of thing people do with any game I think, even if the game is amazing we always have our own little thoughts about what more could be in it but that's an individual thing, I wasn't trying to speak for everyone and how CoC was lacking.
ive been using STCSWP off of this mega.nz

So I installed STCSWP and a buncha patches that were included, but my hand textures are fucked. The normal map is just a checkerboard type pattern and it looks bizarre as hell.
What do I do
Checkerboard?
Thats not the normals. Let me guess, checkerboard "shadow" pattern all over the 1st-p model?
Checkerboard?

No I'm pretty sure it's the normals. The pattern is affected by light and such just like a normal map. I mean unless it's some kinda parallax type thing
I can't take a screenshot at all for some reason, tried everything, so I'm stuck here trying to describe what it is.
It looks VERY similar to a missing normal map in the source engine.
Also it's only on the hands. Like the fleshy non-gloved hands. The texture is there from what I can see, the normals or whatever are just fucked

stop using dx9 or get a new suit
stop using dx9 or get a new suit
Yeah it was dx9. Coulda sworn I was using dx10.
Weird.
god, dynamic anomalies would be wonderful
Yeah, dynamic anomalies and the Dynamic News System are the two features from AMK I'd most love to see in CoC. Looks like the latter may show up soon.
I actually found the vastly improved AI one of the coolest features in the leak. Taking over the Cordon car park was much more of a challenge than, say, AMK.
I wonder how hard it'd be to backport some of the script improvements - the AI being the biggest - to SoC.
I loved Dynamic News System just because it made things feel a bit more alive, I just liked hearing random tid-bits from other stalkers.
I wonder how hard it'd be to backport some of the script improvements - the AI being the biggest - to SoC.
Yeah I second that, exactly how hard would this be?
Its not hard at all, but requires some time. Radium has it to a huge extend and it's very immersive. Especially so because we're creating our variant to how we'd like to see dynamic news.
And yeah, nothing's better than strolling through Military Warehouse in soc suddenly seeing duty and freedom throw punches at eachother through PDA chat.
Dynamic news has always been one of my favorite mod features, it's a shame it's not used more often. It's a simple thing, but it adds so much more immersion to the world.

Radium's running on the same OXR as CoC, so the scripts should be straightforward to port. But that OXR is based on CoP, seems to have new callbacks, additional callback arguments, and other tweaks that may make porting AI and other scripts to SoC difficult, even though so many cool mods would be improved by it. Would be good to know what alundaio thinks of both the difficulty of a port and any loss in functionality from the older engine.
Great to hear about Radium's new dynamic news system, love that feature. Someone's ported the Russian SGM DNS to CoC I thought and someone was going to translate that. So hopefully we'll have something soon in CoC.
I need help fixing unupgradable Monolith suit.
Checked in outfit.ltx and I can't tell if something is off.
I'm not sure if somebody posted a fix for this.
https://www.mediafire.com/?kiyilw2w8c5etio
The rar file adds a ltx file for the monolith suit to the outfit_upgrades folder.
If it still doesn't work, open your outfits.ltx file located in the misc folder and add the line: #include "outfit_upgrades\o_monolith_outfit_up.ltx"
Would OP be so kind as to put the CoC mega repo up there?
