For any of you who has a physical copy of the game and would like an online DRM free version, GOG are handing out DRM free copies to those with legitimate CD keys from their boxed games.

Wonder what it was

Probably a MP sided patch because of the GameSpy shutdown.

But that update was made months ago wasn't it?
yeah that was a long time ago and was already patched
According to the dev, ManOwaR, on Steam discussions, it's a small patch to make Win8/10 compatibility a little bit better. The game also asks for higher privileges to get an access to proper registry hives and triggers DirectPlay loading, to initiate component install before the game starts.

Ask him wether the russian mob still wants to cut his thumbs off for stalker 2
Worked a bit on the UI, seems like the previous compass obstructed vision too much and came up with something cooler

A BIGGER compass! I also extended the ui_actor_hint_wind.dds with 1024 pixels, making it a grand total of 2048x1024 pixels without any coordinates getting screwed up.
Gonna test and see if I'll be able to do more regarding the UI, maybe a separate part for script related UI (Much like in SGM)
I think 'fondled' is the wrong word :v:
Lookin' good though!

What point? That a game from 2007 looks like a game from 2007?

Well it's funny compared to that recent open world first person shooter also centered around a radiated wasteland :v:

You mean Fallout 4? Cause that looks better than that screenshot.

It ain't the best picture that's for sure. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. looks pretty damn nice considering its age and budget.
It does, but it's mainly thanks to the lighting. The models are low poly, even for its time, and the textures are literally 1024^2 at best. The lighting really does make the games graphic-wise.

Most new games look like ass compared to what Clear Sky is capable of.

Really? I love STALKER as much as anyone here, but new games like Fallout 4 blow it out of the water most of the time.
X-Ray's issue is mostly the assets.
The renderer in the engine is truly great, extremely ahead of its time. The per-pixel deferred shading model used is just fucking Russian wizardry at its finest.
And it doesn't help that STALKER's character models look worse than HL2's and they've reused those awful characters models in all 3 games.
Most of STALKER's assets date back to 2003, so that makes sense.
If SoC was released when it was supposed to (2005-2006. Look up build 2232 and 2571, they're almost identical to what we got in March 2007, with the exception of Darkscape and Dead City and a handful of small things like the suicide scene in the bar) it probably would've blown our minds, graphically.
I blame THQ.
i say this everytime it comes up, if it didn't have an absurdly small fov by default, and some better textures, stalker's guns would look amazing and the game would look so much better.

And better animations, and better sounds, and the guns weren't weird two-sided abominations...
well Ao3 fixes most of those problems for me. i actually managed to finish the campaign like that
Gunslinger + AtmosFear + CoC will be quite a punch for lots of nowadays "next-gen" games.
Just need to wait a little bit.

I think we need an Absolute Nature 3 port to CoC too. The vegetation models in the STALKER games...aren't great.
