lol but i'm not even insinuating that i'm entitled to anything
it's just that if you have a track record of abandoned projects perhaps its best to tone down a little with the scale, and maybe not beg people to vote for your mod that looks like itll meet the same fate as your previous work, because that just makes you look disingenuous, and also avoid making big promises altogether, and maybe not get all childishly defensive when someone comes along to tell you all of this
but what do i know, i haven't got a degree in modding so my opinion doesnt count
I suppose we have a simple difference of opinion there. I'm optimistic, so I'll give him another shot. It's an understandable, but pessimistic approach to assume that Wormwood will face the same fate as WotW. What you're missing is that WotW and Redux were both changed/nixed because they were getting too bloated. WotW was too hard to do and had too many problems IIRC, whereas Redux was turning into some surrogate for STALKER 2. It was realized that it wasn't what Redux's original intention was and a lot of stuff was sheared off the meat of the mod to keep it more true to the original concept.
Now, I do understand where you're coming from, though, and I can't really blame you for being skeptical at this point. Guess I'm just an optimist at heart and can't agree with that kind of viewpoint on a personal level.
i dont see how all this arguing will make gunslinger come out faster!!!!

Chill, bro. Have some irradiated potatoes.
I'm still waiting for the next OGSE. I want that delicious improved AI to cheeki my breeki.
I gotta admit you guys all do make some good points. We shouldn't be so defensive about the STALKER modding scene. It's a fact that many people were too ambitious with their goals and ended up abandoning their projects, however that's not something that is unique to just the STALKER modding scene. Plenty of projects for different games have gone down the shitter. Either because they were too ambitious, didn't have enough time anymore, or they simply wanted to do something else because they were tired of working on the same thing. That's not such a terrible thing. I feel bad because many resources that some of these developers have created never see the light of day. I like to think that scattered among the STALKER modding collective there is enough content to easily make another STALKER game, it's just that a lot of it is held privately or simply canned.
edit:
that's a dope avatar u got there green ;)
Speaking of mod projects forgotten or cancelled. What happened to that stalker mod for Crysis?
[editline]21st December 2015[/editline]
And the one for ARMA 2

Both got dead. Well, one got rebranded "NEJA7" or something
First off, I'll say I am not a modder so my opinion means jack shit....HOWEVER
I do understand modding is a labor of love. Gamers fall in love with different games, and want MORE of that insane feeling you get when a game "clicks" with your psyche and you feel completely immersed.
I have been gaming since 1986 when my Dad bought us a Tandy 1000 TL, and in all that time very few games have struck me the way STALKER did. Sure, there have been dozens of games I have enjoyed and liked, but only maybe 5 that blew me away.
I want more STALKER just like all of you, because of just how immersive, hostile and creepy it could be all at the same time.
Since the last official STALKER game we have received a lot of disappointments.
1.) The cancellation of STALKER 2
2.) A slew of mega-mods that once delivered were rather lackluster and failed to catch that original feeling
3.) The abomination that is Survarium
4.) The cancellation of various promising projects (LURK)
5.) Mod completion dates pushed back (Frozen Zone etc)
I guess I kind of understand what the poster above was saying, in that these huge mods never seem to come to fruition, and therefore maybe these teams shouldn't have such grandiose ideas. But then again, all it takes is one amazing mod to bring us all back to the time we first played STALKER and our yearning for more will be satisfied.
Again, I am not a modder but I do know enough about game engines to understand how hard it is to work with XRay. I think the LURK team had the right idea to be honest. They cancelled the mod they were making on XRay and decided to import all of their weapon assets etc. into Unreal Engine 4, since it is so much easier and faster to work with. Then again, we have heard nothing from them on that new project in over a year - but I remain hopeful.
Best of luck to all the mod teams - I have more faith in you than I do in GSC ever getting back to their glory days and delivering STALKER 2.

