I was working on an UI and it hurts me because it's not real but it's so damned pretty.

A nice gaussian blur effect would be nice to have in the engine.
That kind of minimalist/modern style really does not fit in STALKER
It doesn't, but it looks really good! I'm not very concerned about STALKER's atmosphere anymore because I played the same maps and experienced the same experiences hundreds of times already. I would totally use an interface like that if it were available and compatible with CoC. It's super clean and elegant. Great job Loner!

I love trying out stuff though. I find the old UI to become really boring for some reason.
The only STALKER UI I never liked was the SoC one, it's awful. Before I got used to it I remember selling my primary/sidearm/armor at least once or twice since it just dumps everything into the trade screen.

I'm not really a fan of any of the UIs in any of the STALKER games. Not because they aren't functional or anything, they completely work and are totally legible and understandable. I just am kinda picky about UI graphics and tend to dislike heavily skeuomorphic graphics, skeuomorphic graphics being something STALKER does fairly consistently throughout all its UI elements. What, with how most of the UI elements are made to resemble dials, knobs, and other real-world things. It works in the style of game that STALKER is, I just have never been a fan of that sort of UI graphical style to begin with.
I'd love a minimalist UI in a similar style to that, Loner. I've actually been looking for something like it. Maybe if you could finish something resembling it in some way, I might use it! Doesn't have to be exactly the same thing, since I know that blur effect might not be doable, but if you could whip up something similarly minimalist I'd love to see.[/QUOTE]
I'm working on this. I've always been wondering why no one did something extreme to the UI, either. The only UI i was impressed with was the CoP adaption I worked on together with Kaidonni.
Thinking about this... I might use this hud as template and build from there. It looks similar to my design!
I won't promise much, but I'm going to work on it. Also, I am a firm believer of "streamlined", so I'll probably redo the whole UI in this style, since stalker has made us used to its HUD and UI elements because they're used everywhere in the same fashion. I can see it being out of place when you'd have a minimalistic in-game UI and HUD, but when pressing ESC, see the "old" mainmenu again or all other elements the game uses in the menus etc.
All the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games are best played without any HUD/UI/Cross-hairs at all in my opinion, unless you're still new to the game.
It bring another level of tension and immersion. I like checking my PDA on where to go next instead of looking at the minimap and having arrows point me in the right direction and having to check my inventory every now and again to see what I can toss/keep and how much ammo i've got.
Then again i've played SHoC God knows how many times, near enough know all the maps and quests like the back of my hand.
I wish there was a HUD that had literally nothing but a health bar. I don't need numbers anymore to know my current magazine capacity, minimap or stamina. Keeping track of them myself is more fun to me. Health is the one thing I've never seen a good way to quantify in games without visuals and bloody screen is annoying. That's p. much the only thing. I guess detection bar is useful but not the most necessary of things.

Huh. I had no idea that it was standalone now.
EDIT: They didn't release all the files yet it seems. The installer requests ..._Final_2_0-2.bin which is not up on ModDB.

Yeah, it's nice to see more big mods becoming standalone. Definitely makes it easier to get back in when I haven't played in awhile.
Looks like OGSE 0693 part 5 is finally available to download. Get downloading and wait for part 6 so that we can finally play this mod.

What are a few things that this version of OGSE improves? I remember playing a while back and some of the features interested me, but then there were other things like AI being able to shoot me in the head through walls that turned me off.

it's a huge engine overhaul first and foremost really
a lot of new/combined levels, complete AI and scripting overhaul, new weapons, etc.

I'm going to be streaming OGSE on my hitbox to untold lengths and get my first impressions, since I haven't done any proper streams in forever and a half. I'm probably going to get a couple of drinks in just to get into the mood. Right now the time is likely going to be 7/3/2016 @ 19:00 GMT