I mean, just assuming you're entirely 100% righter than anything ever was right . . . the absolute worst scenario is someone asking for meaningless votes for meaningless content. That's just kind of . . . . ok?
Getting offended over that comes across less as helpful advice, more as "BACK TO THE SALT MINES!" If it comes out we get something for nothing, if it doesn't we get nothing for nothing.
I'd hardly call Survarium an abomination its not even got the free roam mode in yet.
It's been pushed back so much its hard to say if it ever will

Nope - it's an abomination. By definition is doesn't resemble anything close to what they described when they were selling "founder packs".
Anyways, a while back I posted the first alpha video from "Escape from Tarkov"
Even though it will be online only it still looks very pretty and has my interest. Well, they posted a new video today detailing looting and some crafting.

I, for one, think it shows promise.

That looks pretty awesome, I love all the little animations for opening and looting stuff.
Yeah, and seems like I was (luckily) only partially right on the CW team working on this. They've divided the teams in parts. They're working on 2 other games, too. Seems like there's a new team for this game that isn't Absolut Soft (the makers of CW).
I'm starting to get more positive. I really hope this becomes something cool.
Sure the graphics might not be over the top for a 2016 title, but the animations and overal "feeling" do make up for that. It's really leaning towards an open-world metro / stalker hybrid. The level of detail is really great. One of the better presented alpha gameplays of open world games.
One thing I still is wonder if there's anyone other than players in it, some of the stuff they've shown makes it seem like there might be some AI dudes around too but they haven't really said much about how the game is structured.
Looks pretty rad, but what's the actual gameplay going to be like I wonder?
Looks pretty rad, but what's the actual gameplay going to be like I wonder?
That's what always comes to mind. I remember looking at the early footage of Survarium and being intrigued by how cool it all looked. Fast forward to now and it's a beautiful but garbage game.
Escape from Tarkov looks rad though but I'm not one to get my hopes up nowadays. The little looting animations and the gun modification system impress the hell out of me. I'll be sure to keep an eye on it because until now I didn't even know a game like this existed! I really hope it turns out good.
It looks pretty sweet but it's a shame that there isn't going to be a STALKER mod/lookalike that has these game mechanics.
Also a shame that it's online only, but I would try it out if it ends up being any good.
So is it online only in the fashion of like Day Z? where each server is just the map and you and other people are free to roam around?
you can make a game look as good as you want but the second you make it a completely open free for all like dayz you've already lost half of your customers
that era is long past. people want games where they can work together, not where they get gunned down from some shitlord they didn't see just to lose everything
I think it has solo play, though.
i'd imagine that they have some kind of system set up where there's co-op servers or something of the sort
i find it hard to believe that they'd spend all of this time making a game but still use such a terrible nuanced, unoriginal gameplay formula that clearly shows that it doesn't work as intended
I would hope they would have PvP servers where its a free for all like Day Z, then have PvE servers where the player count is much lower and maybe friendly fire is an option that can be turned off but theres more enemy NPCs. That would be the ideal solution.
Being like Day Z wouldn't really work. Day Z has more or less just devolved into kill everyone on sight. There's no incentive not to.
A good STALKER like online game needs incentive not to kill people and to work together, but shouldn't stop you from killing people. A reputation and faction system works well for that. Kill players often, have shit reputation and get poor prices. Be considered a bandit and have everyone shoot you on sight instead. Not killing players would give you less rewards, but you'd get good reputation for working together, while killing players gives some big rewards, but everyone hates and wants to murder you.
yeah, it'd work fine if there was just a faction system where the faction diplomacy is always changing so you have different allies/nemesis factions. that way it's not "red vs blue" but at the same time not a total free for all
Well judging by that gameplay trailer that was released a while back there seems to be at least three factions, so thats a step in the right direction.

Americans, Russians, and Raiders. It's basically a fancy, city-scale survival team deathmatch with resource scavenging.
Is that Cryengine?
Is that Cryengine?
Unity 5
(ugh, why does no-one making these amazing projects use UE4? :saddowns:)
